xxxxA white picket fence surrounded a lush green backyard. This was where she laid with three children on top of her laughing and screaming in delight. Her tail thumped against the soft freshly mowed yard. The children's little fingers stroked her ears and snout as they showered her with affection. The children had just returned home from their music recital, and even though it had been only a couple of hours, they had clearly missed their canine companion.

xxxxTheir cuddle session was interrupted when the human mother called for her children to come inside as it was dinner time. While they were away, the father had fed her dinner. It had been a nice relaxing meal without having to dodge little fingers grabbing at her kibble. The children bounced to their feet and ran straight to the back door, but she lingered in the backyard. She had something else important to do tonight. "Come on, Aileen!" Called the owner, but when she did not budge, the human continued. "Alright, come in when you're ready!" Before she disappeared out of sight of the glass backdoor. The Collie waited a couple minutes and sniffed around the backyard absentmindedly. Once she knew the humans would not be coming back for her until at least after dinner was eaten, she ran toward the fence before clearing it and making it to the other side.

xxxxWith her collar jingling, she trotted down the sidewalk and made her way to the beach. Normally, she would be heading in a different direction, but she was not going to a normal pack meeting today. This meeting was with a different group of canines. They were considered the in-between group of both the packs. This is where both house dogs and strays can come together and talk peacefully without any risk of harm. Of course, a meeting like this was risky if the alphas of these opposing packs discovered them. So far, they were none the wiser. The meeting was a well-kept secret.

xxxxMinutes later, her paws met with sand. As the sun was setting, there were very few people who still lingered on this beach, and if there were people, their eyes were on the beautiful sunset. She gazed at the beautiful hues in the sky as the sun began to dip into the deep blue water. Trying not to get distracted, the house dog continued to her desired destination: underneath the pier. This is where the group had been meeting for the last couple of weeks. The fae still felt on edge as she made her way over to it. She did not want her cover to be blown. The wrath of Ranger was not something that she cared to experience.

xxxxDipping her head underneath a wooden pole, she was greeted by a few of the other members of the group that had arrived before her. "Good evening." The Collie whispered, dipping her head in greeting. There was no need to whisper as there was no one else that could overhear them, but it almost instinctual to do so. This meeting was supposed to be a secret from the others. She was putting her fur on the line by being here. While she hated to go against her alpha, she knew that this was necessary. He was too hung up on hating the alpha of the strays that he was allowing others to be harmed in the process. He may not see that he was actually hurting others by creating a division between the two packs, but she could. She could not allow this to continue.

xxxxLeaves rustled above the resting Collie mix as she laid underneath a tree. Nirvana could hear her stomach begin to growl, but she decided to ignore it. She would be leaving soon to attend this so-called "peace" meeting between the packs. She vividly remembered when someone asked her how she felt about the packs being so against each other. She admitted that she did not think there should be any resentment between the packs and that they should go about their ways. Of course, she was not being truthful. She was only saying this to win favor with this canine. Due to her answer, she was let in on a valuable secret. This secret was a meeting between various members of both packs. There, they discussed how they could go about ending the feud between house dogs and strays. Who led this meeting? None other than the beta of the strays. Even she had been surprised when she discovered this for herself. It had all started when she noticed other canines slipping out of the pack territory. Being an omega, she really had nothing better to do than speculate why these canines were leaving at the same time every week. One night, she had stopped someone in their tracks to question them. This had led to her being let in on the valuable secret.

xxxxToday was just another one of those peace meetings. Finally, the fae rose to her paws and shook the dirt from her thin body. Quietly, she began to saunter in the direction of the beach where she would find the stray beta and other members from both packs. The information that she received from these meetings were definitely juicy. These juicy secrets could help her rise in the ranks of the strays. Did she care about peace? Not really. She thrived on the conflict that the two packs had against each other. She only came to these meetings for the secrets that she could eventually pass onto the alpha of the strays. Of course, she could not let this peace group in on her own little secret that she was keeping from them. She did not think that they expected her of doing something like that. Since she was a newer edition to the strays, they did not know much about her. She kept up a happy-go-lucky facade. Behind a smiling face, they could not see her true intentions. She was only doing this for herself.

