Ashrunner followed Tinykit, leading her own litter. She purred. ``That's Mousestar, Tinykit. My mate. And your new father.`` She gazed at the tom, eyes glistening. ``Mousestar, meet your kits. I adopted Tinykit, she was thrown out by her mother, or lost, or something.`` The tabby brushed her tail against her other kits, smaller and squinting against the sun. ``These rascals are Poppykit, Hailkit, Petalkit, Rainkit and Bluekit.``

Hailkit narrowed his amber eyes. ``. . . Father. . .?`` His voice was small and handsome-sounding. ``Our father is the Leader?``

Tinykit looked back at the smaller kits. "What lleader?" She meowed, returning her gaze to Mousesyar.

Poppykit squeak from being startled by her sleep and then looked around tiredly. She saw Ashrunner her mother and then saw another cat. He looked big, which scared her a little cause she was small. She huddled behind Hailkit trying to hide from their father but also look at him.

Hailkit looked at Poppykit, swatting her gently. ``Stop being a fraidymouse!``
