Personality:: Sophie has built a wall up around her heart to protect herself from being hurt by anyone, she doesn't like to admit it, but her biological parents leaving her left her with a pretty fragile ego. She tends to come off as pretty flirty and confident to make up for the lack of self esteem. As a defense mechanism and to push those away, she can be filled with attitude and sarcasm until that wall is broken down by someone she trusts. She is then super caring and down to earth.

history ;; benji was born to a single mother as an only child. they didn't have a lot of money, so things were a bit limited for them. he was raised alone by her up until he was seven, when she brought her new boyfriend, connor, into their family. benji didn't speak to him much for a few years, even though he began to live with them. eventually, he began to get used to connor but has never called him his father. he addresses him by his first name. he never made friends that would last throughout his school years, always switching between friend groups. during his time in high school, he attempted to make lasting friends, but he never really caught onto it. he often doesn't mind the loneliness, though.

Sophie waltzed into her house around 3 pm that day after not coming home all night for the third time that week. She knew she was about to hear it from her mom but it didn’t really bother her much. She smiled and greeted Finnagan, scooping the cat up in her arms. “Did you miss me little man?” she whispered in a little baby voice that people often used with their pets. “Sophie May! I need you to start telling me when you aren’t coming home and where you are or you won’t be allowed to leave this house again!” her mom barked from the top of the stairs. Sophie heaved a soft sigh as she grabbed a snack, preparing to once again, leave the house “Yeah, okay mom.” she mumbled but in a loud enough voice that she could hear. “I’m going to the library with Cassie!” she yelled, it was a lie. She would never step foot in the library and neither would Cassie, well not unless they were trying to blow off time. She smiled a little at the amusement in the joke, but her mom didn’t need to know that. She pressed a little kiss to the top of Finn’s head before placing him back on the floor. She then slipped out the door and jumped back into Cassie’s car.

benji sighed, resting his head on his hands while he sat at the front desk in the library. he had done more of his work than he had expected to get done (and more than he would have liked) so that left him to begin checking for late fees and such. that was the part he disliked the most about his job. he wasn't sure why either, it just always seemed uninteresting to him. perhaps someone could come in and need help finding a book or he might spot something out of place. sure, it was unlikely since he had just finished up helping out where he could and he had already scanned the library at least three times that day, but there was a chance, right?

he turned to the computer and began clicking and typing where it was needed, internally rolling his eyes at himself for not holding this off for another day. it really only made things worse for him, seeing as he hadn't gotten the chance to eat very much today and it was giving him a headache. but he only had to sit through a little bit longer of his time at the library, so maybe things would start looking a little brighter then.

Sophie wasn’t paying much attention as she rode in her friend’s car, just continued to scroll on her phone before she felt the car slowing down. She looked up, sort of confused as to why they were pulling into the library. “Wait. Why are we here?” she asked, flicking her gaze over to her best friend. “Soph. I told you we were coming here and to tell your mom that.” her friend muttered as she tried to find a good parking spot. “Well, yeah, but I thought that it was just a story.” she said, but she was met with Cassie yelling that she had found a pull through spot. Sophie rolled her eyes gently as they climbed out of the car and walked into the building. As soon as they had pushed open the door, she recognized the guy behind the desk, elbowing Cassie when they had their back to him “That’s the kid I was telling you about. The one that I’m not allowed to associate with.” she mumbled in a low tone, causing her friend to look back at him. “Well, he’s cute. So if you can’t, I will.” the girl joked and received an eye roll from Sophie in return.

benji rubbed his eyes but instantly looked up when he saw the door open. this was what he'd been hoping for. he was about to get up and ask if they needed any assistance before he processed who the people were. he bit his lip and forced himself to keep himself sitting. it could have been any other person in the world, but it was someone he wasn't allowed to associate himself with. just perfect. how was he going to get out of his work now? sure, he probably shouldn't be trying to get out of work, but he couldn't help himself. it got repetitive doing the same thing after a while. he really should see if he was able to get a different job any time soon.

benji kept his eye on the pair that had just walked in. he narrowed his eyes slightly, a bit curious as to why they were even here. from what his mother had told him, they wouldn't be ones to hang around a library of all places. he assumed he should keep an eye on the two, just in case. it's not like there would be too much to destroy in a library, though. right?

Sophie moves away from Cassie, she was looking at romance books which made her want to gag. Instead, she ventured to the Stephen King books, looking over the titles and the plot. She didn’t want to admit it, but it was actually the perfect spot to see him from all the way across the room. Something about him intrigued her, maybe it was because she wasn’t allowed. She averted her gaze and continued to look through the books, trying to recall memories about him from a time ago. All she could remember was that it wasn’t allowed because their parents had a feud with each other. Was that all it was?

She was jarred from her thoughts by her friend wanting to go check out. Part of her wasn’t too eager to go up there, she was nervous. She had never spoken to him before, only saw him from afar. “Uh. You go. I’m going to.. I’m going to look at these a bit more. And then I’ll find you.” Sophie told her with a nod, pretending to look at the books more. She threw a couple glances up towards Benji, biting her lower lip slightly. She wasn’t sure why she felt so uneasy in his company, but she did, and it was weird.

benji looked back down at his work. he didn't want to be seen watching the pair. that would be extremely awkward. he rubbed his temples and leaned back. he closed his eyes for a moment and ran a hand through his hair. he glanced back at the pair talking before looking back over at the computer. he hesitated over the keys before deciding to start filling out a few more things. he yawned, covering his mouth with his hand. he looked again at the women who had walked in earlier. were they even going to read the books here or were they just going to waste his time checking them out? well, either way, it would take him away from the current task at hand. so maybe it could help him out a little. perhaps they'd even make a bit of conversation just to waste a little more time. probably not, considering who sophie was. his mother would disapprove of it, but how would she find out anyways? she wouldn't know unless she was here or if she looked at the cameras from the library, which she wouldn't be allowed to do. so it really didn't matter if he talked to her.

Sophie has finally picked out Pet Semetary from the books, she had seen the movie and maybe it wouldn’t hurt to give reading it a try. She walked, sort of hesitantly, up to desk beside Cassie, letting her friend check out first. She moved her hair to lay nicely, attempting to make herself look nice, maybe receive positive attention from him. She wasn’t sure why she was nervous about being so close to him, nobody would even know right? Besides Cassie, herself, and Benji.. right? She bit the inside of her cheek gently as she set the book down and slid it across to him “Uh.. hi,” she murmured and offered him a kind smile. Then her brain started doing what it usually does, worrying about the what if’s. What if he ignored her? That would be horrendously embarrassing.