xxxxUpon arriving to the beach, she made her way to the pier where this group held their meeting. It was the perfect location as it was outside both the strays and house dogs domain. She rarely saw any dogs here unless they were with their owners or taking the occasional walk. The fae made her way under the pier to reach the other canines that had arrived before her. Offering a smile to the others, she sat back on her haunches and waited for the beta of the strays to make his appearance. She could not help but examine everyone who was here. She did not know everyone's' names yet, especially the house dogs, so this was a good way to get to know the "traitors" of both packs. She found it remarkable how canines from both packs could come together and discuss how to set aside their differences for one another. In a way, she oddly admired that despite her reasoning for being here.

in spite of the current rivalry between both the house dogs and strays, romeo found hope in the group he'd helped to put together. there was one thing he and the others had in common, and that was that they wished for peace between both packs, to live in harmony with one another. joining these meetings were quite possibly the most "scandalous" thing he'd ever done. each day was the same in their little pack. scavenge and hunt for whatever scraps they could call a meal, have occasional meetings about the current happenings.. the most excitement they had was when a new stray joined the pack which was rare. though he had scored the ranking of "beta", he didn't feel of much use to any of them. however he was just happy to have a place to belong and some dogs who'd have his back. sure, jaeger had never been the most...friendly soul, but he certainly had these dogs' best interests in mind. the alpha provided guidance and enough shelter and food to sustain them and street dogs couldn't have it much better than this. this was high living, as their leader claimed.

romeo never had much of a distaste towards the house dogs no matter how much negativity the alpha tried to fill their heads with. every interaction he'd had with them had been positive, for the most part. a couple of weeks ago he never would have imagined he'd go out of his way to have meetings with them as they did now. in a short time he'd become intrigued with the other's lives, and has shown a great deal of interest to hear all about their lives of lavish and belly rubs. the borzoi made his way out of the sight of their alpha without a hiccup. he followed the same streets and turns he'd been going down these past few weeks. with so much at risk, the dog simply couldn't find the strength to feel secure or safe while sneaking off to these meetings. his lanky figure eventually appeared as he emerged from the twisting alleyways. with a few quick glances over each shoulder he pushed his paws forward. the pier served as the group's hiding spot, for now at least. romeo strolled hurriedly across the sand before ducking into their meeting area. finally, he could breath. as grateful as he was to be a part of their little group, it almost seemed like a burden to know of such affairs.

the golden light beamed through the breaks in the wood above them. the strays stood out like a sore thumb, instead of their coats shining in the sunlight and silky smooth like the other well-groomed dogs, their coats were littered with leaves and dirt. the borzoi was more than embarrassed at their first meetings, but the pets weren't far off from standing out with their flashy collars decorating their necks. their differences were clear, but they'd already bonded over their similarities, especially those concerning the different packs. his nose twitched while he surveyed the other dogs arriving. it'd been long past romeo's last meal, but he could smell the food fresh on their muzzles. the aromas tickled his nose. it was nice being "off duty" here with these dogs who didn't quite know what his status was. romeo wasn't known for his openness, but he tried to let loose a little around them. usually speaking to a group of more than two entailed a speech or announcement that jaeger asked of him. their meetings had a purpose behind them, but he found it to be more casual than the regular pack meetings.

with the final canine joining them, he took a seat in the sand. they were in the clear now, so he needn't worry as much. still, he remained a little on edge. there was so much he could lose by joining them here. romeo's focused bounced from dog to dog, until he spoke up at last. "it's nice to see you could all make it, how's everyone doing?" he liked to start by catching up on each other's personal happenings before moving to whatever serious pack business or plans they needed to address. the pets' news from their households were almost always exciting to hear. families getting them accessories, children playing games with them, new arrivals in their dog park. romeo couldn't deny that he wanted to know more about their lives. humans seemed interesting, to say the least.

xxxxWhen their group leader joined them, Aileen gave a small wag of her tail and a nod in greeting. There were hush whispers shared between the members as they waited for everyone to arrive. Thankfully, it did not take too long for the last canine to arrive. The collie watched as Romeo sat back and asked them all how they were doing. She listened as a couple of canines spoke about their day. When there was a small pause, she took the opportunity to speak. "Wonderful. My little humans were overjoyed to see me after they came home from their school activity. They were all over me giving me kisses." She recalled, a smile pulling at her maw. She adored the little humans that she lived with. They used to pull on her tail and ears, but as they grew older, they learned not to do that. The adult humans had told them that pulling her ears and tail caused her pain, and they understood.

xxxx"I don't know if you know what school is, but it is a place where adult humans teach the young humans about survival." She added, wanting the strays to understand what school was instead of leaving them confused. She assumed most of the other house dogs knew what school was, if they had children, that is. She could not imagine a household without children in it. They brought her so much joy, and she was good at watching them. If another animal or unfamiliar human came too close to the little humans, she would stand between them and stare approaching figure down. She would not allow harm to come to them.

