Static gave a soft shutter as he felt the slow, yet swift drop in temperature around him, the night creeping up from everywhere like a wraith. However, as oddly as it may seem, the coolness comforted him, made his fur seem not nearly as odd and stiff. Because to him, and 4 years’ worth of cool temps hard wired into his system, this was pretty close to normal. He needed normal right now. And as a cool breeze ruffled his mane, and he sucked in a deep breath and slowly released it, his mind began to clear, bit by bit. But the sudden appearance of the next equid caught him completely off guard. He reeled in fright, rocking back onto his hind quarters with wide eyes as his heart leapt into his throat. He was ready to bolt if he had to. "Hold on, sonny. Who's coming for you? And you can calm down - we're not going to hurt you." the stallion began with a soft smile, and after a pause to assess the situation, Static guardedly let himself un tense. Unknown stallions automatically made him leery, he'd learned to be that way at a young age, but this one seemed different. Like he genuinely wanted to help. He finally answered him with a shaky nod.
A little filly wasn't too far behind in the newcomer's tracks, her rubescent eyes now studying that terrible, itching menace that clung doggedly to his head. "What is that on your head?" she asked, so bluntly, so curiously, that a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth."Heh, I wish I knew." he answered her softly after a moment, letting his eyes scan the whole group for the first time as he realized the woozy feeling was beginning to pass. The only reason for this newfound clarity he could come up with is that he wasn't terrorized nearly as acutely as he had been. Sure, after what he'd been through, he was far, far from what one would consider as "okay". He still couldn't get past that feeling that something bad was coming, and that something was watching him from deep in the shadows somewhere, but he could think now. He could function, and what his clearing vision brought him came as quite a surprise... as well as a major burn to his pride.
The three equids, all of them pintos, stood close together as they watched him, but wearily kept their distance. That was to be expected of course, especially when a gibbering mess of an individual like himself is found staggering in the woods all alone, but it was their expressions that caused the surge of irony and barely masked dismay to wash over him. But, but surely not... "Calm down, you're safe here. I'm Siren, this is Kirian, and that's Regina, we only want to help," Static's eyes landed hopefully back on the grey and white pinto as she spoke up once more. She'd been quiet up until now, and he watched as she tried to carefully, ever so gently move a little closer to where he was now sitting up. And then, pausing as if she'd thought better of it, she stepped back again. And that's when Static smiled, looking down at his hooves with an amused snort. Yep, they thought he was a nut case. Still looking down, he began slowly. "It's nice to meet you all. Look, I'm sorry about how I'm coming across, you probably all think I've lost my mind..." he said, trailing off as his jaw clinched with embarrassment, and then he looked back up at the trio with sad eyes. "Which maybe I have, I don't know, I don't even know how many days they had me before I got away. Another pause, shaking his head before his eyes shifted back to Kirian and Siren. Static wasn't used to feeling so clueless and vulnerable. He’d always known what he was doing back home, clover buds, he'd pulled his older brother out of more tight spaces than he could even remember. Yet here he was now, having to put all his trust into total strangers because he couldn't even name the trees that lingered over-head. "I won't bother you anymore, please excuse me for being such a nuisance. I just need a place to hide until daylight. Do you know of any good places? I promise I won't bother you anymore afterwards, I need to be on the move by dawn anyway, it's just, I don't recognize any of this, it even smells different." he said with a dreary, downcast voice, and with a few good rocks, he unsteadily rose to his feet to find he was taller than all of them. He'd felt so small when Siren had first appeared. Then he looked back down, and saw that the filly, who'd come closer, was now expectantly looking up at him, appearing to try and force her legs to stop shaking under her small, filly frame.
"What do these things that put that thing on your head look like?" she asked him softly, the fear evident in her voice, and he suddenly felt even worse for letting the terror get the best of him. Good job Static, frighten all the neighborhood foals. You're just a boss that way. He lowered his head to her level, which wasn't too hard since she was actually quite tall for her age, and looked into her eyes with a smile that was his best shot at being reassuring. He spoke to her in a whisper. "They're tall, taller than you and I, and they have no fur of their own except for on their heads. They seem to have made their own kind of strange, fake furs to stay warm..." he told her in a gentle, but serious tone, and then added with a breathy laugh. "But they're very clumsy on those 2 legs of theirs, and incredibly slow. You'll hear them coming a mile off, unless you're a total idiot like I am and let them surround you. Where I come from, they're called humans." he shrugged. "I don't know what you call them here."
