Riverstripe tilted his head when the she-cat mentioned having liked someone for a bit. His mind immediately went to Lostnight; he had seen the two spending much of their time together as of late. Elmshade seemed to be Lostnight's closest friend in the clan, and Lostnight seemed to despise Riverstripe for interrupting their one-on-one time together. Riverstripe wondered what Elmshade could possibly see in him, if she had had feelings for him at one point. He briefly considered that she could have liked Blizzardclaw--Beestar seemed to, after all, and Riverstripe couldn't help but feel inferior next to him. The deputy was handsome, kind, reliable, and an overall likable tom, not to mention one in a position of authority. What wasn't there to like about him? It seemed that the deputy had feelings for Beestar at least, and if she felt the same way, Riverstripe didn't stand a chance. Shaking these thoughts away, he turned his attention back to Elmshade. "Well, there's no rush," he attempted to reassure her with a small smile. "Robinwind has had a lot to deal with lately...I wouldn't like to be a medicine cat, but from what I've seen, he's doing a great job handling everything."
Sunflare followed after his leader and denmate silently, bringing up the rear and keeping a lookout in case danger decided to show itself. Ears pricked and jaws parted, he kept all of his senses alert for the slightest hint of another presence, and was ready to spring at a moment's notice in case anything or anyone attacked.

"Yeah, I guess we should get going now," Littleflower agreed, having collected quite a nice bundle herself. "Thanks for showing us this place, Oatleaf," she purred around her mouthful of moss. She waited for Oatleaf and Swiftbadger to leave first, intending to bring up the rear and stay beside Swiftbadger if he needed someone to lean on still. She could've sworn she caught him looking at her once, but when she glanced at him, he'd been looking somewhere else, and so she brushed it off. Things felt slightly weird between them, to say the least, and Littleflower couldn't help but wonder if there really was something between him and Mistflower--or him and Oatleaf. Littleflower had always thought of him as her best friend, and assumed he thought the same of her, but perhaps she'd been wrong. Their conversation from two moons ago about finding a mate returned to her mind, and she wondered if perhaps the tom was growing sick of her. Her ears burned slightly as she considered that perhaps she had been taking up too much of his time that he'd rather be spending with other she-cats, trying to find the perfect one to start a family with. Had she been an obstacle to him? Was she ruining his chances? What if a she-cat did like him, and he liked her, but wasn't able to spend enough one-on-one time with her because Littleflower was always with him, or the she-cat thought there was something going on between the two of them when there wasn't? These thoughts made her want to move ahead and start back to camp by herself, leaving Oatleaf and Swiftbadger to walk back by themselves, but she remained where she was, if only to offer help to her injured denmate if he needed it. That's right, she decided then and there. I'll be there if he needs me, but no more than that. He needs space.
Southstar stiffened. Was Honey really asking this of him? To raise her kit--their kit--as his own? She was right; the clan would be suspicious enough when he brought back a tom-kit that looked just like him, but even more so if he acted as the kit's father. He had been lucky with Nightwish; she had turned out darker than her parents, but Axel resembled him more. He knew he could still back out--he could lie and say there were no queens to nurse the kit. He wanted to take his son, of course, but something told him if he did, it would be the last time he would see the kit's mother. Still, if he didn't, he may never see any of them again. He could only hope Foxcloud would accept the kit, that even if she had her suspicions, she'd have enough sense to keep quiet about them and nurse Axel without complaint...and that Deertail would be the father that Southstar never could be, both to Foxcloud's kits and to Honey's. But if Deertail found out, if the clan found out, what then? "I'll try," he promised at last, his voice little more than a whisper. "But you have to tell me...what's going to become of you?"