xxxx"And how was your day, Romeo?" She questioned, tilting her head to the side. She understood that her life was much different than what the strays experienced. They did not have the luxury of shelter and food on a daily basis. Truthfully, she saw the strays as much stronger than she was. They knew how to survive while she could not imagine spending a night on the streets. Not only that, but she could not bare to be away from her humans. She knew how sad they would be if they thought that she had ran away. She would also be incredibly sad if she did not have her little humans. Every night, she slept in the eldest daughter's room all cuddled up in her little bed; it was the only bed that she could fit in as the other children's beds were far too small.

A quiet sigh escaped the schnauzer as he laid in his bed, tilting his head to gaze out the nearby window. The sun was slowly sinking in the sky, announcing its departure. This also meant it was dinner time for his humans. Rising to his paws he trotted toward the kitchen, though he stopped just outside the entrance to the room. His dark brown gaze followed the female inside, watching intently as she prepared the food for her family. Most of the time it was only himself, the female human and the male one. But tonight was going to be different, he could tell from the lovely fragrance of roast beef and mashed potatoes, along with many other scents that blended together into a heavenly aroma. Hearing a sudden knock on the nearby door, he turned his attention away from the food and trotted towards it. He let out a yip as the knock came again, calling for one of the humans to come answer the door. Humans could be so slow sometimes.

โ€œAlright, Winston! Iโ€™m coming.โ€ The male called as he hurried to the door. Winston took a step back and watched him as he fiddled with the doorknob, before at last it was opened. Joyful shouts rang out through the air, quickly filling the house with excitement. He let out a bark as to get in on the celebration, the newcomers greeting him with pats and hellos. โ€œHey Winston!โ€ โ€œHowโ€™re you doing, boy?โ€ They said as they went by. These were the children he had grown up with, though they hadnโ€™t stayed very long. Winston was always glad to greet them once more though, it never seemed to get old. Upon receiving his final pat, the schnauzer watched as the rest headed away toward the dining room. Theyโ€™d be busy for awhile, an hour or two at least. Which meant that he shouldnโ€™t waste any of it. Trotting away from the chatter of the family, he took the last few bites of his own meal and had a short drink. Now it was time to go.

Heading out the doggie door, Winston made his way down the stairs and made a beeline for the fence. He cast a single glance over his shoulder, before leaping into the air and landing on the short brick wall that surrounded his owner's small garden. Padding along it he made it to where the fence was and placed his paws on it, before pulling himself upon it and pushing off with his hind legs, landing with surprising grace for a canine. Any of the neighboring cats better be paying attention or else they were missing out.

Winston knew he was running a bit behind schedule, but no matter. The other canines were lovely and quite understanding, so he knew there wouldnโ€™t be any problems, at most he might get a look or a snarky comment from one of the others, but as long as he was there that was all that mattered. As he made his way toward the beach, the schnauzer wondered what todayโ€™s meeting would be about. He honestly loved their little chats, especially when they had a beautiful sunset to watch as well. Of course, Winston knew good and well that these little meetings served a purpose beyond his own enjoyment and befriending fellow canines. These meetings were for the peace group. Himself and the rest of his comrades were all coming to discuss their actions and plans to bring peace to both packs. The two had been enemies for quite sometime and things were only going to get worse if something wasnโ€™t done about it. Surely Ranger would understand, once everything was done of course? He knew good and well that he was putting himself on the line by coming to these meetings. Losing his shiny coat was the least of his worries, but he wasnโ€™t sure how far Ranger would go if he happened to catch him or another fellow house dog. Best not to think about it too much.

Surprisingly enough, Winston didnโ€™t really fear the part of escaping from his own home. He quite enjoyed wandering without a leash, even if it was to the exact same place heโ€™d been going to for the past few weeks. He was pleasantly surprised that the group had lasted this long. He had to admit, meeting with the strays had been a peculiar experience, but enjoyable nonetheless. Their ways of life were so much different from his own and he couldnโ€™t help but be curious about it. He knew Ranger would no doubt think he was crazy to think such a thing, but then again plenty of things that he thought were interesting many dogs didnโ€™t hold the same feelings for. In a way, he felt like these dogs understood him more than some of the rest of his fellow house dogs. They all believed in something that the rest did not. And he couldnโ€™t have asked for anyone better.

