xxxxSinclair was a long way from home. He had watched his owner put so many of their belongings in boxes, and this extended to over a week of this happening. The previous day she had put away all of his toys, bandanas, bowties, and other cute accessories into a box. He had tried to grab some of his toys, and after several attempts of putting them back into the box, she relented and allowed him to have some toys out. They were his utmost favorites of all his toys, and he could not bear to see them put away into some stuffy box. He had five toys scattered around him in the front seat of the car. He and his owner had left late last night on their journey to whatever destination they were going to. He had no idea what was in store for him, but he had a feeling that they would not be going back home.
xxxxAfter what seemed like hours on the road, he felt the car come to a stop. He lifted his head to see that it was now daylight out. As he looked through the front window, he saw a cute little house on a large land of property. Looking at the new scenery, he noticed several animals that were definitely not canines. There were chickens, sheep, and all sorts of things that he had never seen before. Moments later, he heard barking and a canine approaching them. She was a large canine with a thick coat of fur, and she did not seem happy with intruders on her property. However, the canine was soon silenced as a woman left the house and rushed over to the car. That was when his owner stepped out of the car and hugged the other woman. Who was this woman? Why was his owner hugging and kissing her? He did not know this other human! Keeping an eye on the other dog, he jumped over to the driver's side of the car to jump out and greet this canine.
xxxx"Hello, my name is Sinclair. Where.. am I?" He questioned, his large snout lifting as he took in the different smells. He had never smelled this kind of scent before. There was so much space to run, and he felt overwhelmed. What were they doing here?

xxxxBonnie was doing her morning patrol around the pasture. She walked near the sheep, keeping an eye on them and the forest not too far from their property. She knew of the monsters that lurked within the forest, and she was here to stop them. The canine wore a thick leather collar with spikes to keep her neck protected from predators that tried to take any of the farm animals. They were her responsibility, and she took her job very seriously. There had been times where she had to fight off a wolf and some coyotes as well. The collar had protected her life in many of those situations. Without it, she would be a lot worst off than the bites she had received in the past. She had the scars to prove her efforts in protecting the livestock on the farm. Most were along her body which was hidden by long thick fur.
xxxxHer attention was caught by an unfamiliar car pulling up onto their property. Immediately, she made her way over to it while barking to show they were not welcomed. However, she was soon stopped when her owner came out of the door. She paused in her barking and simply watched the scene unfold in front of her. She had not been aware that they would be having guests. She remained alert and cautious, especially when spotting another canine in the car. This long canine hopped out of the car to introduce himself. "Bonnie. You're standing on our property. This is our farm." She responded in a huff, her attention diverting from the Borzoi to look at the livestock once more.

xxxxxSeeing the two females, ๐๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ด๐ผ๐
stood tall and puffed out his chest a little bit. However, he immediately deflated at the words from the border collie. His.. new den? Prepared a nest for him? These country dogs spoke differently than he was used to in the city. He lowered his head slightly, ears tilting back as he took in the shocking news. He wanted to go back to his apartment in the city. It was loud and cramped, but it was home. This.. this was not home. The smells were unfamiliar, and he had never seen animals like this before. He did not know what they were used for. Were they also pets? They were definitely odd looking.
xxxxxThe male cleared his throat awkwardly. "Ah, I see.." He murmured, trying to appear like he was not worried in the slightest. Key word being "trying." He was failing in his attempt to be nonchalant and calm about this whole situation. He glanced back at his owner who was speaking excitedly to the other woman. It was like he was not even here! Thankfully, she did turn to look at him.
xxxxx"Play nice with your new friends, Sin." She said, rubbing behind his ears. With that, she started to grab some of their belongings, and with help from the other woman, they brought it inside their new "den."
xxxxx๐ต๐๐๐๐ผ๐ธ moved a little closer to the pair when Artemis introduced her to the new dog. Leaning forward, she started to sniff the other canine. He had an odd scent on his fur. Crinkling her nose, she leaned her head back. Before she could say anything, she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. She noticed a large figure approaching one of their many cows grazing in the fields. "Wolf." She snarled, taking off to apprehend this beast. She barked loudly as she approached, trying to scare this wolf away. It definitely alerted the cattle in the field. They began to move in the opposite direction from where she was coming.
xxxxx"W-wolf?" The borzoi whined, eyes widening as he watched the large shepherd take off toward a fairly large canine-looking animal. "Is she really running toward it?" He questioned from behind the border collie. Obviously, he had never seen a wolf in the city. He had seen raccoons and rats, but that was about it. Even then, he never interacted with them. They were dirty little beasts. However, they were small, and this wolf was much larger. Sinclair did not move a muscle, simply watching with wide eyes. Oh, he wanted to go home. His owner needed to put their things back inside the car and drive away back to the city.
xxxxxShifting on his paws, he looked down at the collie. "What do we do?" He asked, glancing toward the car with its door now closed then toward the house that his owner had went in. He did not want to look like a complete wimp. If the collie was not here, he would have ran toward the door and begged to be let in. Instead, he stayed frozen in his spot.
xxxxx"Get away from my herd!" The shepherd barked as she started to close the distance between herself and the wolf. She was not going to allow this beast to take one of her cows. He was bold to take on such a large creature. From what she could see, he was the only wolf here. He must be desperate for any kind of food, large or small. Still, he would have to go somewhere else to find food. The animals on this farm were not on this wolf's menu. They were her's to protect.

