Hello and welcome to the Novice Level Class A! My name is Wolf'sflame and I'm the Proctor of this Class! Together we will battle common mistakes so you can all pass your tests with flying colours and be the VERY FIRST students to become Intermediate or Level 2 In CS history! (I'm not joking about that...) *yes, there is a test*

Goals for this Level: (These are what you need to have in posts in order to be tested)
In this level, we will be working on your…
•Character depth and insight -- you will be exploring your character’s thoughts, feelings and actions
•Grammar and Spelling – we hope to cut out all grammar and spelling problems early so that you can have an easier time in the next few levels
•Fluidity – we will steer you away from dead enders and rocky sentences!
•Avoidance of Gary/Mary Sues and power playing/god modding – because these are rude and annoying
•Turn Taking – because we want you to keep your head when you move out into the world of online rping
•Post Length – because nobody likes one-liners. You will have to post 8-9 lines (150 words ish) consistantly to be able to pass

A note: The Novice level, or Level 1, has the most goals, so don't be discouraged with this list, most of these are regular mistakes, and work on parts that you need to work on (I will critique it so it will be easier for you to figure that out) and the test will be a breeze. (Also, you will be tested when I think you are ready for it, students DON'T need to wait for the other students to do the test.)

Intro\Plot

Humans have found out something, they have found out about the small race of Shapeshifters. They're abilities allowed them to hide for a long time while dodging human suspicion. They had a human form, in which they would be able to approach humans easily, their hybrid form, for emergecy purposes only, and finally their animal form, where they look completely normal.

Upon discovery, the humans began to fear them, so then a Hunt arose, where humans would hunt down anyone suspected or seen of a Shapeshifter. This has created a problem for you. The real problem is that they have found out about you. Now you've had to leave your home to become on the run. Is there any place that is safe for you? Will there be any hope for you and the other shapeshifters?Can you actually survive?

Rules...

1. When I post, it will be in THIS colour so you all know where the critique is and such.
2. When you are talking out of character (which shouldn’t happen often during the actual practice), always write in between double parenthesis, or put “OOC:” in front of it.
3. If you wish to drop out at any time, PM me, so it doesn't seem like you dissappeared, never to return. (Though you will be one of many to not become an intermediate student) If something is going on with your life and can't get on, also PM me. If I suddenly dissappear for a certain amount of time without any notice, imform the Headmaster.
4. Please put the talking in bold so it is easier.
5. As usual, all of Tess's Rules apply (please also don't do Godmodding or anything)
6. If there is any of ...well.... you know, fade to black, and do not seriously injure or kill another character without permission (thought I doubt the killing part will happen)
7. if you do any cussing, please bleep it out, but let's all keep it to a minimal
8. Be patient with the other students and myself, we all have lives as well, so please don't spam around. (Patience is a virtue, and if you have patience, you WILL be a Level 2)
9. Please have a maximum of two characters (thought it is preferred to have just one) and wait to have your character accepted

Creating Characters\Forms
Just like above one the goals, one of the aims of the Novice level is to teach you to consider every aspect of your character, or most of the aspects, which leads to creating a well-developed character who has some sustenance to him or her, and isn't one sided or "a cardboard cut-out". That being said, I think it would be good to have one or two characters per person, so that we're practicing. Like a regular RP, we have a character form (or skeleton) to create and expand on your character. (This one is designed to have a basic idea what your character looks and acts like.)

DO NOT STEP OUT OF TURN, that is unless I say that is allowed, not only do RP sites hate when that happens, but we are all learning so this makes it easier on everyone because it's annoying to try to learn this stuff when you have to wait for a recap.

