Speaking to Splashpaw
It came as a surprise to Whitesky that he was given an apprentice. He was both excited by the idea and regretted the added responsibilities it entailed all at once. Then again, Splashpaw only had a short time to go before she became a warrior. This would be a nice way to end his career as a warrior on a high note before retiring. Besides, who could resist the honor of mentorship?
He touched noses with Splashpaw and returned to his place after the ceremony was over. Whitesky waited until Reedstar brought the meeting to a close before trying to speak, out of respect for his leader, new deputy, and the other cats involved in the various ceremonies of the meeting. Once it was over, her gazed down at Splashpaw and offered a small, but warm smile.
"Looks like you're stuck with me.", he purred.

Ryejaw was able to figure out, for the most part, what had happened during the meeting. Some of the apprentices had new mentors and Cloverheart was the new deputy. She found herself wondering how these changes would affect Streamclan as the various cats moved off to see to their own business.
Meanwhile, Ryejaw was on her own to figure out how to occupy her time. She still thought that trying to hunt might be fun, but she felt discouraged after having been ignored the last time she had tried to communicate this. Ryejaw lashed her tail in frustration at her deafness. It was hard sometimes, to be different.

Speaking to Hickorypaw
Nightshade was horribly disappointed when he realized that he was not named deputy. The blow was softened a little when he was given an apprentice, which was always an honor, but what he really wanted felt more out of reach than ever. Still, for the sake of the ceremony he fought down his disappointment.
Once the meeting had finished, Nightshade took a few moments so compose himself before trying to interact with Hickorypaw on a more personal level. Luckily, Hickorypaw found someone to talk to and was not left to wait by himself.
After a few minutes, Nightshade stood and padded towards Hickorypaw, approaching from behind. He was still a little bitter about the whole deputy thing, but he forced himself to focus on Hickorypaw instead. Tonight he would have plenty of quiet to think about what to do anyways.
It so happened that now was an excellent time to interrupt. As Hickorypaw named his mentor to Yuritail, who had obviously not been paying attention during the meeting if she did not know, Nightshade leaned forward and spoke in his new apprentice's ear.
"Yes, he is."
Would that surprise him, or amuse him? What sort of cat was Hickorypaw, deep inside?
