Shudderleaf's ears pricked and she bounded over to the tree and sniffed it. There were definitely kits in there, but the scent was covered with the forest, so Shudderleaf couldn't tell. "Are these the kits?" Shudderleaf called anxiously at the coming patrol.

Birchfire lit up, she sniffed around the tree, "Yes!" She exclaimed. "Come on kits..." She cooed, "Mommy's here.." she called gently.
Suddenly, they were jumped, SummerMoonClan warriors had attacked them. Birchfires kits dangled helplessly from their leaders mouth, who had snatched them up last second. Birchfire yowled and attacked the leader, he fell to the ground with a thud, sending her crying kits tumbling on the muddy ground. It was raining really hard now, and the warriors slipped every time trying to fight. In the midst, Echochance yelled to Birchfire, "RUN! Hurry with the kits back to camp!" She was fighting the one of the clans Elders, "But I can't just leave you here!" Birchfire yelled back, picking up her drenched, shivering kits. "NOW!" Yelled Echochance sternly.

Shudderleaf snarled and leapt at a dirty tabby tom. The tom simply knocked her down and zipped away; leaving Shudderleaf with a huge gash in her shoulder, eyes glazed. "No....." She gurgled, a trickle of blood coming out of her mouth. At least I helped save the kits, Shudderleaf thought. She flicked her eyes open and saw a familiar cat walking toward her. "S-S-Sandclaw?" She gasped. Sandclaw made no noise as he padded over to Shudderleaf. He touched noses with Shudderleaf, and Shudderleaf fell asleep.

They continued to fight until the warriors fled. Birchfire regained the kits and they turned to walk home. Birchfire gasped and droped the kits, "Sorry kits..." She cooed softly as she lay down and draw them toward her, covering their eyes. She lay down next to Shudderleafs broken, dead, body, she knew there was no life left in her. Her best friend, the only other Queen in the nursery... "What are we going to tell Dripkit." Said Articpast sorrowfully, sitting and hanging his head for the lost Queen.

Birchfire tried to hold back the tears but it was as if the Hoover Dam were made from sticks and mud, it couldn't hold back.
Ripplekit put his small paw on Birchfires fluffy chest, not taking his eyes of her.

The rest of the troop sat vigil for the lost Queen, and Echochance let a single tear fall, but nothing more.

It was very dark. Shudderleaf couldn't see anything. "Hello?" She meowed and it echoed around the dark den. "Hello Shudderleaf." She whipped around to see Sandclaw, his tail curled neatly around his paws. "A-am I in S-starclan?" Shudderleaf asked quavering. "Not quite. You almost died. But I couldn't leave my sister to die when she still had a kit to take care of." Sandclaw mewed. Shuddderleaf was about to say something, when she woke in the WinterSunClan camp, noses tickling her from all sides. She was too bone tired to move, and from the corner of her eye she saw Dripkit, tears pouring from his eyes like a river. He was moaning, and not even his other kit friends could calm him down. Shudderleaf tried to move, still confused. Then realization swept over her like wind on the moor. They were sitting vigil for her! They thought she was dead!

Articpast touched noses with Shudderleaf one last time, he had never had the chance to tell her how he felt. Then before he backed away, he felt a small blow of air come from her nose, "I think Shudderleaf is still alive!" He cried. "I-I-I I felt her breathe!" He exclaimed.
Echochance ran up to her stunned, "Shudderleaf! If you can hear me, open your eyes and blink!" She yelled, searching Shudderleafs face for any trace of life.