Human Form: Long bright red hair. Her hair is mostly straight with a giant "wave" in it. She has short, straight bangs. Her skin is peachy. She has a light small figure. She is about 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs around 115 lbs.
Hybrid Form: little red panda ears appear and a lesser panda tail is also visible.
Animal Form: normal red panda with emerald green eyes

Special Markings (tattoos, scars, etc): burns on her face

History: when she was 5 there was a huge fire in her house. She luckily escaped unlike the rest of her family. Her sister, brother, mother, and father were all burned. She has some burn marks on her face from that fire and now fears fires above all else. She didn't find out she was a shape shifter until she was 6 years old. She only went to preschool and only knows her math skills. She was fostered until she found out about her shape shifting ability. Then she left and has been living in the forest. She made herself a shabby little house. (her story is longer, but I will make up parts as we go along)
Personality: She is shy at first and keeps her distance from unknown people. But once you get to know her she is fun and energetic. She is a trouble maker, and curious like a kid. She likes to goof around and go on adventures. She can be/feel awkward at times and is very emotional. She can hold grudges forever and can be aggressive towards those who have been mean to her. She can get very attached to things and hates it when those things are taken away.
Strengths: climbing, swimming, math, sewing, running
Weaknesses: cooking, hunting, fighting, can't write/read, not very good with people, never has socialized, only went to preschool

Appearance~
Human Form: In human form, Neko is rather small and skinny for his age, standing at around 4'10" and weighing approximately 72 pounds. Despite being small in both height and weight, Neko is extremely speedy and light. Neko has a pointed, slender face and slightly olive-colored skin. He has jet black hair that is messy and chin-length. It tends to hang over his face sometimes like a mop. Neko's eyes are a stunning cool-grey color, and they always seem to shine with excitement and brightness.
Hybrid Form: Neko's hybrid form is rather peculiar, as his animal form is a species of bird. His shoulder blades sprout small, agile wings, and his fingernails turn into sharp talons. His eye color becomes wicked-yellow, and grey-and-white feathers sprout up in small places such as the sides of his forearms up to his elbows, and along the sides of his shins up to the kneecap.
Animal Form: When in animal form, Neko shrinks down to a peregrine falcon. He has soft, grey plumage, with black tinges here and there in some places. His underbelly is pure white up to the base of his yellow and black beak. His eyes are a mesmerizing yellow, ringed with black.
Special Markings (tattoos, scars, etc): A birthmark in the shape of a spade on his back. It shows up in his animal form as well.

History:  When Neko was a small boy, around age six or so, his parents quickly found out about his developing shapeshifting powers when Neko tried to impress them by transforming. Horrified, his parents wanted to desperately get rid of their son without anyone noticing. Being greedy, they sold him to a nearby circus in exchange for much money. Neko lived in the dirty, very old circus for around four years before escaping, and being on the run, chased by the hunters and ringmasters of the circus. Neko continues to live an outlaw, according to his town, and his whereabouts by hunters are currently unknown.
Personality: Neko is rather tricky and cunning around hunters. He uses pretty much every plan possible to escape society whenever it seems a sign of them might know his whereabouts. Around others, he will be hard to gain the trust of, and will flee at any given time. If befriended, by showing loyalty to him, he will stay true, loyal, and will try and protect that person, no matter how dire any situation might be. However, Neko can be a little naive at times, especially around his friends.
Strengths: Escaping from chases with ease and being loyal to friends.
Weaknesses: Temptation, being naive.
Greatest Fear: Torture
Greatest Desire: To be accepted by society.
Family: The names of his parents are Jade and Lance Valenz, though Neko has not spoken to them for many years. His suspicions are that they have turned into hunters, though there is no evidence.

Jain has long, curly hair that is a mixture of brown and black. Her hair is mainly dark brown, but it has dark highlights. Her body is not skinny, but average with a bit more plump. Her legs are long. She weighs around 120 pounds and is around 5' 6". Her skin is a light beige, and her eyes are a dark brown.
Hybrid Form:
She grows antlers on her head and her hands morf into hooves.
Animal Form:
The antlers are a light brown, the coat is smooth and glossy, and the legs long with shiny black hooves.
Special Markings (tattoos, scars, etc):
On Jain's left and right shoulder blade she has antler tatoos and she has a scar across her right eye from battle as an elk.

History:
Jain started as a young calf. She lived in a meadow that provided food and shelter from the winds and snow. One year, she was leaving the herd when the volcano near her home erupted and destroyed most of the herd and the meadow. She ran into a highly populated human area where she found herself to be able to morph into a human. She was found homeless at the human age of eight. She was taken in by a loving family who cared for her, her entire life. She went to the forest one day and trasformed, where she encountered a moutain lion who she fended off, but her right eye got cut.
Personality:
Jain had been lonely since her home was destoyed, so she is quiet. Jain is not shy enough to not stand up for what she beleives. When she sees something is wrong, she calls it out and will get into a fight about it. Jain is aggresive and sometimes self-centered.

