Tears of rage filled Bay's eyes as he lay pinned to the ground by Alika. She let him up to tend to the injured pup, who she took gently in her mouth after clearing her sides of blood. He stood, shaking and hissing, trying to think of something to say. He finally spat after her, "I hope she dies, Alika! I HOPE THAT SCURGE DIES!" The shepherd began to pace small circles where he stood, cursing to himself like a madman. Then he had another thought and looked back to her while she walked away. She wasn't listening, but he didn't care. "AND I HOPE YOUR CHILDREN KILL YOU, TOO!"
Bay's head fell as his voice cracked, his anger dissolving into heavy sobs. He tried to stand and walk away, but he couldn't see through the heavy flow of tears and instead stumbled around for a few paces before throwing himself pathetically to the ground. He screamed; it was impossible to tell whether it was of sadness or anger, but it carried his intense emotion and echoed, amplifying the sound against the crumbled walls of the buildings around him.
He lay there on his back, unable to stop crying or to clear his mind of the thoughts that were bombarding it. Everything he had known was gone, and Alika was right, he could never be part of the group ever again. Overwhelmed with his own sorry state he screamed again, babbling words of hatred and anger at the others that he knew stood a few feet away, willing one of them to come and send him away to the heavens so he could be with his mate. He wanted to die right there with the maggots. But no one came, and after a few minutes he couldn't take it. "COME ON!" he cried, "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU ALL?" Through his sobs he continued, but in a different tone, so quiet the others could no longer hear. "I just can't take this any longer."
