Dawnpaw nodded, her chest filling up with excitement. "Okay," she mewed, dashing off deeper into the forest, then slowing down to check for prey. No squirrels, and not any other creatures nearby. Disappointed, she continued moving through the forest, pausing to consider hunting a mouse but deciding against it since she was supposed to be catching squirrels and she'd already ticked Spiritfire off once that day. Eventually she spotted the strangely translucent bushy tail of a squirrel among the leaf litter and paused, finding the hunting crouch she'd just been practicing and stalking forward. It looked up and she froze, then scolded herself mentally and pounced. It made a dash for it, so she missed, but she turned and leaped after it, pinning it against the tree it was trying to climb and breaking its neck. It was a messy kill, and as she buried it she thought about all the things she did wrong before moving on to try and find another squirrel she could kill more cleanly.

Twistedstar licked the last of the prey off her lips and grinned. "Please, take these annoying fur balls away for while! Let me get some peace and quiet!"

(Swimmer, I had an idea pertaining to Brass and Copper. What if a dead kit looks after each of the kits? So Monsterclaw's brother Nightkit looks after Copper and influences him to be good. An evil dead kit related to Twisted could look after Brass and influence him to be evil?)

Spiritfire's icy blue eyes glittered amongst the green leaves of the bushes as he watched. He grimaced a little at the messy kill. That poor squirrel, such a messy death. Dawnpaw is lucky that it didn't scream and alert the rest of the prey! He wasn't sure if he believed that Dawnpaw was the daughter of Dreamdust and Eagleheart, he'd heard stories told of how both cats excelled at their hunting and fighting. But they did have the infamous Monsterclaw and Shrikestorm as mentors... he remembered. At the same time he realised that cats doubted Boapaw was his sister and instantly he put the thoughts of Dawnpaw's lineage out of his mind.

Tempeststar chuckled. "Come on boys," he purred to his sons. As he nudged them outside into the warm spring sunlight he was bombarded by flashes of three kits. As he looked down at his two sons he saw three instead of two; a little dark blue tabby tom, a larger brown tabby tom and a blue tabby she-cat all with green eyes. No! Go away! You're dead, you have been for seasons! he screamed inside his head. He closed his eyes tightly and then opened them, looking down instead to see the starry translucent form of Bluestorm's dead son Nightkit standing protectively over Copperkit.

Dawnpaw spotted a squirrel sitting inside a bush. She crouched and moved silently across the ground, then suddenly had a bright idea. She looked around, grabbed a twig, and with an awkward motion lobbed it ungracefully to the other side of the bush, where it clattered on the leaf litter. It didn't work, as the squirrel didn't budge, but at least it was looking in the other direction. She stalked swiftly up to it and dove, killing it cleanly this time, though she had to break a few branches to get out from under the bush. "Well that was loud." She growled to herself, burying her catch so she could move on. She sighed as she realized she'd have to go that much farther just to find any other prey, leave alone another stinking squirrel.

Tauntedpaw perked. "Foxes?" He asked, suddenly bursting with more excitement than before. He bounded after Heatherflight.

Heatherflight nodded. "Yes, foxes. They're dangerous predators, and smell kind of like dogs but they're fiercer and more willing to kill." She meowed. "You might go your whole life and never see one, and you'd be lucky for it, but then again probably not. So," When they reached the clearing, Heatherflight turned to face Tauntedpaw. "How would you attack a big red doglike creature that was invading your territory and threatening your kits?"

(Maybe one of Twisted's sisters could have been evil? It needs to be kits from Twisted and Blue's past. Or maybe the original Twisted had a mate and kits and they all died or he killed them? Or a kit he found/rescued was killed in an accident? It needs to be an evil kit or a kit that hates the living cats)

Copperkit, who had just opened his eyes that morning, looked up at his father curiously. Why was papa looking at him like that? He looked at his huge blue father and tilted his head, letting out a curious mewl. He didn't know about his guardian who stood protectively over him.

Tempeststar looked over at Brasskit, terrified of who he might see standing over his other son. Would it be Shrikestorm? Or maybe Monsterclaw? What he didn't know was that Brasskit's destiny differed from Copperkit's, and so the ruddy kit's guardian would not share the same hate for the Shadows as Copperkit's.

Spiritfire watched on, sparks of pride pricking at his paws. Genius! he thought as he watched her throw the stick. Shame she got stuck in the bush... But at least she's getting better at this.

Dawnpaw moved on, sighing as she ignored the scents of other prey, searching out more squirrels. She would have preferred to starve on a regular hunting mission, because at least then the only prey that would get away from her would be prey she scared away, not prey she was supposed to avoid. She kept on moving until she caught fresh squirrel-scent and spotted the grey body and distinctive tail she'd been searching for. Up in a tree. Well, she'd just have to climb as quietly as she could, she supposed, and see if she could still sneak up on it. It wasn't very high up. She began to climb the tree, which was thankfully not close enough to other trees that the squirrel would have an easy time leaping to the next one. Her paws were sure and silent, and her claws only scratched the bark occasionally. Once the squirrel tensed and looked around, and she froze, watching it, her muscles trembling as she fought to keep her place on the tree. When it went back to whatever squirrel-business it was doing, she heaved herself onto the first branch for a rest, stretching out her shoulders, which hurt after expending so much energy to hold steady and quiet. You'd better be the tastiest darn squirrel under the sun, or so help me I will shred you, she thought angrily at the squirrel, which continued to nibble at its nut as she prepared to climb over to its branch.
Dawnpaw was ready to just leap over and end it, but she was certain she would fall regardless of whether she killed the squirrel and she doubted she could land well. She glanced down. Certainly she could land without badly injuring herself, but it would be painful all the same. Instead, she hooked her claws into the trunk's bark again and, sore shoulders protesting, slid over to the squirrel's branch. Easy now, but quick, she told herself- caution for the branch, but quick for the kill. She padded out, and the moment the squirrel's head jerked around at the vibration she pounced, killing but dropping the squirrel as she clung to the branch. "Foxdung!" She hissed, her front end over the branch as her body and hind legs hung. If she fell from here, she'd definitely hurt herself, as she would barely have time to turn in the air before hitting the ground. Come on, Dawnpaw, what would Leafwisp think of a clumsy apprentice who falls out of trees while hunting? she berated herself as she fought to get a better grip on the branch. "Spiritfire? I could use a little help, if you have any advice!" She called out, trying to sound calmer than she was.

Spiritfire dashed out of the undergrowth and like raced up the tree in a blurr of ruddy fur. He moved like a wildfire, leaping from branch to branch like flames on a windy day. He stopped at the branch under Dawnpaw and looked up at her. "Drop down onto my back," he told her. The lithe tom's muscles rippled under his pelt as he sunk his claws into the branch.

"Are you sure-" Dawnpaw started to protest, but she could feel herself slipping, so instead she focused on landing as softly and neatly as she could on Spiritfire. She clung to him with three paws, one of her hind paws reaching out to scrabble for a pawhold on the branch to help them balance and not fall.

((Rp it out, I guess? I'm open for a lot with her. She certainly admires Leafwisp but that doesn't have to necessarily develop, and she respects Spiritfire and trusts him to an extent.))