His hair changes to a speckled grey colour, grey fox ears are visible as well. His iris and pupils look more fox-like, his teeth look a bit more canine like as well. He still keeps his green eyes.
Animal Form:
He is a grey speckled fix with reddish marks; in short he looks just like a grey foc except for his eye colour.

His mother taught how to shapeshift, but told him to not show anyone.He did everything a human would, go to school and hang out with friends but not tell his secret. His father, who was had given him his black hair in his human form, was murdered suddenly when he was a month into being 15. He fled home a year later for safety a year later; but he hates to talk about it.
Personality:
Jason is compassionate and understanding as well as kind and caring, but he can be rash and hot tempered when he wants to be. His recklessness is also a little bit of a problem, but once you get through that, you can see he is a nice guy. He is also a bit of a clever trickster. He will also get nervous, slightly depressed, or concerned if someone he considers a friend is very injured; or all three. He also can get slightly depressed when he feels useless.
Strengths:
He is good at tree-climbing, running, and good with his fingers, depending on the activity.
Weaknesses:
He is not good with strength and dealing with the city, he also hates to feel useless and that he can't do anything.
Greatest Fear:
To be forever chased, also to be killed or trapped in a cage like an animal. Also to never have a chance to be who he wants to be and never have a chance to say he should also be equal, not matter if he is a shapeshifter or not. To have loved ones killed.
Greatest Desire:
To be an equal to the humans, to have choice and being able to live like he once did.

Mary-sues and Gary-sues:

In general, these characters are all around perfect, Perfect face, friendly to everyone, good at everything and abilities appear when needed, and has no flaws whatsoever. This makes an unrealistic, and even boring, character. The reason is because they do not create drama or cause any action; they're just hanging out and are along for the ride.These types of characters SHOULD be avoided!! The character forms help keep everyone away from this, but this will happen from time to time. I will use both characters already made: Jason Revain and Kai Izov. (I repeat, these characters were accepted AND already posted before this note, that is why I am using them as examples.)

Name:It is good to pick a name that either, or both, describes the character or is unique (not like Bob, Sarah, Lucy, or Rob). Kia is a japanese name, making it a more unique name; Kai Izov is a good name to pick for originality. On the other hand, Jason means "Healer", and according to the personality, he is understanding and compasionate so maybe he can help "heal" the hearts of bad memories.

Special Markings (tattoos, scars, etc): burns on her face

Appearance: Not all characters have to look "perfect", this is where Kai's profile is very good example for this part, rather than mine. She doesn't have perfect skin, she has "scars", more known as burns, on her face, this makes her more unique in such a way, making her more like a 3D character.

Personality: This part is the most common place where people mess up sometimes. I'm not saying everything should in a character should be bad. Just add in things like "cocky", "sometimes agressive when...", "gets depressed if..", or "selfish". You should add good things such as "shy", "clam", "happy-go-lucky", becuase this defines you're character. A good balance makes the character show different sides to a character. Likes & dislikes as help out with this too.

History: Not really the biggest thing of a Mary/Gary-sue, but a perfect life or " has had a normal life" isn't the way to go when it comes to this. State events such as "almost drowned at 6 years old", "mother died in accident to work" or "betrayed by a close friend", this let's us have an idea what they have gone through and why they act, for fear things, the way they do.

Fears: This sometimes works hand in hand with the History section. Everybody has fears, so part of a Mary/Gary-sue is stating they are fearless of everything, no fears at all. This is boring, plain and simple. Kia has a fear of fire because of childhood history, this is a great example of a phobia. Jason is afraid of being killed, he has a fear of death. He wants to have freedom and equality, however, so this makes controversy in his decisions; should he take a stand and risk his, already limited, liberty and possibly life or try to not change anything?

(Accepted! This is actually a very good form. The name is fairly unique, around the age of other characters, and her personality is very well done due to having different sides to the characters, including quirks. Her history points to the main points in her life and shows what she has went through. This character is deffinately not a mary-sue, because she isn't perfect. Having the scars also makes her more unique. Overall, this is a very interesting character, great job!.

