Title: The Detour NotebookGenre: Road Trip / Coming-of-Age / Mystery (light)
Setting: Present day, small towns and backroads across the country
Tone: Wholesome, introspective, sometimes funny, sometimes deep
Players: Two characters 18+ on a shared journey, each with their own reasons for being there
Plot Summary:Two near-strangers are thrown together on a last-minute road trip when they discover they both knew the same person—Eli, a mutual friend who recently passed away. After the funeral, one of them finds something left behind:
A beat-up notebook labeled “For the Roads Not Taken.”
Inside, Eli had written down dozens of strange little destinations across the country—places they always wanted to visit but never did: “The diner that claims to make the best grilled cheese in Nebraska,” “The mural with the hidden message in Austin,” “That one bookstore where the cat picks your book.”
Now, for different personal reasons—grief, curiosity, closure, maybe even guilt—the two of you decide to follow the notebook and complete Eli’s unfinished journey. No magic, no ghosts… just a lot of unknown highways, dusty diners, interesting strangers, and self-discovery.
But the further you go, the more you begin to realize:
Eli was trying to tell you something.
As you visit more locations, you start to piece together parts of Eli’s life you didn’t know about—and maybe even things about yourselves...

Name: Juno Hartley
Age: 24
Pronouns: She/Her
Vibe: Golden-retriever energy in human form. Talks fast, laughs loud, always has snacks.
🧡 Personality:Extroverted: Juno makes friends everywhere—from gas station clerks to strangers at rest stops. She fills silence with stories, questions, or bad playlist karaoke.
Her motto is “Try everything once—unless it bites.”
Under all the chatter, she’s incredibly good at reading people—even if she pretends not to be. Picks up on when someone needs a moment.
She notices the small stuff. A change in someone’s tone, a moment of hesitation—she’ll gently follow up later. “Hey, earlier when you went quiet after the diner... you okay?”
Her bag’s always overflowing, her phone’s cracked, and she never finishes her coffee. But somehow, everything she does has this weird charm to it.
She gives compliments like it’s a sport: “You have very trustworthy eyebrows.” “You give off big ‘you’d survive a zombie apocalypse’ energy.”
Her Goofy Quirks:Narrates Mundane Things Dramatically: “And so, the hero approaches the vending machine... unsure if it’ll be pretzels or spicy trail mix.”
Collects Weird Roadside Souvenirs: Not postcards or magnets—think bottle caps, diner napkins with doodles, buttons from lost jackets. She puts them all in an old alfredo jar labeled "The Treasure Pot."
Wears Mismatched Socks On Purpose: Claims it helps keep her creativity “balanced.” When asked to explain, she launches into an entirely made-up sock mythology.
Unfiltered Honesty: If something pops into her head, it’s coming out of her mouth. “That guy’s mustache looks like a sleepy caterpillar.” She means no harm—it’s just pure, raw Juno.🎒 Backstory:Juno knew Eli from a summer internship they did two years ago. It only lasted a few months, but they stayed in touch online, sending each other weird roadside photos and diner reviews. They shared a dream of taking a cross-country trip one day, hitting all the ridiculous spots they could find. When Juno sees Eli’s notebook, she knows—this is the trip they never got to take together.
She didn’t know Eli had other close friends—so meeting the other character (probably someone more introverted or serious?) is a surprise.
🚗 Why She's on This Trip:Partially for Eli—but also because she’s at a weird crossroads in her own life. Her job is just a job, her apartment is tiny and full of plants she keeps forgetting to water, and she’s never stayed in one place long enough to figure out what she really wants.
She sees this as more than just a tribute—maybe it’s a chance to find whatever's next. Or maybe a clue as to what happened To Eli

Alec’s father and Eli’s father were twin brothers, with the two being so close it was only natural their children were also close. They were inseparable it seemed until the age of 12. Alec’s father passed, so at the age of 13 his entire life was changed. He was still close with Eli, but from a distance. His mother moved them back to her hometown to cope with the loss of her husband. Alec always made time for Eli, though they were never as close as they once were. In the last 6 years they had grown apart as their lives changed into adulthood. Alec feels like he’s chasing moments of his past, especially the rode trip. It was a dream trip mentioned as children. Now he’ll do anything not to loose these little pieces of the sibling he never had.
