"When I was noticed, I felt terrified. This was the first wolf I had ever seen, much less interacted with. I was more scared than I was when I first woke up."
Atra woke up feeling incredibly sore. She probably shouldn’t have pushed so hard getting to the clearing, and been more cautious along the way. Whatever, she thought, I should probably go hunting anyways
Atra found herself hunting near the creek, where she had been discovered the day before. It wasn’t long before she heard more humming. It wasn’t Alicia that was for sure. The voice sounded different, more melodic. Atra quickly hid, and a wolf with a creamy pelt appeared not too long after. This time, Atra knew the differences between female and male, and quickly identified this wolf as another female. Just as Atra thought the she-wolf would pass by with little trouble, she sat down and appeared to be taking a break. Atra mentally cursed. This was worse than when she had met Alicia. Atra backed up a little, pausing when she accidentally brushed against a few leaves. Noticing the other wolf hadn’t appeared to hear, she turned around, accidentally stepping on another twig. Atra cursed again. Things just weren’t going her way.

Crysanthia was sitting next to the creek, taking a small break from her trek, when she heard the sound of a twig snapping, and instantly shot up, alert. She turned, and saw the dark silhouette of another wolf start to run off. Crysanthia instantly started to run after it, taking advantage of her naturally strong hind legs to power after the stranger. She ran after it, weaving through trees and bushes, slowly gaining ground. She finally grew close enough to make out the features of the wolf. It was pale gray, and definitely female. Crysanthia braced herself, then leaped, tackling the other wolf to the ground.
Crysanthia could see the other wolf’s eyes now. They flared an intense neon blue, and were filled with fear and anger. “Who are you?”
The other wolf glared at Crysanthia. “Atra,” she responded curtly.
“Crysanthia.”
Atra squirmed under Crysanthia’s grip. “If you’d be so kind.”
Crysanthia got off of Atra. “Why were you watching me?”
Atra stared at Crysanthia for a moment, then fell to the ground laughing. “You think I was watching you? As if! I was hunting when you came by and apparently took a break right then and there.”
Crysanthia frowned. “Then at least tell me why you didn’t come up and greet me like any other wolf.”
Atra returned the frown. “I don’t need to explain myself to a pansy like you.”
Crysanthia smirked. Gotcha’. “So says the wolf who was caught by said ‘pansy’.”
Atra gave a small chuckle at this. “So it seems.” Atra smiled softly. “I suppose you’re alright, Crysanthia.”
“That’s always nice to hear. You can call my Crys by the way. You seemed uncomfortable earlier. Why is that?”
Atra’s expression immediately turned serious. “Would you believe me if I told you that you were only the second wolf I’d ever met?”
Crysanthia was shocked. Only the second? What, is she? She couldn’t be. Could she?. “You’re… an orphan?” she ventured.
Atra nodded gravely. “Yeah, two years of being alone, and only now do I realize how lonely I’ve been.”
Crysanthia wasn’t usually very outspoken, but she decided to make an exception. “Would you like a friend?”
Atra immediately perked up, bringing a soft grin to Crysanthia’s face. “That’d be… wonderful.”
