"That winter the snow fell in boundless amounts, and the wild mountain Equids, who had journeyed higher than usual into the mountains due to an overwarm summer, found themselves ill prepared for the cold that assaulted them. Trapped within a mountain pass three herds watched in agony as the snow piled higher and all food disappeared. The foals and eldest Equids were the first to succumb to the harsh conditions, and the grief that filled the hearts and minds of the others knew no bounds, yet the worst was yet to come. A blizzard, the equal of which has never been seen and likely never will be seen, rose up to claim the pass with its violent winds and bullet-like snow. Equids standing next to each other couldn't even see their neighbour, and for three long, miserable, days there was no movement within the pass as the blizzard raged. And when the snow settled, winds died down, and the sun made its appearance.....more than 3/4 of all the Equids gathered had perished. Stunned by loss the remaining survivors knew they had little choice but to try and escape, so for three perilous weeks the surviving members of the herds fought to free themselves from the cursed mountain pass, and by the time they had succeeded even their numbers had grown less, as others gave in to the hunger and illness that had taken hold. Miraculously the other side of the pass boasted stunning mountains, who's views went unparallelled, and had never been contaminated by the touch of humans. Even the grass tasted sweeter than anything they had ever known, and the Equids were quick to deem this new land as the New Hope Valley. To this day descendants of that ill-fated herd still live in New Hope Valley, or Hope Valley as it is now called, yet the stories told by the parents to their foals, of the Cursed Pass, still circulate today, and every horse knows that nothing good comes through that terrible place."A colt who had been listening intently to the elder mare and her woeful tale suddenly tossed his mane and snorted, turning to the old mare he lifted his head and asked a simple question. "But if thats true....then aren't all of us cursed? Since we came through the pass? And what if other Equids made it through and found our land? We couldn't chase them away could we? After all, we did the exact same thing!" Other youthful heads bobbed up and down in agreement, it seemed wrong to judge other creatures who made it through so harshly, couldn't it all have been bad luck? And besides, the more Equids the merrier! They could hardly turn away fresh blood from the herd, it just wasn't right! Plus, if it came down to it, the young foals couldn't help but think that it would be extremely hypocritical of the older horses, and lead Stallions, to turn away other Equids when they themselves had journeyed through the pass. Yet when the elder let out an annoyed exhalation and began to speak, all ears pricked forward curiously, eager to hear what she had to say on the matter."Well, you do bring up an interesting and good point young one. But you see....most of us are in agreement that anything that comes through the Pass with ease is just as cursed as the Pass itself. If there was an Equid who went through a similar trauma like we did....well, then we would welcome him or her with much love and respect. Though who knows! If one of you were to become leader things could be altogether different!" She said with an amused whinny, and indeed the colts sat up a little straighter with chests puffed out, for they knew that they all had a shot at becoming the next herd lord, and while it was a great responsibility it also was a great honour......

This roleplay is all about expanding on the nature of WME's and the challenges of life in the wild. I plan on keeping it as realistic as possible and in sync with all the information horsy1050 has supplied in regards to the species itself, however there is actually a plot behind everything, it doesn't necessarily have to be the focus of the entire roleplay, but it definitely will be a guiding factor and be part of the roleplay as a whole.
Srangers have come to the valley, which has thrown the leadership into chaos, since some Equid stallions are more forward thinking and believe that these newcomers should be welcomed, while other leaders believe more traditionally that they cannot be trusted, and should be driven away from the herds immediately. This has caused infighting between the various WME herds, which is being viewed by some as a sign that these newcomers truly are evil, while others think that backwards thinking should be eliminated and the conflict is simply a product of this antiquated thinking. Meanwhile, four Equids have arrived from somewhere deeper in the mountains, they didn't come through the pass so they aren't regarded as poorly, but they are not entirely trusted, and the herd as a whole isn't very accepting of them. The four join Cardigan's herd, and find themselves thrown into the midst of a huge political battle. But during this already unstable period a new threat rises from the east, wolves larger than typical and more intelligent. The herd will have to adapt or die. There will also be plenty of romance in this, as well as in-fighting and difficult situations.

