Niova listened to Cody's question and shook her head slightly. "You guys go on ahead, I'll stay here. I'm not much of a racer.." she said, looking down at her hooves. She walked a little distance away and settled down under tree so she could watch; it sounded interesting. She tossed her mane over to one side then looked off into the distance for a few minutes before remembering where she was.

Cody nodded at the Esmerelda's enthusiasm and did a little kick with her. He bobbed his head at Prunia, encouraging her to join them. "Its okay if you two don't want to race," he said to Novia and Azaria, "I would probably beat you both anyway." he winked and shook his mane in a boastful manor. His nostrils flared in excitement as his skin twitched with anticipation.

Esmeralda laughed. "I don't know... I bet I could beat you." Esmeralda gave a cocky smile. She pawed twice at the ground hard. If she were a car, it would be like reving her engine. Her saphire eyes sparkled with excitment and she laughed again. "Whenever you guyz are ready!".

Cody laughed and smiled, his blue coat was starting to shine in the sun. "Then we will go to the heard and back." he put his head down and set his weight to his back legs. He snorted and looked over at the mares. "On the count of three.. One, Two... Three!" he launched himself off, setting into a hearty gallop. His powerful legs carried him very quickly through the grass. His jet black mane fell onto his face before he shook his head and it came uncaught from his antlers, and was soaring behind him. He could feel his heart beating mightily as his breath became louder and quicker. He closed his eyes for a faint moment which seemed to last forever. The wind blowing through his horns, causing a wonderful chill to envelope his body.

Niova watched everyone except Azaria take off into a sprint towards the herd. She twitched one of her ears then looked at the other mare that still shared her company. She looked like one who would be up for the challenge but she decided not to ask. Her head shook due to the flies that surrounded her and she got tired of it so she put her head down and closed her eyes.

Esmeralda snorted and launched her front legs in the air and pounced her back legs in one big leap. She caught up to Cody and simple said with a breathy voice, "I'm lighter than you.." When she said it out was almost like she was singing. She smiled slyly and pressed forward, running with him, head to head (hope i said it right XD).

"Sure, if it's alright with you," Pruina replied tentatively, hooves finally touching solid ground. She quickly emerged from the water, her long mane drenched and heavy; shaking the water from her mane, she was somewhat relieved of the weight of her mane and tail. It certainly wouldn't do to be running around with water weighing her down. Pruina flicked her ears in excitement, though she noticed that Novia and Azaria weren't joining them. She hesitated slightly, but if they didn't want to race, then she wouldn't try to persuade them. Instead, Pruina trotted up to Esmeralda and the male Kelpie, waiting for one of them to give the cue to begin. Pawing the ground with a black hoof, Pruina steadied herself and took off in a leisurely canter. There was no sense in trying to go as fast as she could at the beginning, considering that she figured that the other two Kelpies might begin to tire in the middle, allowing her to pass them.

She took off after the other two Kelpies, her pale mane rippling in the wind as she surged forward, darting between the trees and coming in the sunlight of an open meadow full of long grass. For one blissful moment, all four of her hooves soared above the ground, as though, just for a second, she could be like the birds that soared through the bright blue sky. Then it was back down to the grass, her hooves thudding in the familiar rhythm of a slowly accelerating gallop. She flew across the grass like a swift shadow, frost-coloured eyes shining in excitement, rapidly running forward until she was right next to Esmeralda. Pruina shot the other female Kelpie a cheerful glance out of the corner of her eye, as though silently challenging her to show this male Kelpie how much faster the two of them were. Without waiting for a response, she began to quicken her pace, waiting for Esmeralda to catch up.

Esmeralda smiled and got the hint. She sped up and her long legs reached longer in a bigger gaint. Her neck flew up and down each time she lunged forward. When she caught up to Pruina, she said between breaths, "Think..we..can..beat..him?".

Cody huffed as he noticed the mares showing great speed and stamina. He grabbed as much strength as he could and shot forward once again, gaining on them so only his neck was ahead of them. He looked over at them and whinnied playfully before he realized he wasn't looking where he was going.. He looked forward once more to notice a hole in the ground, but it was too late. His front left hoof caught funny and his leg twisted. He whinnied with a mixture of panic and pain as his body was thrust to the ground. His face landed first, the ground rubbing at his chin and neck as he slid before flopping onto his right side. He lay there huffing before wiggling his left leg. He winced In pain and sat up so only his haunches and right leg were holding his weight.

Esmeralda stopped immediately once she saw Cody go down. Her front legs stiffened and went out forward and her back end went to the ground so she could stop faster. She whipped around and prayed that her was ok. "Are you ok? Are you hurt? Did you break anything?" Her panic rose and her eyes went wide. She check him, but without touching him.
