xxxxxxthe she-cat had been up before dawn, her pond green eyes glinting in the faint late-summer morning glow. spiritrose could tell it was late-summer, by how the dew seemed to rest on the leaves every dawn, and how the oak leaves seemed to turn yellow before the other leaves. the deputy loved the cool breeze that ruffled her pelt as she stepped out of her den, a small, blissful purr making its way from her throat. spiritrose settled down on the dew-filled earth and began grooming herself. grooming was one of the musts in her morning routine, next to waiting for her siblings to wake up shortly after her. or maybe foxstar would be up before they do, the deputy thought to herself as a small smile made its way to her maw. she had been fond of the leader, more likely amazed at how productive foxstar was.

palepaw allowed her eyes to flicker open as the luminous rays of sunlight shimmered in through the den opening. she groaned under her breath as she realized it was probably time for her to wake up, and she shifted slightly in the soft nest bedding that she slept in every night. i need to replace my moss soon, the young, dappled shecat thought. it's getting flat again. she sighed lightly and began to stand up, stretching her legs as she did. she began to walk through the den entrance, careful not to step on her brother, the only other apprentice in the clan at the time. she winced as she grazed the tips of his fur with her back leg, praying to starclan he hadn't awoken. he didn't. she sighed with relief. palepaw padded outside to see the deputy of the clan, spiritrose, up and about. the blue-eyed apprentice only recognized her because of her blurry, frosty-white form. she made her way over to the snowy-furred shecat and sat down next to her, bowing her head as a sign of respect. "good morning, spiritrose. how was your rest?" palepaw asked with a gentle smile.

the ice-furred tom slept gently through the night, disturbed not once by a single thing. if there was one good thing about being one of two apprentices in the entire clan, it was that you didn't have to deal with annoying furballs crawling over you ever single morning and tripping to cause your wakeup. sure, his sister, palepaw, occasionally did, but it wasn't a lot. even so, he wouldn't have let her know that. he felt guilty about the death of their parents ever since he was a kit and knew that she had been avoiding him because of it, so he knew making her feel bad over little things would make her even more upset. he couldn't sacrifice the tiny relationship that they did have. he felt as her paw grazed the tips of his short white fur and nearly snorted before remembering what he'd just been thinking about. just go back to sleep... he thought to himself.

the fluffy, sleek-furred grey and silver-cream calico sat up in her nest, her chest heaving lightly after another nightmare. she hadn't been having them recently, but they were beginning to resurface and she wasn't happy. raindapple hadn't had nightmares like that since she was an apprentice. deciding to rid her mind of the images that plagued her in her sleep, raindapple stepped out of the warrior's den and into the clearing, letting the light morning heat warm up her usually-cold fur. she perked her ears as she heard someone approaching and turned to see ravenwatcher, giving the dark-furred tom a warm smile. "good morning,
ravenwatcher. i'm doing well, how are you?" she said after bowing her head, using her usual good manners.

palepaw smiled softly as she felt the sunlight shimmering down onto her dappled fur. warmth was always welcome to her, as she was generally quiet cold-blooded. the young apprentice was beginning to feel her energy returning- she'd communicated with her mother's spirit three days prior and was still feeling a bit drained from it. she looked over around the clearing before returning her gaze to spiritrose. it's going alright. i'm still tired. this power... it's hard to manage." she said, shifting her paws and flattening her ears temporarily to show her distress. "seeing my mother was hard but i thought i was going crazy... i bet moonstep nearly lost it when i didn't wake up for an entire day and night." she muttered. she looked back up at spiritrose, listening to the deputy. "ah, that's nice. i can't wait until autumn, it's definitely my favorite. especially when the temperature lowers just a slight bit and the leaves change color." palepaw said with a light smile, thinking of autumn. she was not even a full year old, and had been through one season of autumn in her life, but she adored it.

"well i hope your mother is alright. tell her i said hi next time. and yes, moonstep was pretty bummed that you didn't wake up to sort the herbs for her." spiritrose hadn't experienced the power, but the deputy was pretty sure she was content with what she had been given. "being able to talk to our ancestors in starclan must be fascinating," she began with a small smile. "it must be awesome to meet all of our deceased warriors who are running with the stars and looking down upon us." at the mention of autumn, she brightened up. "i like sitting out here when it's autumn. i normally watch the leaves and note how the color changes in each branch. i do that every morning, and it's a fascinating transition to watch it grow yellow, then slowly watch the leaves fall from its branches."

"i used to dream of my former best-friend and my first love starting a family together. it wasn't the fact that she chose me over him haunts me, it was the look on her face when she realized i was there. guessed she wasn't as loyal as i thought."

Swifmask awkwardly smiled, mentally reminding himself to not talk to Creamflower in the morning. Too much cheerfulness in the morning just didn't feel right. "So what are you planning on doing today?"

Moonstep yawned when she noticed Palepaw talking to the deputy. She was glad had accepted Palepaw as her apprentice even though she was still young. Though hanging out with the former medicine cat was great, she liked the similar range of age, making it easy to talk to her. "Palepaw, let's go collect some herbs. We should gather as much as we can before leaffall kills them all."
