Saros had been awoken from an abrupt jolt forward from the Hogwarts express stopping in its place. The new students seemed to yell excitedly at one another as they rushed for one of the various exits of the train. His olive colored visionaries fluttered open as he sat up running his hand across his coarse chin, before grabbing his bag and joining the rest of the students on the platform. A very considerable sized man stood in front of the large group of students and waited for them to all gather and shouted at those who decided to try and walk off without. Saros chuckled and looked down at the first year who seemed to notice him whispered to his friends who then walked over to him and questioned about his powers. Before answering the kid's question he decided to Apparate ahead landing himself at the large wooden doors of the school. Muttering something along the lines of they can find out eventually. He flicked his porcelain colored wand upward and watched as the doors open, his eyes wandered in awe at the rather rustic themed school. He then began to walk up the stairs to another pair of large wooden doors that had been opened revealing a large row of tables, floating candles, a podium where the headmaster would begin his speech before the feast he was all too familiar with. He watched as some house elves tidy up the area, a bit confused as to where he was supposed to be or where any of the teachers had been. He looked down at the watch that he had adjusted to the right time for once. He then decided he'd find a spot at the professor's table assuming he'd be there rather than with the students. Familiar sounds of the kids echoed down the hall from where he entered they soon began filling in the room. Some had already gone to the tables they sat at every year and others came towards the front with no house to represent. He then looked to the side where some professors began sitting at the table he waved at them politely. One, in particular, had caught his eye for he knew him from the ministry of magic and as the defense against the dark arts teacher. "Professor Lacroix?" He said loud enough for him to hear over the bustle of the students."I'm Saros, Saros Grindelwald." He decided to introduce himself just in case he didn't know who he was "I'll be your assistant this year." He grinned holding out his hand for a hand shake.

      thaddeus lacroix

a small circular object, deep in color sat in front of thaddeus as his gaze fixated on it, his eyes narrowing ever so slightly as he looked at it with a blank expression. its color seemed to swirl around the center, the dark blues and purples mixing into black in a hypnotic way that caused the professor to lean forward slightly, his mind blanking for a few beats as he got lost in its wonders; he didnt know how much time had passed, it felt like forever but he assumed it had only been a minute or so before he finally, reluctantly, pulled his gaze away and came back towards reality. the object was a sort of hypnotic artifact related to the dark arts that he had used many times on other people, whether it be students for educational purposes or much darker circumstances- either way, thaddeus knew enough about it and was skilled enough to be able to pull away from its grips and use it solely as a calming mechanism in times of need, such as now. he gently pushed the dark colored object aside and moved his gaze towards the windows only to see that the sun had began to dip below the horizons, an indication that the new and old students would be arriving at any moment and the sorting would begin and this year there was something else to look forward to- an assistant professor who just so happened to be a grindlewald. thaddeus's fingers curled around the chair he was leaning on as he remembered the moment the headmaster had told him about the descendant of grindlewald, a wizard that sadly refrained from finishing grindlewald's philosophy and work- but that could always be changed with a little influence, a small push in the right direction from the right person. a small mischievous smile pulled at the professors lips as he looked forward to meeting the new professor and carrying out his influential plans, knowing that if he could have a grindlewald as a close ally he would have leverage on many, many people. with his motivation in mind, thaddeus straitened himself upwards and carefully examined his suit and robes, making sure that he looked as pristine as always and turned towards the door.

he gave his black wand a crisp flick as he walked through the door, allowing it to close abruptly behind him and lock; his classroom was never left accessible when he was not there and for good reason- the amount of dark objects his room held was enough to bring down hogwarts and everyone in it with ease- luckily he was the dada professor so no questions were ever asked. thaddeus casually strolled down the corridors, sticking his hands in his pockets as he did so and lazily drawing his eyes back and forth between the paintings moving on the wall- some said their hello's and some said their insults, either way he said nothing in return and continued to stroll past towards the great hall. the new witches and wizards that would be attending were always quite annoying, the lot of them normally being excited about the dada class with great aspirations to be aurors- most of them wouldnt make it that far. thaddeus hummed a small note as he approached the hall, the students behind the castles doors voices carrying all the way through the thick wood and into the halls; with a quick glance down at his watch he decided he couldnt wait any longer without being considerably late and sharply turned to enter the great hall.

the candles overhead were afloat as always, the enchanted ceiling showing the sky changing colors as the sun began to set. thaddeus walked between the long tables and made his way towards the professors table, most of the other teachers already having made it up there and talked among themselves; he preferred to keep to himself and the many of them knew it but there were always those who wished to start conversation with him, which he dreaded. his eyes landed on his own seat, one near the end of the table and in front of the slytherins house table but he failed to see his new assistant anywhere. thaddeus frowned at that but nonetheless kept forward, stepping up on the platform and offering a small smile at one of the professors who waved at him and greeted him hello; he had turned to sit down and watch the kids that were slowly filing in the room when he heard an unfamiliar voice call his name- he was about to roll his eyes and wonder who might have called him but when he turned, he was met with a rather dashing wizard standing behind him. by his accent, thaddeus was led to assume this was the grindlewald and his assumptions were only backed up as the other continued to speak. he smiled a bit, taken aback at the others handsome appearance but had other things to think about besides his features; he would have to be his friend, as much as he hated how friendly he seemed he didnt let it show. thaddeus looked down at saros's hand and reached his own out to shake it, gazing at the other and then pulling away with a small huff. "call me thaddeus." he said and flashed a casual smile at the other. "is this your first time at hogwarts?" he asked, looking to start any sort of conversation between the two before the headmaster walked in and began his speech.

