the young apprentice followed her mentor to the mouth of the den, sitting down beside the golden she cat and listening to the leader speak. her head turned to breezerain as sandstar announced him as the new deputy of their clan. cinnamonpaw's ears twitched with envy, and her eyes narrowed slightly. why can't that be me? she wondered with a quiet sigh of frustration. why did it have to be me who was burdened with this stupid leg? i wanted to be a warrior more than any cat!

goldenpool picked up on her apprentice's frustration. "cinnamonpaw?" she asked. "you know, there are more ways to help your clan than to be a warrior."

the apprentice hardly heard her mentor. the envy she felt towards breezerain slowly crumbled into a gnawing frustration and a sadness that clung to her heart. "but i wanted to be a warrior so badly.." she whispered quietly, her ears dropping to the sides of her head. "it's not fair.." cinnamonpaw sniffed and rose to her paws, turning around and disappearing into the medicine den. "it's not fair.." she whispered again, so quietly it was hard to pick up.

goldenpaw followed her. "cinnamonpaw?" she said, gently running her long, bushy tail comfortingly down her apprentices back. "it's ok. i'm sure starclan will re-incarnate you. sometimes, we don't always get what we want - but I know that a cat as noble and caring as you deserves a second life when you finally go to starclan."

Sandstar stretched out, the cool air on his pelt blowing back his thick fur. He smiled slightly - it had been seven moons since he appointed his deputy and so far it was going well.

Goldenpool was already awake. She was sorting herbs, and noting which they needed more of.

the she cat remained curled up in her nest, despite being awake. she didn't like leaving the medicine den to see all the warrior apprentices leave for training. although she was seven moons older, she still felt a fiery jealousy when she saw the other apprentices. cinnamonpaw lay glaring at the wall, thinking back to the previous night's dream. even in the dreamland, she was being teased for her injured leg. the fae had been perfectly healthy, running through the forest with her mentor towards the training clearing where they would do some battle training. she would be lying if she said goldenpool wasn't a good mentor, because she was. she was kind and understanding and new very well that cinnamonpaw did not enjoy what she was doing. the she cat heavily disliked the life of a medicine cat, but she had no choice if she wanted to continue serving her clan. it's not fair.
