─── MOTHSIGHT.
    lyrics
    redwoodclan med cat she-cat
    mentions/tags; owlpaw

Mothsight's expression pinches a bit as Owlpaw ducks back. Something must really be wrong for her apprentice to be acting like this; she wracks her brain for anything that could possibly be the matter. When he speaks, she has to strain her ears slightly to listen, but her heart breaks slightly for her apprentice as she listens. No wonder he's been a bit slower than usual - he's exhausted and trying to act like he isn't. Her first instinct is to scold him and she has to bite back on it: if he was having issues, it was always better to talk about it before it came debilitating. She supposes, at least, he is bringing it up to her now before he just completely collapsed in the den. She doesn't know how anyone would've handled that, and she thanks StarClan that he's at least telling her now.

Mothsight listens as he talks, and she eases back into a sitting position as she listens. Something tight curls into her chest as she listens - my dreams are all... even when I'm awake, the same visions... they don't... change. They... they stay the same. Every night. Every day. She sends a tiny prayer to StarClan to not let it be a bad omen like her apprentice fears. (it wouldn't be fair for him to be the bearer of bad news; it would destroy the progress he's made with his paranoia and anxieties.) A larger part of her, even if in denial, wants to brush it to the side as Owlpaw's anxieties.

"Owlpaw," she says firmly, leveling her apprentice with a stern-concerned look. She waits until he briefly meets her eyes, and she continues, careful to keep her voice low to where only Owlpaw could hear her. Comforting him should come first. "If this does come to be a sign from StarClan, that does not make you the prophet of something bad." She scowls, turning to the side as she thinks, trying to roll the words around in her head and pick what she says carefully. "Knowing ahead of time - even with bad omens - can save more lives than you would ever know." If they had had a sign from StarClan, a way of knowing that the greencough outbreak was coming, maybe so many lives wouldn't have been lost. She's been a medicine cat long enough to know when to rationalize that sometimes StarClan just has their reasons, and won't share said reasons with them, but that doesn't mean it's not annoying. Death is natural, and it just simply means that her clanmates are no longer on the same worldly plane as them, but a heads up would have still been nice.

Mothsight sighs, shaking her head. "We will move forward with this as you want." Owlpaw's nightmares aren't typically this consistent, and some small part of her screams that her apprentice may be having visions from StarClan, but her main priority is to comfort Owlpaw and see what he thinks on it. (her main hope is that these are just vivid day- and night-terrors plaguing her apprentice; an issue in and of itself, but selfishly easier to handle.) "If you want to share the... visions, you are more than welcome to. We can keep it between us for now, if you would like." She flicks her ear toward Crystalmoon and Riverpaw. "If you would feel more comfortable, we can leave camp. But whatever happens would never be your fault."

─── FISHSTRIKE.
    lyrics
    redwoodclan warrior tom
    mentions/tags; moonstream

Fishstrike relaxes slightly when Moonstream says she thinks that everything's alright, but feels his expression pinching together at her next sentence. She felt someone watching her?

"Perhaps that's all it was," he says, dipping his head. "Being tired can do that to you." He glances down at the thrush on the forest floor and then back at Moonstream. "I was about to head out myself," Fishstrike tells her, relaxed enough now to sit down in front of the younger warrior. "Would you like to join me? I'll be near the fishpond. There may be some other prey near the training grounds." He would be nearby in case anything happened, which he thinks but doesn't verbally add.

It's better to be alert than dead, their mother says, and it takes every single drop of impulse control Trix has gathered over the moons to not mock Swan. And it's not like she's wrong! Yes - it is better to be alert than dead, but Trix has no issue talking themself out of sticky situations! They do it, like, once a moon with those clan cats. They're a professional at it.

Also, no offense to the scaredy-kit in front of them, but that's a kittypet who's probably outside for the first time ever. Why in the forest would Trix be scared of her?

At Swan's pestering questions, Trix rolls her eyes. She opens her mouth, ready to response, but the kittypet cuts in over them. "Calypso?" they ask, head tilted. "I like your name!" Trix sits down, tail lashing the ground it rests on, and their eyes brighten. "Nope! Not like those clan cats at all," they promise, grinning. He tilts his head. "They stick within their borders and act like there's ants in their pelt whenever you cross it." Honestly! They don't own the whole forest. There's too few of them to constantly enforce their silly borders, anyway.

"We," they say, leaning slightly toward their mother at this point, "do our own thing!" They know about kittypets, of course - their father and brother are ones, but at least Jasper seems vaguely interested in being outside. Or, at least, he is whenever Swan is around. Trix's brother, on the other paw, will lay in an open patch of sunshine inside when the door is wide open. Trix will never understand their littermate. Ever. "We sleep outside and hunt our own food, but we don't follow all their silly rules."

It's not like Trix had never not been a kittypet - they were almost raised as one, before they decided they didn't want the same life as their brother and father. They preferred being able to run around and do their own thing, including constantly messing with the clan cats.
