The desert has never been a very forgiving place. From birth young foals are taught of the great might of the desert, how at any given moment she may have a temper fit and whip up the sand against them, or perhaps turn them about until they are utterly lost. Still, this has been the home of the desert appaloosa mustangs for as long as they can remember, and through the ages the land has shaped them. With "five toed" hooves that don't stir the sand, long legs adapted to running, and a colouring that makes them appear like mirages to the few humans who glimpse them.

Yet to the DAM's of today that matters very little, by now that is a given fact, and not anything to concern themselves with. For the past three hundred years two large herds have dominated the greatest of the oasis's, The Hamseen Herd -which is the Arabic name for a sandstorm- and The Rimal Herd -which is the Arabic word for sand in its plural form- The two have ever been at odds with each other, yet have existed now for such a long time that few even remember times when the two managed to coexist peacefully.

However uncertain and restless times have begun to settle upon the two herds, now they have another horrific problem to deal with, greater even than the threat of violent bands of rogues, the oasis's are drying up. In such a time of danger and fear nothing is certain any longer, the ground beneath their hooves is swiftly vanishing, and the herd leaders will soon be confronted with a choice. Band together with the enemy herd and search for new oasis's? Or pray that the oasis returns to its age old health and prosperity?

1. A fairly obvious rule, follow all the guidelines set out by Tess
2. You must have a Desert Appaloosa to join
3. Keep characters realistic, and don't be afraid to expand on the plotline
4. No swearing/un-horse like behaviour please
5. Keep romance PG and realistic, fade to black for explicit scenes.
6. Drama, romance, and fighting between characters is encouraged
7. No foals are to be made up/born in the RP unless your DAM actually has a foal
8. Any suggestions, ideas, or anything OOC should be bracketed or PM'd to RP managers
9. You MUST have near perfect grammar and be capable of writing at LEAST 3-7 lines per post.
10. Feel free to control/create NPC characters, but keep them within context.
11. Prettying up your posts is fine, but make sure it coincides with CS rules.

Alright, for organizations sake, I figured it would be important for there to be an organized section where you can locate the herds and various groups, simply so that it makes it easier for you to figure out where your DAM would fit in. So use this as a resource for whichever purpose suits you, whether to decide if you want your DAM in a herd, figure out who you can interact with, or just look around to see where everyone else has their DAM placed.

There is a very specific structure to how things are done in this section. Herd groups, rogue bands, and loners all have certain categories under which they're placed. Specific herd structure will be explained below in the 'Info' section, so if you're confused or wish to know more about the ranks, go there.

This roleplay has the potential to be confusing if some of the terms and positions are not explained. So without further ado, I'd like to highlight a few different things for you to make everything a LOT less confusing. This is particularly helpful if you're just joining into the roleplay and want to know which position is best suited to your mustang. I also have the season, habitat, and territory map outlines here for your benefit.

Herd Positions Key

Lead Stallion:
{This position is the ultimate authority of the herd, but it does come with a lot of responsibility. Is your DAM up to it?

Responsibilities include:
-Making decisions for the herd
-Keeping them safe from danger
-Leading them throughout the territory
-Disciplining Foals
-Keeping order/stopping unnecessary fighting

Lead Mare:
She is the greatest source of support to the lead stallion. And is always his mate, her role holds much responsibility as well.

Responsibilities include:
-Helping the Lead Stallion
-Keeping track of herd members
-tending to pregnant mares
-ensuring equal food distribution

Second-in-Command:
This is always a stallion. He is the Lead's right hoof, and is heavily required in times of trouble.

Responsibilities include:
-Patrolling the herd
-Helping the lead with disputes
-Helping the lead with major decisions
-Training Defenders

Seconds Mate:
This mare isn't really a key part of the herd, but she does keep things going smoothly, and is highly valued to the Second in Command.

Responsibilities include:
-Helping her mate when needed
-Training Scouts

Defenders:
These are generally stallions, they are required to be bulky and yet agile. They are specifically selected for one thing and one thing only. Namely the defense and protection of the herd. Generally there are about four-six of them in a herd, and they are trained by the second in command to fight viciously against predators. They hold to a very specific code that must be followed at all times.

Responsibilities include:
-Protecting the herd
-Learning how to fight

Scouts:
These are almost always the swiftest and most intelligent of the herd. They are designated to one very important position. They travel throughout the territory, keeping an eye out for any rogue bands on the territory, keeping the other herd on their side of the border, and -when necessary- used as spies in a sense during wartimes to procure information on the other herd.

Responsibilities include:
-Patrolling the territory
-Locating any rogues or loners on the territory
-Reporting to the lead about enemies activities during wartimes (or even normally)

Must be submissive towards the lead to be permitted to remain

Foals:
Generally the children of the lead and second in command. Occasionally there will be foals from coupled mares and stallions who make up the rest of the herd.
