Lostear looked at Ashenstar, trying to make out what she had said. She put her tail up to Ashenstars chest, and soft said, "I'm... in..... there..... Lostear's tail and head fell to the ground. Her chest slowly kept going until it stopped completely.

Ashenstar wished she could have delivered the message in time, but it was difficult with Lostear's inability to hear her. Besides, the choice ShadowClan cats made was often difficult and not easily decided in such situations. The leader could only sit there and watch as the elder's frail body fell limp. Regretfully, she stayed by the old she-cat's side until she was sure she was gone.
"Normally," she said in a low voice, "we would have the elders bury her, but Lostear was our only elder. She was my mentor, so I will bury her. Does anyone wish to help?"

Wavepaw grinned, grabbing a small vole from the fresh-kill pile and sitting down. "Tell him that if he ever needs me, I can always help," he said happily, curling his fluffy tail around his paws. "I've been great, thanks! How about you? I heard you're really good in training; honestly, I'm a little scared to fight you!"

Nightshade's eyes filled with grief. Since there weren't any more elders in the camp at the moment, she decided to help volunteer to help dig Lostear's grave. "It's the least I can do to repay her for saving my life.." she whispered in a small voice.

Hickorygaze just stared at Lostear. He almost felt sad for her. He dipped his head down, "I would help burry her, but I was about to take Emberpaw out for training, she did a lot of cleaning today so..." He felt his ears go back ashamed for once in his life that he didn't help do someting. He did love Lostear, and he never thought he would, miss her.

Nightshade then waited for Ashenstar's orders. Rolling her eyes at Hickorygaze's petty excuse, she let out brief glances of grief. Watching as the clan gathered to pay respects and gathered around Lostear, she spotted Darkwing padding toward her with sympathy in his Amber eyes.

Darkwing ran his tail along his sister's flank. He couldn't imagine what Nightshade was feeling, but he knew she felt grief for Lostear; but perhaps not the kind of grief everyone else was feeling.

"We all owe a lot to her. Lostear will never be forgotten in the hearts of ShadowClan," Ashenstar spoke before gesturing to a spot just outside of camp. In respectful silence, she took the elder's body by the scruff and gestured for Nightshade to carry her legs.

Nightshade genitally lifted Lostear's legs off the floor. Carrying Lostear was easier than she thought due to the fact that the elder was so light weighted from not eating as much as she should have. Remorse soon left her blank and expressionless as they left the clearing. Feeling startled that Darkwing had joined then by helping carry her torso, she let Ashenstar lead the way to her chosen grave spot along with their ancestors.
