Sauchin was walking slowly, his mind focused on absorbing every ounce of wonder nature offered today. The more he walked, the more familiar the place felt. The vivid, green colors, the smell of water pouring along distant lakes.. He saw a bright yellow butterfly, that he fixated his eyes on. He went into crouch mode, and slowly crept up to it.. He tensed his muscles, and felt his paw swipe through thin air. The butterfly flew up into a tree. Then he remembered. He had chased butterflies here when he was a pup, with his relatives. This was where he grew up. Sauchin suddenly felt humble and nostalgic, while starting to walk again.
He could pick up a faint smell, which then grew stronger till he knew it was the smell of other Serenches. He was surprised. It was such a long time since he actually met other of his kind, and to realize there was some not far away from here seemed like an unreal thought. First he was unsure. But then he shook his head, and kept walking, now with more rapid steps, drumming on the soft earth. His ears tilted urgently forward when he heard a loud, banging noise that made his whole body shrug. What was that? He trotted even faster, and felt the smell of blood.
The first thing he saw was the blood, emanating from unknown creatures that smelled dead. Then he saw other bodies, covered with fur and chests that moved up and down, in a clearing. One was sitting up. It was a Serenche he was looking at.
