Gale kind of liked the name Blake … but it sounded too much like Drake, which sounded too much like a duck. He shot Riley a look before nodding and standing up, forehead creasing in a slight frown. "Huh? R- Lucy?" He coughed slightly to cover up his mistake as Riley sprinted from the door, and Gale felt like running after her and slapping her. What was she thinking? She'd practically just blown their cover. Glancing over his shoulder, he was about to add a quick 'thanks, mate' to the man before he saw the old-fashined wire phone in his hand.
"Hello? This -CRRRRKK- emergency services, which do -CRRRRRRRKKK- require?"
The idiot had dialled 911. In a flash Gale was over by the counter, grabbing the phone and yanking it as hard as he could until the rusty, coiling wire line snapped with a sharp squeal or protest from the phone. The man yelled and tried to grab the phone back, letting something along the lines of, 'get f-----g away from me you g-----n f-----g a-----e.' Gale yanked his arm away and sprinted like crazy after Riley as the curses and "-CRRRRRRKKK- hello?"'s followed him through the snow. "Get in the car! Get in the car!"

"Oh sh--." Riley ran faster as she heard the cussing and smashing and the footsteps behind her. Gale was yelling for her to get in the car. She made a mad dash for the red ferrari, almost tripping and falling in the snow. She was lucky there were no cars coming. A couple of confused people watched helplessly with wide eyes as she yanked open the door and plopped into the passenger's seat. She kept her mouth shut and squirmed around, her heart pounding crazily.

Gale's sudden, loud exit from the shop had certianly attracted a bit of attention. The small group of people watching Riley had now shifted their focus to him and were gaping and whispering like a gaggle of deranged penguins. He slipped in his haste and stumbled forwards a few strides, barely managing to stay on his feet.
"He's one of THEM!" The man yelled behind him, torn between staying in the comfort of his shop and chasing after the boy. He needn't worry. A stocky man in his late twenties had already joined the chase, arms pumping as he yelled something about a dead daughter.

Gale yelled and the sky turned dark behind him almost immediately, the snow turning to a violent downpour and changing the ground to slush beneath his feet. He was almost at the car but it was so dark he could hardly see anything more than a few metres before him. The memories felt like they were a tsunami invading his brain, swamping him and dragging him down further and further into the endless-
"Riley!" He shouted just as his hands thudded into the car. Gale quickly felt along the sleek car until his hands found the door and he wrenched it open. There was a wet kind of squelch as he threw himself in and sat down; slamming his foot down on the accelerator. The Ferrari glided out of the lot and started to gain speed.
Gale's hands were shaking.

Riley was terrified. She had had some stuff happen like this before, like when the time she got way too angry, and she charred a giant spot in a tree as she was walking by. She charred it with a plasma bolt. Unfortunately, there was a few people around, and the cops got suspicious. Riley worked her way out with her lies, which came in handy often. Even though other things had happened, she was still scared. She didn't want to see her face all over the news, and be in a small, cold cell all her life. She shuddered.

"Gale!" She called at the same time he called her name, hearing the squeaking of sweaty hands on the car and then the door popping open. It was suddenly dark and the temperature dropped drastically. Of course, it was obvious Gale had did it. The car screeched out of the parking lot, and Riley's head slammed against the leather. Her hands fidgeted for the seat belt, and she clicked it in, breathing heavily.

Riley curled herself up into a small ball, wrapping her arms around her knees as she pulled them up into the seat. She secretly hoped to feel Gale's embracing arms again, but she knew that wasn't going to happen. "I'm so sorry, Gale." She said meekly, stuffing her head down in shame. Her whole body was shivering uncontrollably now.