Winston couldnโ€™t believe he had gotten attached to these dogs so quickly, but then again heโ€™d always been the type to do so. His gaze bounced from the few stray humans that still roamed the beach, to the majestic sunset that was present over the water. What a beautiful scene, he wanted to stop and stare at it until it faded away, but alas there wasnโ€™t time. Trotting through the sand he finally reached the pier at last. He seemed to have arrived just in time, as the rest had not seemed to have begun just yet. โ€œWhy hello, my fellow companions. Lovely evening isnโ€™t it?โ€ He asked as he settled down. Romeo had just begun speaking, asking everyone how they were doing. Ah lovely, a wonderful way to start their own little outing. He shuffled around a bit, trying to get comfortable. Unfortunately, it wasnโ€™t easy to do so among sand of all things. Finally the schnauzer settled down as Aileen began to speak about her day, nodding a tad as he listened. The all sounded lovely indeed. His ears pricked when she questioned Romeo about his own, curious to know more about how strays spent their days. After all, their lives were a lot different from the house dogs lives.

The day was anything but cold, but for Arian the concrete felt like ice. Then again, many things of late felt like ice to the weimaraner. Her ears twitched as she laid just outside an abandoned building, partially in the doorway. As usual she was caught up in her various thoughts, many about the past. Honestly she didnโ€™t know why she spent so much time thinking about things she couldnโ€™t change. Or maybe it was because she wished she could be there again. Arian knew she had changed quite a lot since those days gone by, but as much as she wanted to be like that again, she knew there was no going back. Sometimes she wondered if she really was the dog she thought she was. Maybe sheโ€™d been telling herself a lie all this time and she finally broke out of it. Though she wished she hadnโ€™t. A skittering noise snapped the weimaraner out of her thoughts, causing her eyes to snap straight towards where the sound was coming from. The sound was revealed to be coming from a nearby rat, which always came about this time every day. She had realized she had come to know many strange things, mostly that in which was particularly unhelpful. Knowing what time of day a rat showed up to scavenge for food, wasnโ€™t very helpful in her mind.

The weimaraner soon turned her gaze skyward, seeing that the sun was beginning to set. Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no and no. It couldnโ€™t be that time already. Not now. Not now! She closed her eyes for a moment, shaking her head and reopening them, hoping she was only dreaming. But alas the sun was still there and steadily sinking. Her heart began to pound as she watched the golden disk. She wasnโ€™t ready for this! Then again, sheโ€™d never be ready if she was being honest. Arian was a member of the peace group, though she didnโ€™t exactly know why she had decided to join. Perhaps she had done it because she wanted peace - well that was pretty obvious. More so, she had joined because she thought it would force back her old way of doing things. But if anything, it had only put more stress on her - which wasnโ€™t particularly helpful with trying to keep the whole thing a secret. Jaeger would not be pleased if he found out about the group. Socializing with the house dogs was one of the worst things she could be doing, even worse if she was actually planning things with them.

With a shaky breath the weimaraner slowly rose to her paws, forcing herself to trot quickly down the many twisting alleyways. She wanted peace just as much as the next dog in the group, but she didnโ€™t know how much longer she could put up with this. Just sneaking away from the group made her stomach churn, though she knew that fellow strays would also be there. Including the beta. She felt a lot better with Romeo being there, though she couldnโ€™t imagine the punishment heโ€™d receive if Jaeger found out his most trusted canine was a traitor. She couldnโ€™t shake the feeling of something going terribly wrong, but then again she was always that way nowadays.

Soon enough the canine finally scented the salty tang of the ocean, which meant she was nearing her destination at last. She quickened her pace, her anxiety only edging away for a moment before she noticed the occasional stray human alongside their dog. They were nothing to worry about. Unless they were somehow connected to a group who wanted to take down the peace group, everything would be fine. Blinking, she quickened her pace and before long was nearing the pier. Finally. Things were going to be okay, so long as this meeting went as planned.

