• • • I sighed, dropping my smile. My heart dropped at the thought of it. Losing a loved one... Watching them perish, as you listen to their last dying words. And with the loss of them, a space opens in your heart; empty and alone. I knew what it was like. My old mate, Mouse, had died. We had had so much fun! Stargazing, and adventuring... Those were my younger days, before the clan even came to be. He died later on. I missed him, so, so dearly... I'd even gone into a short depression... Until, one night, I saw a new star in the sky; and I knew he was looking down on me, still loving me. And I joined the clans; if he was to join Starclan, why shouldn't I join a clan down on Earth?! Looking back up at Owlflight, I tried to brighten my mood. Pulling on a faint smile, I answered him, "She's in the ranks of Starclan, Owlflight." I mewed softly, "It's probably best you not mention it around Petalkit."

• • • With a sigh, I sat down. The damp grass was soothing underpaw. I pinned my ears back, irritated. I flicked the tip of my tail at a steady pace. So desperately I tried... So, so very desperately I tried to push that crawling fear to the back of my head... They were there; every second of everyday... I unsheathed my claws and growled faintly in anger. I'd get them back someday... Yes, I would. And I would tear their throats out, killing each wolf off, one by frikin one...

"Oh" Owlflight replied. He hadn't realized that Petalkit had lost her mother. He had lost his parents, but that was different. They were old and frail when they died, but had proudly lived to see him become warrior. Petalkit was only a kit, with still about a moon left until she became an apprentice. Looking down at his paws, he quietly replied to Lillyshade,"I hadn't realized that." Suddenly, Owlflight thought of something strange. "Wait, I didn't know that Stoneclan had lost a queen." He looked up at Lillyshade. "And why didn't that kit know anything about Starclan. Shouldn't the rest of her clan be taking care of her? I mean, she is still there clan mate." Owlflight was confused and furious. How could a clan reject a kit for not having a mother? Those snake-hearts!...He caught a hold of himself. Why did he care so much about the kit? He might be fighting her someday. shaking his head, he realized how dangerous it was to get to know cats from other clans. There was enough going on with the wolves without worrying about some kit from another clan.

• • • I looked at Owlflight and hissed. Flicking a whisker, I stared at him for a moment. Don't just accuse, mouse-brain! I though, flicking my tail in annoyance. With a sigh and a roll of my eyes, I responded, "Well, she is taken care of!" I mewed to the tom, "There are cats there who take care of her, I know that! You can't just accuse!" After a brief pause I started again. Why not tell the story...? "Her mother died a little while ago. Not in the wolf fight, no; before that. And she doesn't know about Starclan because, for one, she's only a kit! And, there aren't any other queens or elders in that clan. Except for the ones who are watching over her then and there, there really is no one with the time to tell her all these stories." With a yawn, I laid down. I was getting tired myself. Especially with all this talking... True, I was a story teller, but eventually everything got tiring, fun as it.

I sat down beside him. Trying to find and answer.I looked for something to look at. It was getting dark and i swear there was a small start tinkling above our heads...Today was..fun, well sort of.I still wondered about my mentor. He was weird. Yes. But in a good way , and I liked it that way. He was mysterious and I sometimes wish I could understand what he was hiding. But, I am fairly simple and maybe I can become like him one day. Well. Since it was sunset I thought we could go back "well,Rivershade , do you want to go back to camp?"

Spadestar padded slowly, blood trickling from his shoulder where the wolf had attacked him. He gave a small glance toward Eaglestar, his eyes somewhat softening. "Do you have any deep wounds?" He asked, glancing toward the medicine cat den. The apprentice had already been taken there, and he had to admit that he needed to be treated to, but Eaglestar had fought harder than he, so she earned being treated before him.
