Kestrelclaw felt his heart swell with empathy for the ginger she-cat. He knew how she felt, in a sense. When he was only an apprentice, Kestrelpaw had had a huge crush on his very own mentor, Petalfur, but had never had the heart or the courage to tell her. But, as it turned out, he hadn't even needed to, for the feisty gray she-cat had fallen in love with a handsome loner not long before her death. Kestrelpaw had been devastated when he first found out, not quite so much because his mentor was in love with a cat outside of the Clan, but more so because she was in love with a cat other than himself. It was an awful feeling, and the worst part was you couldn't even really do much about it. You just had to wait for it to pass, and sometimes it never really did. Fortunately, Kestrelclaw had learned to get over it in time, but he could only hope that it would be the same for Foxcloud. He gave her an affectionate lick on the forehead. "We should prob'ly be gettin' back to camp now. C'mon, le's go."

Milkflower froze in fear when Maplefur began to cough. "P-poisoned?" she echoed. "Oh, but that's terrible! And you've just eaten it! W-what's going to happen?" She began to pace back and forth in a very panicked manner. "The medicine cat! Leopardtail! She'll look after you. Come along now, quickly!" She started for the medicine cat's den, checking back once or twice to make sure that Maplefur was following.

Maplefur slowly for up and paced after her, trying to keep his balance. Once to the medicine cats den, he immediately flipped on the ground and began panting. He needed Milkflower to explain what happened to Leopardfur, he couldn't waste a single breath.