Settling down in the sand, she let out a heavy breath. Her heart was still racing, but it would relax soon enough. She rested her head on her paws as she closed her eyes for a moment, hoping to quiet her mind before the meeting began. A few moments later a voice broke the otherwise quietness of the place, broken by the familiar voice of Romeo. She merely flinched at it though quickly relaxed otherwise. With the beta here, nothing too bad would go wrong right? Right. She raised her head a little, letting her tail sway slowly. For now sheโ€™d simply listen to the rest chat among themselves. She wasnโ€™t the best at social events anyway, as she grew quite nervous during them and often had trouble speaking properly. Or maybe that was due to something else. She really needed to stop questioning herself so much.

male | five years | borzoi | beta stray | tags;; peace group
the borzoi kicked at his ear nonchalantly, brushing off the dirt from deep within his silky coat. this was one of the many problems that the house dog's never had to endure. fleas and mud tangled into their hair was never a problem, which always surprised the stray. he couldn't be quite sure how they were so polished, even if they were in the house most of the day. rolling in the grass was just too good of an opportunity to pass up on. it wouldn't be much of a shock if he found that the humans helped them stay clean along with everything else they provided. he turned his snout away as another pet dog neared him, once again smelling the remains of what they'd had for dinner lingering on their whiskers. his weight shifted forward as a voice rung in his ears. it was one of the pets, a rough collie named aileen who was answering his question.

the borzoi's interest pinged in her direction. kisses.. hmm. he hadn't ever had the opportunity to interact with the small humans, but they seemed to be just as enthused with the house dogs as the others- from what he'd gathered. tapping his tail a little, he watched the collie's eyes light up. these humans were so special to the dogs, he never quite understood their bond. as she went on, his confusion only grew more. didn't they have dams and sires to teach them rather than this.. "school"? many of the pet's mentionings were foreign to him. the beta carefully resisted scrunching up the muscles in his face, not wanting to appear as dumb-founded as he felt. she'd moved on from the subject like it was nothing. finally he shook himself out of his thoughts to answer the collie.

"i''ve been exploring a little more, when i can. oh, i saw there's new construction down the street!" he motioned slightly with his head. "i hung out around there for a while, not sure what they're gonna make. any news from your pack?"

as much as he wanted to get a look around the entire city, he had a big responsibility as the beta of their pack. he'd explore whenever he got the chance, though. he gazed around at the house dogs to await their answers. whatever he had to tell about himself never seemed quite as interesting as their news.

xxxxWhen Winston made his entrance, Aileen smiled and dipped her head to him. She always felt more comfortable when she saw her fellow pack members. Not that she was afraid of the street dogs, but it was nice to see a familiar face in the small crowd of canines who she did not know very well. "Very lovely, Winston." She responded, her tail wagging.

xxxxShe listened as Romeo explained his day and how he had noticed new construction. "Oh, is it a coffee shop? My human loves those." She spoke, thinking back to her many walks with her owner to the nearby coffee shop. She would always receive a small cup of whip cream while her human had gotten something in a bigger cup. She licked her lips at the memory of the delicious whip cream. Her owner would have to walk her near there some time soon.. she was missing the sweet treat.

xxxxShe hummed at the question from Romeo. There was really nothing new from the pack. "Ranger is becoming agitated.. He is always this way, but more-so than usual. The only thing he really tells us to keep an eye on the strays and make sure they don't wander onto our territory. I think he is looking for any opportunity to start a war. I would be careful not to step on any paws." She responded, her ears tilting back slightly. She understood the tension that the alphas had toward each other, but she did not want to be dragged into a feud that she was not a part of. She was only a pup when Ranger and Jaegar collided.

xxxxThe fae sat back, barely listening to the very boring conversation that her beta and some house pet were having. Where was the juicy information? All they were talking about was their humans and some new human-made structures that she could care less about. She held back a frustrated sigh, but she tried to appear interested in their conversation despite her true feelings toward it. She wanted to hear what the house dogs were saying about their pack, not about their day with their humans.

xxxxNoticing a scavenger from her pack, she slowly rose to her paws to move over to her and sit beside her. "Arian, right?" She asked, with a tilt of her head. Of course, she knew everyone in the pack by now. She was a very observant fae and liked to watch everyone go about their business as she had nothing better to do. She did know that this fae was a bit skittish and tend to keep to herself. Did she have some deep dark secret that she was hiding from everyone? Knowing her luck, probably not, but she always wished for something a bit more exciting to happen. Still, she would like to get to know this fae a bit more.

xxxxHer ears perked when the name of "Ranger" met her ears. Now they were on to something. She kept her attention on Arian, but she listened closely to the smooth collie as she spoke about her alpha. An opportunity to start a war, huh? She wished there was something a bit more that Aileen could tell them, but it seemed like that was all she had. She was good at not stepping on paws, but on the other paw, she knew how to do exactly that when she wanted to. A war was what she needed.
