Death leader of the Horsemen is traveling when he hears whispered tails
of a
lost soul that has been spotted in the mountains a few miles away.
It roams
around at night stealing the tails of children who are naughty and stay
out
after dark. He's heard a thousand of these stories but they're a good way
to
find the souls he's missed in his endless job of reaping.
Will he find this lost soul or will it be just another nursery tail told to
scare kits.

Skye was out at dusk gathering wood for his fire. The harvest has been bad this year so there wasn't much to cook but a scrawny rabbit and some berries were better then starving. A sound came from down the mountain, it would have been unnoticed by anyone but Skye who was used to the silence that the mountain offered. Sighing to himself he mentally prepared to be stalked by kids again tonight. Skye gathered the last of the wood he needed and headed back to his cabin to eat his meal and wait for the taunting to begin. He was weary of kids looking for a ghost, weary of them bullying each other forward into his quiet solitude. He sat down with a watery bowl of soup and waited.

(Sorry for the delay I work quite a bit and I've gotten sick )

Glowing orange eyes shone from underneath the long black hair of a Rukami that sat outside a small social gathering of Rukami. This area seemed a bit odd to him, he'd never seen a group of Rukami so accepting and so close. He hadn't breathed a word sense entering this area and yet here he was sitting with them with a slab of meat they had provided for him laying in front of him.
He sat their silently listening to their rambling conversations about what had been happening and who had kits lately and the like. All the while he glared at the meat they had offered. He was Death. The reaper. A God of all things that once lived. He did not need food to keep himself going [ though he did partake in eating on occasion it just wasn't a needed thing for him ] though really he was more annoyed that no where that went he was recognized. It did help that no one knew, but it was annoying that they didn't fear him as they should.
His thoughts returned back to the conversations they were having in time to catch one of them in a whispered voice say ,"Have you guys seen the ghost of the mountain lately?" Death was instantly on his paws, pushing past a smaller Rukami so he was part of the group. "Lost soul you say," his low rumbling voice caught the attention of everyone in the circle though no one seemed worried about it just surprised that he could talk. "Uh yeah," he said looking up at one of the tallest hills in the range ,"it lives over there, it hunts naughty kits for their tails and causes us a great deal of bad luck."
The Reaper nodded silently, and left the circle again walking towards the mountains. The group had gone back to talking about trivial things the moment he left, not caring much either way if the odd stranger left or stayed.

Death followed a rather well wore path towards the mountain. Perhaps it was just luck but his eyes almost instantly spotted a white Rukami seeming to float across the mountain towards a cabin. It could be a specter or the tall grass could be simply giving the allusion. Only one way to find out. He hunkered down onto four paws, something he rarely did, and began up towards the Rukami's home.
Failing to pay attention to where he stepped he landed heavily on a log. He thought for a moment it might hold his weight but as soon as he made to push off it it crunched, loudly. The white specter stopped in it's trek to the lit home it's eyes scanning the undergrowth, but Death had already pressed his body flat to the ground, the grass hiding his body.
He stayed their till he was certain any sain being would have left, and then pushed himself up. He dusted himself off reached behind himself under a black cloak he wore, pulling out a modest looking sickle. He was usually a lot more flashy but he had started a long journey and had not wished to burden himself. He could use any weapon to reap souls he only need to pick the tool up, but he did prefer to keep up with legend.
Now walking on his hind legs, weapon in hand he moved to the Cabin. He had no need to be coy about this now that he was armed with a soul capturing weapon. He curled one of his clawed hands and knocked on the door.

Skye sits eating his broth wondering how many kids are outside this time. "knock, knock, knock." The unfamiliar noise makes him pause. 'these are no kids.' He thinks to him self as he gets out of his chair to answer the door. bringing his soup with him he calmly keeps eating as he opens the door. In the doorway was a scary looking rukami. Tall, male, with a skull painted (he thought) on his face. The stranger was holding a massive scythe but appeared to be calm. Figuring he'd be dead by now if the stranger wished it Skye assumed he had something to say and stepped aside to make room for the stranger to enter. Not waiting to see if he followed him in, Skye went back to his chair and began eating once more.

The Reaper watched the Rukami through passive eyes. The white male didn't seem to startled to see him, which could be taken as a sign it was a spook- after all a dead thing is rather unafraid of Death. Then again this village seemed unnaturally friendly. Death leaned down, the door way to small for him to walk in without hunching over. His orange eyes followed the white male as he sat down in a chair bowl still in hand. Obviously this being was still apart of the living. Unless he was possessed by an evil spirit he had been mislead again. Even if the man was there was nothing to do about it, he only attacked demons when they were brazen enough to attack him first.
"The Lost soul of the mountain, aye." His eyes closed and he let out an angered sound. Death let his arms drop to his sides the sickle whistling dangerous close to the white male, though it was obvious Death had no intention of attacking him at this point. "You've cause me quiet the trouble." It was true in Deaths eyes. To him no one deserved to meet him till it was their time to die or if their soul was wandering around.
The masses had the misconception that he was everywhere, that individuals mattered. That's not how it worked, if it did then how could anyone believe in ghosts. No. He traveled town to town, continent to continent. It was an endless tiring job but if he didn't do it the Ghosts of the world would eventually find ways to take over their bodies again and the living and dead would converge on the same plane of existence. Which was unacceptable.