1. A fairly obvious rule, follow all the guidelines set out by Tess2. PLEASE PM all forms to me, I want to keep this thread clutter free.3. Keep characters realistic, and don't be afraid to expand on the plotline4. No swearing/un-horse like behaviour please5. Keep romance PG and realistic, fade to black for explicit scenes.6. Drama, romance, and fighting between characters is encouraged7. I run this parade, so please try to listen to me now and then XD8. Any suggestions, ideas, or comments should be bracketed or PM'd to me9. If you want to drop out of the roleplay please tell me so we can find a replacement.10. Feel free to control all the NPC characters, but keep them within context.11. This is a SEMI-LITERATE TO LITERATE roleplay. Which means post length of 800 words and up, 600 with WBThat's all I can think of for now, if something else comes to mind I'll be sure to add it here ^-^

-essentially you can call me anything you can think of- I'ɱ Oɳʃiɳɛ► Waaay too much, I'd say a solid five hours a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. It all depends on what my schedule for that particular day looks like. ◄

Ɇɋuiɗ Iɳ-Ɖɛpʈɦ►
Pɛʀʂɵɳɑʃiʈɣ► Sasha's personality is shaped entirely around her history and the experiences she has been through, but I suppose for you to really understand her I should start with what her personality initially was, compared to how it is now. When Sasha was a young filly she was, for lack of a better word, "bouncy" and full of life. Her hopes and dreams for the future were set high, and she dreamed of having a mate and foals.
WIP Ħiʂʈɵʀɣ► *at LEAST 250 words*
Liκεʂ► √
Running, its therapeutic for her, and keeps her fit as well so its a bonus either way. √
Clover & sweet grass, cliched maybe, but she just adores the taste of clean, sweet, grass and clover. √
Rain, most Equids find this odd about her, but there's nothing Sash likes better than wet feel, and pitter patter of rain. √
Stallions, despite what she bitingly says to everyhorse, she has great admiration and appreciation for the opposite gender. √
Spring, the miracle of renewal that spring brings is a source of awe and joy to her. It soothes her battered spirit√
True friends, they may be hard to come by, but Sasha wishes for them, and values them above all else.√
The Herd, during the months she spent in solitary life she craved the company of other Equids, so being a part of the herd makes her happy. Điʂʃiκεʂ► ×
Winter, its cold, the snow brings back bad memories, and its difficult to run in, who WOULD like it? ×
"Macho" stallions, any male who struts his stuff and acts like he's all that is instantly shunned by her. ×
Bold romantic advances, they terrify her, making her remember all the demons and horrors of her past. ×
Loud Equids, the tiresome prattle and loud obnoxious chatting is liable to drive her insane. ×
Busybodies, if they can't keep their noses out of her business she's likely to shun, avoid, or belittle them.×
Predators, not surprising she abhors anything that might incite violence against those she cares about.×
Conflict, its against her basic nature to fight or argue, so she doesn't handle it very well when others start it. Ƒɑɱiʃɣ► None, all are deceased or estranged. Sasha is a bit of a loner too, and isn't accepted by many of the horses. Though she has struck up something of a bond with the mare Morrigan. Lɵvɛ Iɴʈɛʀɛʂʈ► No one yet. Though secretly Sash does hope to find a stally who will understand and cherish her, its sort of a cause for inner contention with her, given what she's been through. Oʈɦɛʀ► Nothing important I can think of. Yet.

