H i s scent came to her first. She stilled at once, and as his voice came from the yard below the fence, a smile slipped onto her muzzle. Her gaze flicked towards him as he approached. Honey stood to her paws. “Always on time, you are,” the pale silver queen murmured, her voice soft. “I hope you have a nursing queen in your Clan.” With that, Honey leaped into her own garden. She padded through the cat flap, finding her Housefolks’ den quiet and warm compared to the outside chill. She padded to her nest where three small, furry bundles, each containing a piece of her heart, slept. She watched them for a moment, knowing this would be the last night that she would see one of them. She made her decision quickly, lifting Axel gently, trying not to wake the little tom.
Kit in tow, Honey padded away from her nest, back through the catflap, and across the garden. She leaped onto the fence once more and then onto the other side, standing in front of the leader.