Saros listened carefully Thaddeus had that voice that drew him in. His hand curled around his in a firm handshake before pulling away, "Yes, however, I've read about the school it's quite magnificent... Thaddeus." He paused the name seemed somehow familiar but he shrugged it off and sat down in the large mahogany chair. He looked at all the house colors naming them off to himself as he'd have to get used to calling saying them, as they were quite different from his own. His fingertips ran over the surface of the wooden table it was rough and old. He'd been used to more pristine conditions but the school was ancient, the stories his father had told him about the place only drew him into the school further, making him feel somewhat at home... "I've always been a fan of the defense against the dark arts, might seem odd considering my family name." He chuckled he didn't mind poking fun at his family background considering that's how most people saw him, an evil wizard who'd with a snap of his wand wipe out a family's bloodline instantly. Some wizards also who had been into the dark arts see him as a coward for not carrying it out, he couldn't lie he did possess the power his great grandfather once had, but he couldn't care less. His eyes wandered over to Thaddeus his presence was intimidating but Saros was curious as usual, drawn in by his mysterious self.

"So, if I'm not wrong you got the houses: Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor?" He asked curiously his eyes gazing up at the banners that held the creatures that represent the houses. He had read up on the stories of the old wizards who created Hogwarts it was interesting, to say the least. "What house do you think I'd fit into here?" A casual conversation something he was good at he'd save the more in-depth questions for a later time but for now he was curious about the houses. Sure the students would be asking him questions like that so he'd ask someone who had gone here before what they thought. His eyes wandering over to them some from the green and black colored house started at him he gave a sheepish wave to the group, who'd then look away and whisper to one another. Letting out a soft sigh he looked down the line of professors who sit some older some young. He'd been taking up the opportunity to assist here so he'd be able to go back to his own school and teach there. From a young age, he has always wanted to teach it called to him, wanting to give his family name a better view.

Saros watched as an older professor walked to the front assuming they were the new headmaster he sat forward attentively. The lady waited for everyone to quiet down before she began speaking. She welcomed the newcomers and welcomed back the older students, then she turned back and welcomed himself. Saros stood up and waved the students didn't cheer but they fell silent. After he decided to sit down again the headmaster spoke something sarcastic along the lines of "He don't bite" and he's a "Nice young fella." To which Saros would laugh quietly to himself. He was nice and all but he wasn't afraid to bite given the circumstances. Saros's head turned to see an old hat that sat on the stool another professor stood behind it and motioned for a student to come forth, filled with curiosity Saros leaned forward the hat's raspy voice echoed loudly in the hall. Shouting out the names of the houses of the first year wizards who wore it. It was unique, at his school, you'd wait to be chosen by the wooden carvings to react, and that's how you got sorted. He remembered his first day when the large wooden serpent reacted to him the green gem shined brightly. After the sorting ceremony ended the headmaster would begin the feast, Saros was starving so he helped himself to the various food that spread across the table with a glass of red wine. "What's your favorite topic to discuss in your class?" He asked curiously taking a sip of the wine it's a smooth but rather crisp taste that left his mouth feeling dry after swallowing.

      thaddeus lacroix

thaddeus would be lying if he had said he wasnt expecting more; the new professor that stood before him was undoubtedly good looking and seemed to hold himself with confidence, though he had expected a little more edge to the wizard considering he was a grindlewald. it almost upset him to think that the other held so much natural talent and abilities and he chose to do nothing with them from what he could tell. the lacroix family were known individuals with powerful influence in the ministry and higher ups but their magical talent seemed to lay within the dark arts- without that, they might have been a normal bloodline. thad could only assume saros would have an idea of who he was, his familys name being known among the wizarding community for centuries- he guessed that he might be able to use some of that influence as an advantage towards slowly corrupting saros if need be. the others accent was odd to thaddeus's ears but not an unwelcome one; he dipped his head slightly as the other professor used his first name, as if giving him further permission to do so. saros wasnt wrong, hogwarts was amazing in its own way but he supposed it might seem much more exciting to someone who hadnt been there before; for a brief moment he wondered what Ilvermony was like and how much the two schools might differ. thaddeus lowered himself into the large wooden chair as the professor beside him did the same, straitening his spine and placing his hands in his lap as he looked out over the crowds of teenagers spilling into the grand hall before them. he could pick out faces of his students he knew, some he despised and others he could tolerate; thad wasnt very patient with teenagers or children and found that he didnt particularly love any of his students, but nonetheless he treated them all the same and with respect. thaddeus was pulled from his thoughts as he heard saros begin to speak again, the attempt at a joke falling flat but he spared a light chuckle anyways. "i could say the same for myself, except without the family history bit; when i was in school here it was my favorite subject and still is." he said, sparing a quick glance over at saros as he spoke. the only reason he was a professor at hogwarts was because his parents placed him here, somehow worming their way into hogwarts business and snatching him the position- it was the perfect cover, really; who would expect a defense against the dark arts professor to be involved with the dark arts? thaddeus enjoyed teaching the subject and was content with his position in life at the moment but wondered what might have brought saros here; the grindlewalds were known dark enthusiasts and here was saros, teaching against everything his bloodline was known for and seemed perfectly happy doing so- what was different about him?