xxxxxAll Sinclair could do was obey the commands of the border collie. With a nod of his head, he watched as Artemis raced off to join her larger companion. Slowly, he inched closer to the cabin until he was pressed up against the wall. Silently, he watched with wide eyes as the two canines scared off the wolf. From his angle, he could not tell what was happening out there. They were just three blobs. Tilting his head up, he noticed a window was above him. He desperately wanted to go inside.
xxxxxAs Bonnie reached the wolf, she snarled and bared her teeth at him. When he snapped his teeth at her, she jerked her head back as she felt his teeth graze her nose. However, she was not expecting Artemis to get so close. The border collie, like a bat out of hell, slammed into the much larger wolf. She looked alarmed as the wolf bit onto her companion's shoulder. "Artemis!" She exclaimed, rushing forward as the wolf tucked tail and ran off toward the forest. She gave a brief chase before she turned back to her friend. Worried, she trotted closer to the collie to inspect her bloody shoulder; it was not too deep, but he got her good.
xxxxxShe shook off her questions, more focused on the other canine. "Artemis, what were you thinking? I appreciate the help, but you can't be doing this. What if he had grabbed your neck? You don't have the proper tools to take on a wolf. He could have killed you. You were lucky." She scolded the other canine, a frown pulling at her maw. Artemis was supposed to keep the herd together, not take on a wolf like she was supposed to do. Her companion was much smaller than the wolf, even when it was so thin like she had noticed. Briefly, she looked over her shoulder to gaze at the forest. They were growing bolder by the day.
xxxxx"Our owner might have to call a vet out here now." She added, looking back at the border collie. All she received from the fight was the smallest nick on the nose. Her tongue swiped over her nose, tasting the salty blood. "Come on, we need to get you inside." She said, starting to make her way toward the cabin, but she kept close to Artemis' side. Now that the collie was hurt, she did not need another wolf appearing out of the forest to finish the job. While she was worried about her friend, she was also upset with her for putting herself in harm's way. She had protected the herd but at what cost? She would be down for the count for who knows how long. They were a team even though they both performed very different roles. Both roles were essential.
xxxxxWhen Sinclair noticed the two females returning to the cabin, he looked relieved to see they were both, well, alive. He thought they would have been goners for sure. As he approached them, the smell of blood hit his nose. He appeared alarmed as he noticed the injury on the smaller canine's shoulder. "Oh my gosh, are you okay?" He questioned, his eyes wide with shock and worry. He had never seen a canine so injured before. Turning to the door, he hurried up the stairs and started to bark at it to alert the humans inside. A few whines escaped him as he lifted a paw to scratch at the door. Finally, the door opened to reveal the owner of the two other canines. Without a second thought, he rushed into the cabin to find his own human who was sitting on the couch.
xxxxxWhy did you make me come here? It's so scary! He thought as he jumped into her lap. He ignored the small grunt of pain from his human as he threw his body against her. His human stroked his chest, calming him down almost instantly. He tilted his head to gaze over at the door to watch for the other canines. He did not know them very well, but he did worry about the one who had been injured. He was not sure what the humans were going to do about it. Were they going to take another car ride to his vet? Did they have vets out here? To him, this was basically the middle of nowhere. He assumed that they had nothing of the sort.

