Cherrypaw
shecat - apprentice - location: camp - eight moons - tags: none
cherrypaw sat in front of the apprentice's den, licking her paw before wiping it behind her ear. she had only woken up moments ago, but her eyes had already adjusted to the bright, morning sun that poured across pineclan camp. after she had finished cleaning behind her ears, she started to pick small clumps of moss that loosely clung to her fur and spitting the bits she pulled out onto the earth next to her. although the day was yet to fully start, and the dawn patrol hadn't even returned to camp, cherrypaw could sense a long day was awaiting her and her clanmates. things in the clan were uneasy, though she had only noticed that after she became an apprentice. as a kit she could sense the fear that lingered on her mother, or the constant unease that her father had; but at first she was always certain they were only scared for her health, being the runt and all. only after earning her apprentice name and receiving her mentor had she realized there had been more to put her parents on edge than just a runt. perhaps, if she hadn't recovered as quickly as she had, she would've had a different fate than her current one, judging by how things were currently being run.
the she-cat's ears pricked as she heard eaglestar's call, turning her head to the highstone where the pineclan leader sat. just looking at the leader made her pelt bristle. she rose to her paws and drew closer to the highstone, managing to keep her fur close to her pelt and not letting it bristle. she had heard mews of disapproval almost daily, yet it seemed everycat was too scared to actually start an uprising. sure, she didn't have good opinions on the leader either, but surely if eaglestar were that bad starclan would've intervened. she could smell various cats returning from the dawn patrol, and turned her head to see that the patrol had been entering camp. after eaglestar had made the announcement addressing the loners, cherrypaw was surprised. she was sure that the leader's rule had managed to drive out any cat foolish enough to stay within pineclan's reach, but she didn't question it too much. surely by next moon they'll all be chased off or dead. but the thought of killing loners made cherrypaw shift her paws. of course she hated the idea of cats on pineclan territory stealing prey just for themselves and nobody else, but life was a precious thing, why did they have the right to tear it away purposefully? she darted her attention back to the leader at the mention of the apprentices. as eaglestar finished her announcement to the apprentices and paused for a moment, cherrypaw felt the words sink in like a snake's venom. the look in eaglestar's eyes alone made her sink into her spot, wanting nothing more than the dreadful moment to end. after eaglestar dismissed the clan, cherrypaw pulled herself away from the highstone as quickly as possible to a shaded part in camp. her mind pulsed with questions of what eaglestar would teach the apprentices on patrol. she had to reassure herself multiple times that the leader wouldn't harm all of the apprentices, and she probably just wanted to make sure they understood the power she held, or something like that.
Nightclaw

after eaglestar had finished her speech, nightclaw drew away from the highstone towards the exit to camp. he figured he could train thymepaw after eaglestar had talked to the apprentices, he would hate to distract the apprentice and have them end up answering to eaglestar, only starclan knew what would happen to the apprentice. as he pushed his way through the brush into the forest, he flicked his ears before listening for any prey hopping along the forest floor. after a few moments of silence, he figured he would just have to sniff a mouse or bird out. he remembered to keep a look out for any loners, calling his mind back to eaglestar's speech about their scent on the borders. he had to work his way around the scent of the returning dawn patrol and managed to sniff out a mouse. it wasn't the best prey but it would have to do, he didn't want to make his small hunting trip into a long one, after all.
