Branchclaw padded into the den and took a piece of fresh-kill from the pile. He chose a magpie and settled down with it. "This tasts like mouse bile!" he growled. But he managed to choke it down.

Branchclaw lay on his side, trying to get sleep. He wheezed.

Branchclaw suddenly heard rustling in the bushes. A cat leaped out from the braken in the den. "Eagletalon!"
He yowled. "Get the others to safety! We're being invaded!!"

He hissed at the other cat and charged to it. He barreled into its flank, still wondering if Eagletalon was alerting Shadestar.