xxxxxSinclair perked his head up when the injured Border Collie approached him and began to explain how life was on the farm. His ears tilted back at the mention of wild animals. He gave an awkward chuckle at her teasing. "Yeah, I'm not sure about that." He responded, an uncertain smile spreading on his maw. He was definitely not cut off for the life on a farm, especially chasing away wild animals. There was no way he could do that; it would be them doing the chasing and him doing the running away.
xxxxxThe Borzoi hopped off his owner's lap to sit at her feet and look at Artemis. He gave a small nod of his head as he explained that she and Bonnie would protect him. This fae was much smaller than he was, but he believed her when she said that she would protect him. He released a quiet relieved sigh at her words. He knew his owner would protect him, and he wanted to protect her as well. What if one of those wolves tried to attack his owner? He would have no other choice but to help out instead of cowering against the cabin. He did not know that wolves were more scared of humans and would likely flee at the sight of his owner.
xxxxx"Thank you, I appreciate your words." He responded, his smile becoming more genuine. Life here did not seem too great, but at least he was making friends with these new canines. He watched as Bonnie approached him and Artemis.
xxxxx"We will protect you, but you have to learn how to defend yourself too. You're a big canine, and I have heard your breed was used to hunt down wolves. We could use your help with our wolf problem." Bonnie spoke, giving a glance at Artemis. At this point, Sinclair would simply get in the way if he tried to help, but he must have that prey drive deep within him that they must bring out. "We could really use another protector on this farm. The wolves are growing bolder by the day." She added.
xxxxxOnce again, Sinclair's ears tilted back at the words from Bonnie. "Uh, my parents definitely weren't wolf hunters. They were show dogs and trotted around a ring for trophies." He insisted with a faint wag of his tail. He was made for a life of sleeping on the couch all day then release all his energy at dog parks. Now he had a dog park in his own yard! There was so much room to run. He did not have anything close to this back at his apartment. His neighbors would be annoyed by him by simply running down the hallway back and forth. But this.. this was so much room! There were dangers out there, so he would have to be careful. He did not want to run into a wolf. He got into a few scuffles with dominant canines at the dog park, but that was a whole different story.
xxxxxShaking his head slightly, he looked to Artemis. "So, um.. what are they going to do about your wound?" He questioned, looking back at the two owners who were chatting away. They were not going to leave her like this, right? "You do have vets, don't you?" He added with a tilt of his head. The question made Bonnie snort in response to his ridiculous question.

xxxxxSinclair did not notice the annoyed ear flick from Bonnie after his comment about a vet. The Borzoi's head nodded as Artemis explained that they did have a vet, but they would not be going to them this late. He had no idea what a "cutter" was and decided not to ask. He was already overwhelmed by the new experiences that he had hear, and anymore information would go through one ear and out the other. He would learn these canines' odd ways of living. He had met Border Collies at the dog park, but they were city dogs like him. To his knowledge, they did not do the things that Artemis did. While he had never met the breed that Bonnie was, he had met shepherd breeds. They definitely did not live on a farm either. He had met a German Shepherd that worked as a K9 Unit. That was probably the only exciting job that he had heard about. In a way, both of the jobs were similar.. both taking down a bad guy. In Artemis' and Bonnie's case, it was a wolf, but the same principal applied. They really were brave canines.
xxxxxBoth Bonnie and Sinclair fell silent as the two humans rushed to Artemis after they must have realized that she was injured. Sinclair watched with fascination as the humans went to work. His human did his best to help, but she did not have much experience with wrapping wounds. She was a writer, not a vet. He had never received such a wound like Artemis had. The Borzoi made sure to keep his distance, not wanting to get in the way of the humans trying to help Artemis; it looked exhausting.
xxxxxBonnie had laid by the window with her head resting on the window sill. Her gaze was on Artemis and the humans. However, she was lurched to her feet at the sound of a cow. Before she could hear Artemis' words, she was out of the doggie door and racing toward the herd. I'm going to kill that wolf. She thought with a snarl as she hurried over to the cow who was making commotion. Unfortunately, it seemed like she was too late. She paced around the area, head lowered as she picked up a scent. Eventually, she came across blood that must have been from one of the cattle. From the looks of it, it was from one of the calves due to the frantic mother panicking. She had to make sure not to get in the bovine's way, or she would be stomped on by accident.
xxxxxSinclair's eyes grew wide when Artemis mentioned that it was the wolf. Thankfully, he was inside this time. He went over to his human to lay right beside her to seek comfort. He felt a hand stroke along his back. Suddenly, a realization occurred that he had not considered. "Can.. the wolf get in here?" He questioned Artemis, trying to hold back the quivering in his voice. He did not want to wake up to a wolf standing over him with its evil glowing eyes. The city dog released a shaky breath at the thought.
xxxxx"Coward." Bonnie had growled under her breath, gazing off into the forest where the wolf had fled earlier in the day. The canine sat back on her haunches, ears perked and alert. Tonight was going to be a long night, but she would not be going back inside. The wolf may have won this time, but he would not receive another win. She would not allow him to take another calf from them. The whole herd seemed to be on high alert now that a calf had been taken. In a couple of hours, they would settle.
