Batfang yowled Duckpaw's name supportively, but stopped when he heard that his Clanmate had fallen ill. "Uh-oh." He turned to Specklepelt. "That doesn't sound too good."

Mallowshade said not a word the whole time. She only sighed with distress before padding over to Firepaw and meowing, "Come on, Firepaw. Let's go hunting." She didn't want to be around if something bad should happen to Maplefur.

Cinderpaw tittered sheepishly. "Sorry. Beetles are just so fun to play with!" She whipped her head around to hear what Moonstar had to say, then gave a little bounce of excitement when the Clan leader announced that Duckpaw would begin her training as a medicine cat apprentice. "Duckpaw! Duckpaw! Duckpaw!" she whooped. She bounded on over to Duckpaw and gave the little she-cat a friendly nuzzle. "Congratulations, Duckpaw! I know you'll become a great medicine cat!" But when the medicine cat apprentice suddenly blurted out that Maplefur was sick, Cinderpaw's excitement was immediately replaced with apprehension. "Sick? Will...will he be okay?"

Despite the sheer dread and anxiety that prickled beneath her pelt, Milkflower forced herself to stay calm, taking one deep breath after another before looking Leopardtail straight in the eyes and explaining as serenely as possible: "Maplefur and I went hunting earlier today in a deeper, darker part of the forest. For all we know, it may not have even been in AshClan territory anymore. In any case, Maplefur caught a crow there and began to eat it as soon as we returned to camp. B-but..." She struggled to keep the shakiness out of her voice. "He coughed it up a minute later and said that he thought it was poisoned."

Larkpaw sighed. She had been in the camp for days! She wanted to train or hunt or just do something! "I'm sooo bored!" She yowled.