Just a helpful tip for all three of you, it makes it easier to centre the form and put the information under it, but even I have to improve on that; so don't worry too much about that one.
-I just did that because I was on my ipod when I made my character, which is difficult to bold, centre and such.-

Basic Information~
Name: Oceane Dupont
Gender: Female
Age: 16 years of age
Hunter or Shapeshifter?: Shapeshifter

Animal: White Tiger

Appearance~
Human Form: Oceane is short, and skinny, with pale alabaster skin and black hair that is cut short in a layered bob. She often wears it spiky, and it frames her delicate face. She has green/yellow eyes, with a hint of gold in them. Her profile is slim but not skinny, and she has slightly-too-long legs. But her physical features are disfigured by the horrible scars that wrap round her torso. Her teeth are even except for two "vampire" upper canine teeth, set slightly too high up.
Hybrid Form: Oceane's hair gets streaks of white, and she grows tiger ears. Her fingernails lengthen and sharpen into claw-like nails, and she gets her tail. Her upper canines lengthen to where they should end, but they stay set too high. Keeps her eyes.
Animal Form: A snow-white and coal black tiger, with the black stripes down it's back that are scars when human. Slightly oversized paws and too-long legs. She has green/yellow eyes still.
Special Markings (tattoos, scars, etc): Banded scars running down her back, which she hides from those she does not trust. They pain her when someone touches them. Tiger head tattoo on left upper arm.


More In-depth~
History: Oceane's first change happened in France at the age of six when she went to visit the zoo with her parents and grandparents. They were looking at the tigers and Oceane reached her hand into the cage. Her mother immediately yanked her away, but Oceane changed in her arms to a tiger. She accidentally mauled her mother's face and arms, as she was confused. She was captured by guards and kept in a sealed room until she changed to human form, which took weeks. When she changed back her back was ripped open where her spine had lengthened, and she got her scars. When the guards came to take her away they realised her scars hurt. Right after she had roared with pain anyway.

She was kept in a secure prison facility for three years, before she finally changed into tiger form for so long they thought she would stay like that. They set her free into China and she roamed the wild lands there. But she was homesick for the lush plains of Southern France, so she travelled all the way home on foot, sometimes human, sometimes animal. She reached home at 15. She was found by a travelling circus, when she was in tiger form, and she travelled to America with them before escaping when the circus was closed by the American Government.
Personality: Oceane is very blunt, and to the point. She doesn't spare people's feelings, she just tells it like it is. Sometimes this can lead to trouble, especially with her sarcasm and irony mixed in. She is very opinionated, and will fight for what she believes is right, no matter the cost. She values wildlife and nature, and believes everything and everyone has a purpose and meaning. She is optimistic, a real light in the dark. But she can be very brittle, and sometimes shy. She is not one to sit on the sidelines though, and will speak her mind. Sometimes she says things without much thought about her words before, which again can lead into bad situations. She feels terrible for what happened to her mother, and wishes she had not done it.

Overall, she is very cheeky, mischievous, and even a little harsh. But she will give her heart and soul to everything she loves, and is a very loyal and passionate friend. She has a bit of a die-hard attitude to life.
Strengths: Her long legs mean she is fast and light on her feet. She is very graceful and dances beautifully, especially ballet. She has the voice of an angel.
Weaknesses: She isn't very strong (except in tiger form she is normal strength), and isn't great with too many people. Not very good in a crowd.
Greatest Fear: Government, and strangely business men. Due to bad experience to men wearing suits! She is scared of tall, imposing people (such as prison guards) as she is an easy target.
Greatest Desire: To live a life where she doesn't have to watch her back, and where she can do as she wishes. Also wants her family, and to be normal (only sometimes).
Family: She was an only child. Hasn't seen her parents, Patrice and Marie, since she was six. Her mother is disfigured due to her.

(Also a great, non mary-sue character.This is also a very good form, very well done! The name is spelled uniquely and her personality differs from Wolfie-kat's and my own character. I love the description as well. The only part that I would suggest is about the scars... I didn't understand how she got them. Other than that, great job!)