Skye looked up at the obviously angered Rukami and nodded his head. "Aye, the wandering spirit. That undeserved title has caused trouble for both of us it seems." He put down his bowl, he had had enough of this weak tasting soup and this ill gotten title. "Are you here for my soul?" Eyeing the sythe that had just barely missed him he attempted a weak joke. "It's either my soul or my story you're after if you're not here to rob me, though there's nothing worth taking here." Having lived alone by choice all his life the kids and intruders never put Skye in the best of moods. There was something obviously different about this large male and if he was brash enough to come wandering up here with a weapon and disturb his peace then Skye wanted to know what he was about. Curious by nature he loved a good story. He just didn't like company, that made getting stories difficult...

Deaths cold eyes remained on the male. Unresponsive to his questions and the bland joke. He paused for a moment, he could leave now it wouldn't be difficult and he doubted this lone Rukami had any attention of following a brute like him into the night. It was dark and late, not that night mattered much to him, but it was unlikely he would be able to find out much about lost souls during the night.
Perhaps just this once he could flattered a mortal with a story. Who would tell his story to the living if he didn't share it after all. "You're quiet brazen," he said after a few minuets of silence. "No mortals home that I've ever invaded has been so accepting of an armed brute entering without permission. I suppose I shall reward your passive behavior." He paused again, his grip tightening on the sickle he carried. Unwilling to set it down, when a weapon was touched by Death it took many weeks for the object to lose it's soul reaping abilities. It remained the only thing that kill him [ though the price of killing Death itself was becoming it in turn ].
"I was here for the lost soul of the mountain not you," Death's social manners were rusty in the nicest way to put it. "It's my job afterall to make sure the dead stay dead. It seems you're not quiet what the locals make you out to be."

Skye was taken back by what the stranger had said. But while it may have made other Rukami afraid it just piped Skye's curiosity. 'So, you're a soul collector? It's true. I'm quite alive. You don't seem like one who waste time or even knows how to tell a story, but, if it bothers you as much as it seems to to be unknown and have rukami unafraid of you then maybe you'll spare sometime to tell me your story? How you became what you are, who you were before and maybe what exactly you do? I collect stories and I can make sure you're a rumor on the wind. A Shadow to be feared and revered.' Skye's eyes lite up with a fire not seen very often in the docile male.'Tell me your story death dealer. I've been alone too long and I suspect you've not heard your own voice in eons.' The white male seemed taken back by his own brashness and leaned back in his chair. 'My apologies, if you are what you and your scythe say you are then I've a rare opportunity...' Skye's blue eyes stared boldly at Death waiting for some sign of his staying or going. He held his breath..

"Not a soul collector. The Soul collector," he corrected. "There's just me in this world that herds the dead." This male did have a point however. He did dislike the fact that these mortals could look him in the eye without flinching, they feared the thought of death, yet failed to flinch when they met him. "Yes I will tell you my story," he decided aloud, his orange eyes taking on a slightly lighter looking color as the light reflected in them. "A rare opportunity for you and me alike," he said after a moment ,"You're correct in guessing that I don't speak for the enjoyment of it. However I've failed to say a word to the living in so long they seem to have forgotten who I am."
"Let us start with those questions you've already asked. They are very good ones after all." He cast a glance at his sickle for a moment before slipping it back under his cloak into it's holder. Without having to worry about the weapon now he sat down on the floor, crossing his legs. "When me and my siblings- I'm sure you've heard of them, Famine, War and Conquest. There are a few more of us but they don't matter nearly as much. Our creators had made us, we are the elites. Or as your kind seem to refer to what they thought us to be the Angels. When our creators made other creatures, they were modeled after us but they corrupted my older brother, and in turn he led them on a evil rampage through this world. The task given to me and my brethren was to stop them. That we did. I slaughtered my brother with a scythe that I forged myself, and my sister and brothers annihilated the wrong doers."
"Back then immortality was a gift for everyone, but that by no means made them invincible. As a punishment to all that are not part of the elite they are mortal and easily susceptible to dying. Which is where I come in." He paused, looking up at the roof almost waiting for his higher ups to strike him down. After a few moments of silence from the heavens he shrugged and looked back at Skye. "Now being the oldest of the Elite it became my job to control the souls of the dead. My own punishment for killing my brother. The creators have a sense of humor you see- killing me if I failed or making me the Shepard of the dead for killing my family."
"As for what I do. It's not as seemingly simply as it looks. I wonder the whole world continuously- forever- looking for the souls of the dead and taking them to the after life. Either to the heavens- though very few make it- to await the next life in happiness. Or to what you would call Hell, were you suffer the pain you caused others over and over till it's time for you to try again." The next part would probably be the only surprising part ,"I also get to decide who's worthy of continuing in this life. I get to decide if the impact you could have is worth me not taking your soul. I can also end someone's life prematurely. However I have not done either of things yet for anyone in my whole long life."

Skye was silent for abit pondering what was just told to him. 'I'm betting it's even more complicated then that even.' He got up and fetched another bowl of weak soup. 'Has anyone ever tried to run? Or maybe that nots a good story to make Rukami quiver in fear.. What's your most memorable soul?'
