"She must have followed us from the clans. I've scented her many a time before around the edges of RainClan territory." Appleleaf examined the white loner, she was very big for a loner, they were usually smaller. "Isn't she a bit strange looking?" Appleleaf commented realizing she'd never seen cat cat that look like well... that. "I'll go see if I can find Eaglestar, I think she's hunting near by." Appleleaf said with a swish of her tail. "Eaglestar?" She called into the mass of grass. Why must the leader's pelt match this cursed grass?

Once Eaglestar was sure she was close enough, she pounced, diving for the mouse.
She wasn't the only one. She crashed into a wall of feathers, the screech that had haunted her nightmares as a kit ringing in her ears. She yowled, rolling away just in time to avoid a slash from the eagle's talons. The bird flapped it's wings, it's dark brown feathers blotting out the sun. Eaglestar froze--no longer the experienced leader, for that moment she was no more than the frightened kit she'd been, all those seasons ago. She thought she heard her name, faintly, but couldn't be sure over her heartbeat pounding in her ears.

"Eaglestar!" Appleleaf cried as a large eagle swooped over the FlameClan leader. Swallowing the bile that rose in her throat at the thought of what was about to happen, Appleleaf ran and sprang at Eaglestar unable to stand by and watch her injured or even killed at the claws of a mouse brained bird. "Eaglestar!" Appleleaf cried to the cowering she-cat, unable to move, frozen with fear. This only angered the eagle as it flew up in order to take another dive at the tasty meal that those cats were blocking from it. Maybe the cats would be better? Applealeaf tried her best to move the leader from plain sight in a bare patch in the grass but Eaglestar would just not move.

The young tom leapt to his paws at the sharp screech of an eagle. His fur fluffed up and his eyes widened as he spotted the huge bird in the sky, looking ready to dive down again. Was it attacking Appleleaf? He had heard her cry out. Raccoonstrike darted away from the loner and after the way the medicine cat had disappeared. Eaglestar! The leader was frozen with terror, with Appleleaf by her side. RainClan's healer was trying to hurry Eaglestar to a more sheltered spot. Raccoonstrike darted down to help, his eyes bright with fear. He hissed in the direction of the winged predator, who was preparing another attack. "Move!" The normally calm tomcat urged his leader, his mew harsh with horror.

"We'll have to carry her." Appleleaf cried as the eagle dived from his perch in the sky. All the cats saw was a large brown blob screeching towards them, and the bird saw something that was stealing his meal. "Come Eagestar!" Appleleaf tried again to get Eaglestar to move as she slipped one of the leader's arms over her own shoulder and began pulling the leader into the grass. "Help me Racconstrike! She's too heavy for me." Appleleaf struggled to shift the leader.

The eagle dove again, and Eaglestar, eyes wide, forced herself to move. She pushed Appleleaf out of the way, the eagle's talons grazing her shoulder as she stumbled. She growled, her ears pinned to the back of her head, and glared up at the eagle. Her every instinct screamed for her to run, but as the eagle swooped down again, she jumped, letting out a half-crazed yowl. She hit the eagle's wing, but she'd underestimated the bird's strength and was knocked back, hitting the ground hard. She rolled out of the way as the eagle dove after her, barely avoiding its sharp beak.

"Oomph!" Appleleaf fell to the ground as Eaglestar brought herself to move and pushed her out of the way. Eaglestar leapt at the bird, but wasn't strong enough to knock it over. The eagles talons scraped the leader's head as it flew back up to dive again. "Raccoonstrike?!" She cried as the eagle swooped at the black tom.

Eaglestar hissed as the eagle scratched her head, scrambling to her paws as it wheeled around for another attack. Instead of her, the eagle dove for a dark tom--Raccoonstrike. She couldn't remember when he'd arrived. She raced forwards, not entirely sure what she intended to do, but not about to let a clanmate be attacked without trying to save them.

Raccoonstrike rolled to his paws, shaking the dust from his pelt and blinking around. He stumbled towards Appleleaf and Eaglestar as the eagle flapped up again, then froze when the medicine cat yowled his name. He saw Eaglestar race towards him and let out a silent squeak as the eagle dove directly towards him, and bolted out of the way. A moment too late; talons ripped his flank and he gasped at the pain. He forgot about it and spun around, knowing the eagle would be on his leader in a moment. He growled ferociously and swiped at the bird, trying to distract it.

Unsure of what to do, Appleleaf did as Eaglestar did and positioned herself on the other side of Racoonstrike. They may not be clan mates, but she wasn't one to go down with out a fight. Even though she was never trained in combat of course. The eagle was a mere fox length from them. Appleleaf's hackles, raised she felt a firece hiss escape her mouth. The eagle came at them ripping into Racconstrike, claws first and Appleleaf sprung at the bird's wing.
