Jael felt something crunch underneath her large paw; a stick, perhaps. The small snap, however, caused her to jump and prick her ears. A moment later she looked down, a little embarassed. How had she, a tiger who had been fearless, turn into such a coward? Although she knew the answer, Jael simply heaved a heavy sigh and continued walking. These hunters changed my entire life, she thought. I never used to be this way; heck, I used to have a family. At that thought, the young tiger's ears drew back and she extended her long claws. She pushed them into the soil beneath her paws, ripping right through the grass along the way. It was a habit Jael had picked up as a cub, a nervous one that she just couldn't seem to drop. She lowered her head and closed her eyes momentarily, trying to push the thoughts of her cub and her mate aside. At first, it didn't work, but soon their images had faded from her mind and her eyes were once again opened. It was these moments that Jael wondered if things would have been better if it had been her who had been taken away and killed, not her family. She continued walking after a moment, however, and chose that moment to sniff the air with slightly narrowed eyes. She could still smell them. Whoever it was, they were nearby.
The previous night, Jael had been stalking through the jungle, in search for food. She'd been sniffing the air when she'd caught scent of another tiger in the area. And they hadn't been very far, either. So, she'd quickly abandoned her quest for a bite to eat and had gone off to look for them. Jael hadn't seen another tiger in months. Plus, she'd wanted a little company; she had had a feeling that the other tiger had been running from the hunters as well. Who wasn't, these days?
And that was exactly what the young female was doing now; searching for the other tiger. They hadn't been very far, judging by their scent. This only made Jael even more excited about the prospect of meeting them. Perhaps they knew of a safer place? A place where they could be free from the fear of being killed by the hunters. Jael could only hope that was the case.

Jaye felt a small, almost inaudible sigh escape him. He shivered slightly as a cold gust of wind hit him, causing his fur to flutter around. If only he had a longer pelt...with him only being a cub, he had short but fairly soft fur. Although, he'd give up the softness any day for a rough, but warm one that most of the adults he had seen had. Being alone, during those cold nights, was hard on Jaye. He no longer had any parents or siblings to lay next to and warm up with; thinking about this made Jaye look down with narrowed eyes. Why had the hunters done such a thing? Did they have no heart? Did they not think about the consequences of their actions? Jaye had wondered those types of questions ever since his family had been taken away, but he knew he'd never get answers.
As the young cub continued to walk as silently as he could through the jungle, he kept his ears held high. He had learned to always keep his eyes peeled and his ears up. And it was because of this that he stopped walking; he had heard something. No. Not something. Someone. Someone walking; someone with paws, it sounded like. Jaye smelled the air, then his eyes widened. It was a tiger, he could tell. Jaye slowly took a step forward, hesitantly. He was wondering whether or not he should go see who it was. Then again, they could be dangerous...Jaye sighed. It was worth a shot, wasn't it? With a small shrug, he walked forward, following the sound of their footsteps.
