to start off, callie is quirky and light-hearted.
she's ambitious and very hard working. she loves
to help out in any way that she can.
callie often feels she's left out of things
and doesn't fit in well, but her mother
says its just that she's getting used to
the new place. callie has a strong love
for poetry, along with nature.
with this, she's creative and anyone
who knows her will understand how smart
and quick to think she is!
she loves all animals, and owns
a big scruffy dog named jack.
callie can be naive at times, and is
quick to turn from someone who has a bad
attitude. she doesn't like to be pushed
around but is usually really friendly.

callie sat at the table, breakfast set directly in front of her. distracted with her notebook rather than the food. “go ahead and eat, callie. I don’t work so you can just ignore your food.” her mother said sternly from across the table. the girl slowly pulled herself from the journal, one hand remaining on the worn pages while she finished the meal. her mother always made remarks that she would constantly have her eyes glued to her journal. after learning to read at a young age, she would always give her best attempt at reading any book she could find. from start to finish. callie leapt up from her chair the second that her bowl was empty. she cleaned it out and rushed to take her coat from the rack. “I’ll be back later!” the girl shouted, nearly tripping over her shoes as she made her way out the door. her noble companion followed close behind her as she walked hastily, barely having any time to pull her coat over her arms.

nearing the middle of town, she sat on a bench outside of a store, just in time to write more in this journal she was so interested in. the large dog sat next to her and she stroked his head. her dog, jack was nearly seventy pounds with long scruffy fur. he wasn’t such an attractive dog, but loyal til the very end. the commotion of the town was enough without his tapping tail and soft whimpers when she paused the petting. only to resume seconds later at the dog’s request and lift of a careful paw. although she enjoyed the company no matter what. she figured that she’d never find a better friend than jack. over the crowd she lifted her head to hear a group of girls gossiping over the royal family. in particular, the prince. callie could tell this prince was adored by many, even in the very short time she had lived here.

“he’s so handsome!” the girls squealed. callie gave a brooding glance in their direction, letting out a careful sigh. this sigh landed the girls focus right to her. a few more silent moments passed before callie spoke up “have you ever met the prince?” she inquired, dropping her pencil to her side. “no, but we know he’s handsome!” they replied. callie simply rolled her eyes as a response. any time there was gossip she’d simply turn away and bring her attention towards something else. she did just this to keep away from the girls' conversation. callie reached down to pet the scruffy dog once more, continuing to write in her journal. poetry was the most beautiful form of writing there was. at least in callie's eyes. after some time, she walked out from the bench and walked around the town. she hoped to get a better sense of where she would be living while she strolled. jack lumbered after her, not leash-bound for he was trusted by the girl. while she walked along the street, she glanced down to her journal every few moments. the scruffy dog simply sniffed around, making some distance between callie and he but always returning to her side when called. just then, a carriage clambered straight towards her. without time to move she almost got crushed. the horse came to a quick halt and reared up, neighing and kicking while it spun. she gasped and fell to the ground after losing her balance.

there she was, an out-of-control carriage spinning right towards her. while callie herself almost hit the stones in the scene. her life nearly flashed before her in an instant, until she was scooped up by a stranger. his words were lighthearted, simply a joke. it took her some silent moments to process what had happened though. once she gained her balance she tugged away from the man's arms. her heart pounding, she struggled to speak anything in return to him. callie couldn't even muster up a 'thank you' for the stranger. the girl's attention wandered to his eyes, while her own were misty. jack scampered over as quick as he could, her faithful companion returning to her side in order to nuzzle her hands. she bent down to pick up her journal, looking over it to make sure it wasn't ruined. luckily the book remained unscathed. callie brushed off her worn clothes, fighting the burning sensation in her eyes that urged her to cry away her anxiety.

the girl turned away on her heel, only to walk some steps away and sit on the curb of the road. she had never been fond of allowing others to see her while she felt upset, especially not strangers. the girl buried her head in her hands for a minute before gradually composing herself and speaking up to the man. she didn't expect to feel so shaken from the event but of course not all things were expected. "thank you for helping me, sir.” she told him in a hushed voice. usually this would be the time that she'd lighten the mood with a joke but she simply couldn't find it in her to joke around at the moment. she silently observed his clothing. the man's clothes were much cleaner and of higher quality than her own. callie figured someone in his family must have been great at sewing, or maybe he was wealthy and could afford some better clothes. she wasn't sure, but her thoughts didn't linger on this for long. some were just luckier than others while some worked harder than others yet the world didn't pay them in return. "may i ask for your name?" callie inquired kindly, her anxiety now replaced with brimming curiosity. the mutt next to her placed careful orbs onto the stranger but ended up wandering off to sniff some interesting scent.

callie couldn't do anything but chuckle at his remark. not exactly a gentleman she presumed, but he seemed kind and to have good intentions. there was no way for her to tell just yet but her naive nature always got the best of her. even if her first short-lived reaction was timidness. it wasn't the most delightful way of meeting each other. she expected the man to walk away and dismiss her, but he stayed to ask for her name. "i'm callista, my friends just refer to me as callie.” the girl answered, not that she had any friends though. she did love the name callista because of it's elegant sound and the meaning was wonderful as well. "most beautiful" well.. she didn't quite think that was true about herself but who knew? she was always her worse critic. callie would do just fine as her name. it was short and easy to remember.

simply shrugging this consideration away, callie's eyes returned to the man's own. attempting to search for any emotion that she could place her trust onto. this was the first person she had properly interacted with since entering the town. everyone else seemed to avoid her, and she felt invisible to those around her. if he was used to the town, perhaps he could help her find her way around or even just give her some basic directions. the girl had been observing him but not closely enough to catch his brief pause. listening closely to his response, she placed her hands into the pockets of her jacket. "it's nice to meet you alexander... have you lived here for some time?"
