As they got further into the forest, Wolfpaw began to smell an awful smell. ‘What is that?’ He thought to himself. He slowed down, beginning to lag behind the group. Finally, as they got ahead, he split off, following the smell. His heart thudded in his chest, his paw steps frantic as his thoughts began to wander. Was there something out there? The forest around him began to grow dark, and he shrunk into himself, his eyes wide. Finally, he broke through, tripping over what seemed to be smelling. Wigeonpaw. A startled scream left Wolfpaw’s throat. Wigeonpaw’s eyes were wide, blood seeped into the ground around him. “Juniperpounce! Aspenfang! Ravenpaw!” Wolfpaw cried, skittering back on his haunches to get away from the body.

Juniperpounce slowed to a halt, upon realizing that the number of pawsteps following her didn't match the number of cats on the patrol. She slowly glanced behind her, noticing that Wolfpaw was gone, "Hey, does anyone know where Wolfpaw-" The she-cat was cut off a startling shriek, followed by a familiar voice calling her name. She reacted instantly, turning towards the sound of her apprentice, "Aspenfang! Ravenpaw! Follow me!" She ordered and sprinted forward, eyes hastily scanning for any signs of Wolfpaw. Had he gotten hurt? Ambushed?

She got her answer upon arriving at the scene. Juniperpounce stared at the dead body of Wigeonpaw, horrified. Averting her eyes, the deputy instead focused on comforting Wolfpaw, "Hey, it's going to be okay. We'll..." She paused, moving to wrap her tail around Wolfpaw, "We'll find who did this." Her voice edged on a growl, before glancing back at the corpse.

Wolfpaw’s wide eyes met Juniperpounce’s as she rushed into the clearing, leaning into her comforting him. He’d never imagined finding a clanmates body. “What happened..?” He caught himself asking, turning his face to look away from the horrible sight. He knew he was supposed to be strong, that clanmates came and went in this life, but he didn’t expect the first time to be like this, or to be a younger cat. He shook out his fluffed up fur, fear running through his veins.

Hearing Wolfpaw's calls, Ravenpaw hurried to where he was. Normally, he wouldn't have bothered, but the apprentice sounded distressed. Ravenpaw's eyes widened when he saw Wigeonpaw's dead body. "Oh my Starclan..." He murmured in shock. He wasn't one to scream like Wolfpaw was, the reserved tom kept his grief hidden away under his thick fur. He wasn't used to feeling more emotions other than annoyance and anger, so Ravenpaw wasn't exactly sure what to do.

She comfortingly licked Wolfpaw, trying to calm him down, "Wigeonpaw has been attacked." Juniperpounce announced, padding towards the body to inspect it. She bent down and sniffed the corpse, before gently prodding Wigeonpaw. Cold. The body was cold. And very, very dead. The she-cat stood up again and sighed, her tail sadly drooping behind herself as she turned around to look at the other members of the patrol, "And he is dead. There are no other scents on the body, beyond Thunderclan." She explained.