thaddeus's eyes trailed from one student to another, watching as they horsed around and the new kids nervously standing up front, chattering away. he never enjoyed the first day back at hogwarts- the sorting ceremony took forever and was quite boring to sit through; he remembered when he was sorted, the hat barely touching his head before shouting slytherin. it was only expected, he had barely worried about not getting sorted into the house, most of the lacroix's were slytherins with the few exceptions of ravenclaws thrown in there. he nodded as saros listed off the houses, seeming to be deep in thought about them. "correct you are- you'll remember the names like the back of your hand soon enough, i'll give you a pass if you happen to forget." thaddeus said in a smooth voice with very slight flirtatious undertones that he doubted the other would even catch on to- it was all a part of his somewhat put together plan.. that he hadnt really finished yet but would figure it out when he got there. at the others question he tilted his head slightly, examining him for a few beats as he wondered just off first impressions where he would fit in. "well, considering your bloodline i would say slytherin- but you seem different from the rest," thaddeus said and raised an eyebrow, trying to figure out what exactly saros was about. "but going off first impressions i would have to say ravenclaw- witty, wise, all of that good stuff." he said with a smile, wanting him to be more like a slytherin, more like himself, but knew that simple wasnt true. he kept that thought tucked in the back of his mind to contemplate at a later time and turned his attention towards the headmaster as she began her speech.

it was the same nonsense every year, the headmaster rambling on about how excited she was for the new year and welcoming all the students before the sorting. thaddeus leaned back in his chair, his finger tapping on the arm rest as he became slightly impatient the longer she talked, but soon enough it was time for the sorting; he noticed how saros leaned forward in his chair, almost in awe at the fact that they had a talking hat that chose their houses for them. he smirked, once again wondering how things worked at the school over in america- by the looks on the professors face it had to be something much less exciting than a talking hat. the sorting went on for what felt like ever until finally it was over, leaving the feast to appear and the headmaster dismissing everybody to eat. thaddeus wasnt particularly hungry but settled on a few small things and a glass of whiskey, humming lightly as he registered saros's question. it was a difficult one, all dark arts being interesting to him but for different reasons that he didnt wish to tell the other about. "thats a difficult choice," he chuckled lightly and turned his head to face the professor as he talked, "i love everything i teach but i do always enjoy the childrens faces when talking about the unforgivable curses- they always quake at the mention of them." he said, a small smirk creeping onto his face. "but i also enjoy talking about breeding magical creatures with the dark arts to create darker and more hostile versions of the creatures." thaddeus explained with a small nod, toning it back a little from his previous darker answer. "and you? what do you like to discuss when talking about the dark arts?" he asked, reciprocating the question back towards saros to continue the conversation.

Saros whirled the last bit of wine in his glass around watching the red liquid swirl before spilling up the sides as he tipped it back to finish it off. His olive orbs lingered on the cup a little longer before looking up to his new friend Thaddeus, listening quietly as he spoke his eyes locked into his. The other chatter drowned out a moment as he focused on him his voice lingered in the back of his mind, he spoke with confidence. He looked away and watched as his glass-topped it's self half way again, was it because he finished his other so quickly? Being pulled back into reality by Thaddeus asking him about his favorite thing about the dark arts he blinked and thought aloud with a soft 'hmm'."Well, I've always enjoyed the creation of new spells." He paused and then lowered his voice, "I've totally never used them to get my own way or anything." He chuckled softly his mind falling back to what he had said about what his favorite thing was curious about what it was all about. "Want to tell me more about yours I've heard about it but I've never got into it."He questioned as time passed he noticed that the students slowly started to leave the area the first years being lead to their house rooms by the prefects. Others stayed longer to talk with their friends Saros was curious about the school and not knowing where most of the things are he looked over to his new friend Thad, "Would you mind showing me around the grounds?" He said with a soft smile after finishing his desert which was well worth the wait. "I'm sure someone who has gone here many years would know all the cool spots?" He inquired with a cocked eyebrow.

Saros had heard many stories of the magnificent school that he now got to stand in himself, despite not going here and probably coming off as weird for wanting to know so much about the school, he couldn't help but feel like a kid in a candy store. So many secret spots, rooms that look small from the outside but are huge on the inside... Even moving stairs? There was so much to take in and Saros couldn't be more excited to do so. It was in the evening also so it'd be a peaceful walk hopefully for Saros to stare in awe at everything that was foreign to him. Saros picked up his bag and hung it around his shoulder before standing up to walk down the steps his head turned towards Thad, "Shall we?" He grinned and started up at Thad.
