Needlefang had her nose to the ground digging out a small back area to her den, tidings up the main area and organizing her things. Though it was mostly the former as she noticed how exposed her den was and how large it was due to the large breeds in her pack. Nights we’re especially harsh for such a small dog to be out in suck a large area, so she was quickly making a loose pile of dirt outside of the entrance of her den. She let her apprentice sleep because she was out of the way and couldn’t help much with this endeavor, but someone came to mind as she was realizing that she wasn’t making much of a dent in her task. Scurrying our of her den with dirt on her muzzle, she nodded at Thornheart before looking at the omega chihuahua not much larger than herself. “Rive, once you eat I’d like your help with something only you can do, a very important task indeed.” She said, trying to make it sound more important than it actually was. Though it was clear she was trying to be nice, her tone went more towards the ordering side than asking. Stomach growling, she grabbed a small rat and laid down to eat it, finally shaking the dirt from her head as she did.

The deer's head dropped to the prey-pile with a soft thud, softened by the other prey. Velvetstar felt a surge of love and pride for her Packmates as she looked it over; there was more than enough for even the omega, Rive, to get a good share. She eyed the belly of the deer hungrily, but managed to tear it away. She'd eat after she was sure everyone else had. Instead, she turned to the most important business she perceived. She hauled herself up onto her favorite, twisted rock with her powerful forelegs, tilted her head back, and sang a deep, summoning howl. She smirked to herself. I'll never get tired of doing that. While they gathered, she went over what exactly she'd say in her head. For some reason, she felt obligated to make this special. She'd never had one of her own, after all, and no one deserved that, much less to have a forgetful one. Once she was certain she had the attention of her dogs, she said, "It's kind of stupid we didn't do this earlier, frankly. Let's fix that now. I've called you all here to acknowledge a pup for what she has grown into: A fine young dog, as worthy of being a warrior as you or I." She paused, watching them react and murmur among themselves. It was entertaining, watching them ponder, until she saw something far less comforting in the farthest reaches of the crowd. She lifted her huge head, examining the odd dog.

Her blood ran cold.

Bristlestar?

There was no doubt about it. That cold, emotionless face, with its horrible, soul-sucking blue eyes, couldn't have been anyone else's. The broad-shouldered dog simply sat there, staring at her daughter like she was the only other dog present. If Velvetstar didn't know any better, she could've sworn that her mother was smirking at her. But, as quickly as she had appeared, she was gone. Velvetstar felt the beginning of a snarl on her muzzle. Only the sight of the pup of the hour, Snowpaw, snapped her out of it. Shaking herself with discomfort, she quickly straightened up and smiled, playing off how unnerved she had been for what could've only been a moment. "Snowpaw, step forward."

Snowpaw stepped forward knowing why Velvetstar had called on her. She felt calm despite the confrontation with the Windpack dogs. But she didn’t think much of it. Especially not at this moment. She was actually over the whole ordeal. She stood by Velvetstar.

Fawnfoot stirred from his nap at the sound of his alpha's howl. Drowsy and sluggishly, he drug himself up and made his way toward where Velvetstar had called the pack together. His tail gave a slow wag as he began to wake up fully. He hadn't taken any of Dawnpaw's poppy seeds yet but he had somehow managed a restful nap with zero nightmares. It felt good to finally get some rest. As Velvetstar called up Snowpaw, Fawnfoot knew exactly what was happening. Snowpaw's warrior naming was in perfect timing too. Shadow pack had fewer warriors than Fawnfoot could ever remember and he didn't like the thought of easily being over taken by the other packs. He watched as the ceremony proceeded, wagging his tail. Felt like yesterday that he had been named a warrior. Every detail remained vivid in his mind. It was however, many moons ago now and Fawnfoot wasn't nearly as agile as he used to be. With a soft yawn, he took a seat and thumped his tail pleased to have a new warrior in the pack.

Again, pride tickled her as she took note of how calm Snowpaw appeared as she made her way atop the twisted rock, despite that she had just come back from a confrontation and also probably knew well why she was being called on. Velvetstar wondered if she would've carried herself this way if she'd gotten her own warrior ceremony like the other pups. Would it have been as impressive as when she'd been standing, triumphant, over the corpse of a tyrant in Bristlestar while she asserted her leadership and an identity she had chosen for herself, not had had forced on her? Would her fellow Shadowpackers have liked her more?

Then again, she hadn't been nearly as confident as she was now, and she would've been marching not to a kind, proud leader, but her own mother. She'd been so young and hyper-focused on not bothering Bristlestar that she'd willingly kept her head down over trying to make new friends. Now, the relationship between Velvetstar and her Pack seemed...distant. Sure, it saddened her a little that she couldn't consider anyone in ShadowPack a close friend, but she was still content, she told herself. She loved them all, no matter how they saw her.

She strained to continue beaming as she announced, "You knew this pup for moons as Snowpaw, but that isn't so fitting for her anymore. From this moment forth, she will be called Snowstorm." Velvetstar turned away from the Pack and to the bright-eyed dog beside her. She placed a massive paw gently onto her shoulder, contrasting her own size and strength. "May you serve this Pack well for moons to come, young warrior."

“Thank you Velvetstar. I will certainly do my best to help our pack.” Snowstorm said, smiling a sincere smile at Velvetstar. She certainly wasn’t afraid of the alpha, but she didn’t want to get on Velvetstar’s bad side. She actually thought of Velvetstar as a role model or a friend. That wasn’t about to change. She didn’t mind lending a paw to any of her fellow pack mates. She made a mental note to help anyone however she could.

Birchpaw grinned a slobbery smile and wag his short stump of a tail. He lifted up his head and threw his voice into a chorus of all of his pack-mates. "Snowstorm! Snowstorm!" He chanted alongside them.

Dawnpaw's dreams were all strange and jarred, featuring her vision of... well, her vision earlier that day, but also of other memories mashed together, making a strange combination. She was drifting in and out of sleep repeatedly, and Needlefang kept on appearing in her dreams, sometimes reciting her vision. Her sleep was jarred as a howl rang through the air, and Dawnpaw staggered to her feet, yawning. It must be Snowpaw. Velvetstar hinted that she was giving her her warrior name. Yawning, she doused her face in water, and stumbled out of the den. Velvetstar was a blur on the rock, as was Snowpaw, though she was much more distinguishable due to her lighter fur. Dawnpaw smiled slightly as Snowpaw was named Snowstorm. It was fitting that she receive her warrior name.

Thornheart limped over to where the pack was gathering, still carrying the young hare. She barked in approval at Velvetstar's choice, and hoarsly chanted the new name along with everyone else. "Snowstorm! Snowstorm! Snowstorm!" Good for you, Velvetstar. She deserves it, Thornheart thought, watching the relatively calm Snowstorm. She had been such a hard-working apprentice, always seeking to help and trying her best. Thornheart was reminded of herself, almost, though she doubted she had been that calm when receiving her warrior name. If she remembered correctly, it was all the young apprentice talked about for a solid moon. Chuckling, Thornheart continued to cheer.

Snowstorm smiled at her fellow pack members. She knew this day was going to come. She just hoped she would be as good a warrior as she had been an apprentice. Possibly better, hopefully. She just wanted to please Velvetstar and the pack. I am honored to be a warrior. I’ll do my best to be a warrior the pack can be proud to have. she thought.