The car was out of the lot and through the winding lanes; into the motorway within a few seconds thanks to the nought-to-seventy miles per hour it could reach in something like two and a half seconds. It took Gale about two or three minutes to full register what was happening. He vaguely resembled a deer-in-the-headlights, his eyes wide and hands gripping the wheel until his knuckles flared white. He barely registered the fact that he was driving, or that the weather was gradually getting worse and worse outside, or that the sky was black, or that there was a small girl in the seat beside him looking very much like she was about to have an emotional breakdown of some sort. Her words fell to deaf ears. Gale drove hard and fast as the sleek car wove easily through the end-of-school traffic and he again cursed himself for getting such a noticeable car.
"Need to pull over," He muttered darkly, blasting on the horn as an elderly couple slowed at a traffic light. "Damn it, damn it, damn it!" Gale threw the wheel to the left and shot past them, into a wave of oncoming traffic. Expertly navigating his way through them until finally he was on an open stretch good enough for a greater speed, he finally glanced across at Riley's huddled form.
"Not your fault, Riley." The words were quiet and hard. He watched the needle creep up to ninety miles per hour as they sped past a kid with his nose to the glass.

Riley was thrown against the car door, her legs and arms flailing out of her ball formation, sort of like popcorn. She was glad to have her seatbelt on, because it could've been way worse if she didn't. She curled herself into a ball again.

Riley would of cracked a smile when Gale blared the horn and cursed at the elderly man and woman, but she was shivering and her heart was pumping. She wondered if they were still being chased, or if the were going to be on the news, or if they were getting arrested. She felt like it was all their fault. You should've been more careful! Why are you so clueless! She felt that she had blown their cover. Riley couldn't stop worrying and scolding herself. She stared blankly at the black leather on the seat, her chin resting on top of her knees.

Riley barely caught Gale's words, which were sort of hard and dissmissing. She still felt like it was her fault. "Yes it was. Stop making me try to feel better. I blew our cover by being so clueless!" She protested harshly.

Gale winced as he caught a glimpse of Riley's expression, trying to focus and lock his eyes back on the road again. "Riley, I'm serious. Chill. Not your fault. He was gonna call the shots anyway," He replied quietly, smoothing down his hair and blinking slowly. It was getting dark quickly which was strange and somewhat annoying and he flicked on the headlights.
"I've been in worse s---. We're fine." Gale yawned loudly and drummed each of his fingers in turn on the wheel, his startled deer expression now relaxed by that of boredom.

Riley frowned. Why was Gale trying to make it sound like his fault? She sighed and shut her mouth, deciding not to argue even though she wanted to yell Gale it was SO my fault!!!!! She closed her eyes and let her hair droop over her face, trying to calm down. She was still shivering, but it had slowed. "Could you turn up the heater?" She asked quietly, then adding, "Where are we going? ..... I can take you to my farm."

Her parents wouldn't really like a red ferrari pulling up to the house at twelve o' clock at night, to find that their daughter and a mysterious boy had been skipping school all day. They'd probably think that she had been at some kind of party too, where they all got drunk and blah blah blah. That was really the only place Riley could think of. Maybe they could camp out in the woods behind the house with sleeping bags and stuff, and roast marshmallows and eat s'mores and talk about the day. That would really be fun, but Riley didn't know if she could make that happen.

Gale took a random turning at the end of a traffic-jammed roundabout, smoothing down his hair yet again. The sky was definitely getting darker by the second. June's doing? One of the younger Secrets, June had the power to control light. Maybe she was having a tantrum. It was usually the case. Once in 2008 she'd been sulking because of something or other and there had been an hour-long eclipse. It was partly funny and partly disturbing to see the strange theories scientists came up with for it.
He sighed quietly as the car drifted to a standstill again and turned to face what he could see of Riley, expression blank. Although her long hair covered most of her face and most of it was shadowed he could just catch the occasional glimpse of her sad, guilty expression. Flicking on the heater and turning it up to the full, his hand stilled slightly as he increased the fall of snow. Even if the police or the man were following them they'd have a hard time within all the traffic and snow and darkness, They were mostly safe ... and stuck.
"I don't know where we're going ... no." He said gently, lips pursed in concern. "Riley, I know you may want to go home but you have to understand that we can't. If that man by any chance recognised you then that's the first place they'll go." He was quiet for a while, wringing the worst of the water from his shirt that was clinging to his skin, distractingly showing off his six-pack. Of course they'll have recognised me, He added bitterly in his mind, gazing out the windscreen for a few seconds. "Will ... If they do turn up at your house, will your parents ... will they admit to knowing what you are, do you think?" Gale asked slowly. A drop of water slowly wound it's way down his forehead, glinting silver in the half-light.
