Hickorygaze felt a small breeze as he neared the camp. He shrugged it off and saw Nightshade by the entrance of the camp. She's such a kittypet, I hope she's the first victim. His eyes narrowed at her, giving off a weird effect. He entered the camp and yawned, sitting by the warriors den.

Wavepaw had just finished cleaning the nursery, and made a beeline towards the fresh-kill pile at last. His stomach was growling so loudly, it sounded like ten lions and twelve tigers were fighting in there, and were about to claw their way out. He was so intensely focused on the food, that he didn't even notice Tanglepaw until he tripped right over her and landed face-first on the ground. "Oh StarClan I am so sorry!" he apologized profusely, getting up awkwardly. "I need to watch where I'm going."

Nightshade suppressed a smirk as Hickorygaze passed her ignorantly. Picking up her squirrel, she padded into camp and set it lightly onto the pile. Boredom soon consumed her as her gaze flicked across the camp lazily. Once my appearance takes effect, they will never dought my loyalty.. she thought with satisfaction beaming through her as she thought about her 'innocent features' and 'caring' concerns.

Hickorygaze's eyes went big as he saw Lostear leave her den and struggle to get her breath. Go with it, you need to look like you care "Lostear!" He called to her, adding the effect that he cared.

Lostear fell to the ground, chest heaving for air. She felt tears brim her eyes. Her vision was fine, just her head was getting dizzy and she felt as if she was on fire. Tears fell down her check as her lungs started to give up.

Ashenstar paused when she heard another wheeze come from the elders' den. This was definitely not normal; with Blueflame's help, she should be getting better, not worse. When Ashenstar turned around, she saw Lostear had left her den and seemed severely disoriented, and then she fell. This wasn't the first time, but Ashenstar didn't recall seeing the elder in a worse state. And it was the middle of leaf-bare; if nothing was helping now, things would never change. Sometimes, there were acceptable losses in life.
"Lostear," she said reasonably, walking over to her old mentor. "As ShadowClan, we can offer you a choice the other Clans do not. If you are in too much pain to continue, the least we can do is make it easier." Her voice was calm and patient as always, and she hoped the elder understood what she meant. They had to do the same thing for Cliffclaw a few moons ago, when he was wounded in battle and dying slowly. Lostear knew herself better than anyone else did, so she would make the choice that was best for her.
Whatever that was.

"Thanks, Tanglepaw!" Wavepaw said cheerfully. "Oh, dear. I hope he does not get mad 'cause I bet he'll be cranky. Is he okay?"

Nightshade acted surprised as Lostear collapsed in front of her den. "Blueflame!" she called then rushed over to Hickorygaze's and Lostear's side. Letting her feathery tail stroke Lostear's flank, she murmured cooing words into her ears softly. "Everything will be fine Lostear, you will be in a better place within the ranks of Starclan.." she murmured softly while glancing up at Hickorygaze with studying eyes.