Ɇɋuiɗ Iɳ-Ɖɛpʈɦ►
Pɛʀʂɵɳɑʃiʈɣ►Livius is one of those genuinely nice stallions that everyone is suspicious about at first, but the more time passes, you either have two options: like him because he's truly nice or hate him because he makes you look bad. He's been motivated to behave in a proper and polite manner by both his upbringing and by experience. You don't get yelled at often if you're genteel. He comes with this annoying sense of integrity that gave him a "goodie four-hooves" reputation with his old herd. However, he will do almost anything to avoid confrontation unless absolutely necessary. If he's treated unkindly or scolded with harsh words, this strong and silent stubbornness wells up from within. He retreats within himself and that resentment boils; sometimes, it becomes acidic and he can't bring himself to forgive the individual who did him wrong. When he blows up, it's fearsome and when it blows over, Livius is always acutely embarrassed. The strength of his emotions sometimes scares him.
When it comes to other Equids farther up the pecking order, he prefers suggestions and not orders. He doesn't ask much from others and when something is demanded of him, he either will comply to keep the peace or show a wall of passive resistance. Fighting, in his opinion, rarely solves problems and he can't understand why others are unkind at times. He loves praise and if giving in to a ridiculous demand will earn him some points, he'll probably do it. Sincere gratitude will often make him dance in place.
He enjoys his quiet independence and yes, while he's part of a herd, he likes doing his own thing in his own time. Pressure isn't a good way to get results from him. It's because he's secretly very concerned about how he's viewed by the others. Near-perfection is his aim. If he's focused on getting a task completed, consider it done. If a mare asks him to do something, he'll go head-over-hooves to get that task done, hah!
A mare who gets to know him well would be one who took a good, long time coaxing it out of him. He prefers to be asked to reveal his interests/dreams/etc. He hates feeling vulnerable, but at the same time, he values being known and understood. He's had his heart broken a few times, but he knows that when he finds the one, they will be together for an eternity. Ħiʂʈɵʀɣ►Livius was born to a lead stallion and one of his mares just after the last snow of winter. He was raised to be kind, like his mother, and strong, like his father. Everyone knew who his father was (with his grullo markings) and he began to resent his lineage after the other foals in the herd teased him mercilessly. After all, they knew he wouldn't fight back - his upbringing wouldn't allow for it. Try as his mother did, she couldn't convince him that he was actually a handsome colt and hence, his humble and unassuming nature was sculpted.
He had his heart broken a few times within his father's herd and always by fillies who wanted him for his lineage alone. They always sidled up to him, dragged his love around, and then left it in the mud once they realized that he was just as nice as he seemed - what filly wants a nice colt? Thus was born his deeply-ingrained inability to reveal those wonderful little nuances about his personality - likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc. The last brief relationship he was in was with a grey filly who berated him in front of the entire herd, his father included. She earned his eternal scorn and that was the main catalyst for him leaving his herd. He washed his hooves of everyone but his mother. She remains an eternal fond memory in his heart.
Once he left his herd, Livius traveled alone for many months. With his independent nature, he was pleased to spend the time learning more about himself. His trials weren't amazingly difficult, but he did have a run-in with a few truly dangerous predators and barely avoided capture by humans. He was too leery of the snare laid out on the game path he habitually traveled and when he returned to see if anything had changed, a deer had taken his place in the rope's loop. This deeply affected him, even causing him to tumble into a brief depression, and humans have no chance of getting near him now. He had to leave that area of land or risk being captured. His travels took him up into the mountains and to areas that where unfamiliar to him. It was terrifying sometimes. A loose rock almost caused his death when it dislodged from beneath a hind limb during an uphill travel and he was just able to dig his front hooves into the shale. He was able to make his way out into a lush valley just before the beginning of fall and when he found the herds there, he had to admit that he was anxious to be within the safety of a herd once more. He had grown tired of having to be constantly on-guard and sacrificing sleep for his life. The more he interacts with the herd, the more he's coming to enjoy being with the Autumn Herd, currently being led by lead stallion Durango and lead mare Karma. Liκεʂ►√
Fresh clover just after the sun rises; he likes the contrast of the warm leaves with the cooler dew droplets.√
Autumn weather when everything is bright and crisp; he secretly likes to dash through the woods just to hear the amount of crunching his hooves make in the fallen leaves. √
Making true friends, not just acquaintances. √
Doing kind things for others and being helpful in general. He takes great pride in making someone's life easier (and it boosts his ego).√
Sleeping for as long as possible; he consider it a rare treat.
Điʂʃiκεʂ►×
Cold weather. Many of his bad experiences being alone relate to bad weather conditions.×
Unnecessary confrontation in any shape and form. ×
Obviously flirtatious mares (the "popular" mares).×
Leeches. Ugh.×
Roses, because of the thorns. He's disliked them since he was a foal. Ƒɑɱiʃɣ►None yet. He wouldn't know if he had relatives in these herds due to the distance between his home land and the valley. If there were, they would be cousins at least twenty times removed.Lɵvɛ Iɴʈɛʀɛʂʈ►None yet. He expects to find someone soon though; it's been brewing in the back of his mind.Oʈɦɛʀ►I will let you know if I think of something!
