As Appleleaf leaped at one wing, Eaglestar, claws outstretched, went for the other. Together, they pushed the huge bird back. It screeched, the sound hurting Eaglestar's ears, as its back hit the dirt. She bit into its wing as hard as she could, nearly choking on the feathers.

Seeing Eaglestar biting down on the eagle's wing, the bird crashed to the ground with a thud. As far as she could get to the great bird's neck, she stretched out and clamped her jaws on the bird's shoulder. "The throat! Racconstrike, go for it's throat!" She cried desperately as Eaglestar and herself couldn't hold it down for much longer.

Raccoonstrike did as he was told. Dodging the bird's flailing talons, he leapt over the wing and sunk his teeth into the neck of the raptor. He had forgotten about the beak, and was given a hard whack on his shoulder. But his bite had done well, and the eagle squawked in sudden fear as it realized it was dying. Raccoonstrike slithered off as the bird spasmed for a moment, then lay still. Warily, the young tom sniffed at it, but with relief he saw it was dead. With no more adrenaline rushing through him, he felt the pain of his injuries return with a jolt. The deep strokes on his side dripped blood on the ground and his shoulder stung like fury, but he shook himself and looked to the she-cats. "Are you alright?" he asked quickly, searching them for signs of wounds like his.

Stonekit looked up at pineclaw and heard his tummy growl again "pineclaw..."he meowed

With the eagle's final breath, his struggles stopped. His eyes glazed over and all was calm again. Racconstripe looked up and the both of them and asked if they had suffered injuries. "Us? What about you Raccoonstrike?" Appleleaf stared intently at the fresh woulds the eagle had delivered to the tom, dripping down his pelt seeping into the ground. "Come. Let's fix you both up. We may as well take the bird for fresh kill. First, lets get back to camp." Appleleaf said taking a wing of the bird in her jaws.

Eaglestar rolled off the eagle's wing, breathing heavily. She looked up at Racoonstrike's question. "Fine," she breathed. She was covered in long scratches, but none were very deep. She realized she was shaking, and tried to stay still. "Appleleaf? Are you alright?" she asked, looking over at the medicine cat.

"Yes, Stonekit?" replied Pineclaw.

Appleleaf looked herself over only to find a the large scratches along her left flank. "I'll be fine." She said giving Eaglestar a quick look over. Her pelt was riddles with scratches from the eagle's fierce talons and beak. All three cats had missing patches of fur and seeping wounds but Appleleaf decided the last leader and a fien young warrior were a bit more important than herself. After all, that's how medicine cats must think. Their clan before themselves. "Aren't we going to be a sorry sight." She half chuckled hopign to lighten the mood as they started to move back to camp.

Eaglestar laughed quietly. "We certainly are." she replied. "How Robinstar managed to take down one of those on her own, I have no idea." she added, mostly to herself. Robinstar, Eaglestar's mentor, had been the FlameClan leader before her, and had been the one to save Eaglestar from the eagle that had taken her as a kit. Eaglestar paused for a moment, looking over at Appleleaf and Raccoonstrike. "Thank you," she said, her voice sincere. "Both of you. You saved my life back there."

"Your welcome. It kind of comes with the title." Appleleaf smiled to herself. "You may not have been my clan leader, but now I guess you are." Appleaf sighed at the memory of her own clan leader who died trying to save some trapped cats during that fire. "We are all a clan now." She said matching pawsteps with the two cats next to her.
