Briarstar kept a straight face, but his fur prickled with unease. War was never good. He would not take part in it. He stepped forward to howl out his announcement. "Thicketclan has welcomed Applepelt into our ranks. Silvershade has given birth to three healthy kits, Beetlekit, Mintkit, and Specklekit. We would like to extend a request for allieship to Flowerclan and Brookclan." He decided against his normal ending of acceptance of new allies due to his paranoia about the war. He did not want to be part of this bloodshed.

troutstar had little time to go to the gathering, and little patience as well. as she arrived, she waited for a good time, and took her place. without preamble, she simply declared her enemies. "reedclan is now allies with stoneclan. we are also declaring enemies on witherclan, echoclan, and jinxclan." they were the main clans she remembered from the battle - she also remembered pineclan, but it pained her too much to announce enemies with them. she was pretty sure other clans had participated, but it hurt her too much to remember. she left without giving the other clans time to argue with her, meeting silverwing a few foxleaps away where she had been watching. she looked back at the gathering, especially the tumbleclan leader sagestar, and sighed. "this isn't what i wanted."

As Ashenclaw listened to Sorrelstar's plea, he wondered frantically what Emberstar would do. BeechClan was their ally, and - and there was a murderer on the loose ... "I can assure you, LeafClan is on your side, and we will do all we can to help," the deputy promised, quite surprised that his voice didn't shake. Now he had a bit more confidence in himself when he stepped forward for his announcement. "LeafClan is doing very well. We have grown immensely since the last Gathering, with six kits on their way to becoming apprentices. We are also open to new allies." Ashenclaw finished and quickly padded back into the group of leaders. Whew, he'd done it. Thank StarClan.

"No, I haven't, but I might soon, who knows," The ginger tom mewed with a smile. "And that would be really cool! I wonder what our full names will be."
Willowcloud smiled as she watched Applepaw, and she looked around at the other medicine cats, uttering a "hello" to the ones arriving.

"We're doing well, thanks! Our leader couldn't come tonight, though, because she has kits to look after. That's our deputy making the announcement now," Briardusk flicked her tail in the direction of the Great Rock. "How is your Clan doing?"

"I don't see the point of all this, honestly," Patchthorn grumbled to Frostpath. "Except the leaders making their announcements, of course. Why should we be speaking with and making friends with cats of other Clans? It will only cause trouble, if you ask me." Frostpath couldn't help but agree with him. This was the place where Ashenclaw had met that AsterClan she-cat. Her fur began to bristle at the thought of it. She and the older warrior sat at the edge of the clearing, away from everyone else, waiting for the Gathering to end although they had just arrived.

"It's so huge..." Daisypaw whispered, gaping at the throng of cats. Foxpaw scoffed, "You're not scared, are you? It's not that bad, honestly." An expression of hurt appeared on his sister's face, and she prodded him hard in the ribs. "I'm not scared!" Birchpaw watched his two siblings with amusement before mewing, "Come on, let's just go find other apprentices to talk to."

Spiderstar looked at the new clans leader and smiled. "first gathering for us too. Would you like Swallowclan and Rippleclan to form an alliance?" he asked.

"I know I am," Sorrelstar told Morningstar firmly. She just had to be. Then the tabby turned to Ashenclaw and Tanwystar, nodding gratefully at each of them for supporting her cause. "No kits will be harmed, I will make sure of that," she promised, "Maybe with such a big group Sagestar will just hand her over without a fight." The tabby threw the last part in for Onyxstar's benefit but she dipped her head to the black leader as if to indicate she understood. Then she steeped forwards to make her own announcements. "Prey has run remarkably well this leafbare and Beechclan has thrived with new kits to show for it. But one thing keeps this season from being perfect, our medicine cat was recently murdered by Russetleaf of Tumbleclan. Thanks to our allies's support we hope to rid the forest, including Tumbleclan, of her menace." With that warning given she stepped back among the others. No time for new allies tonight.

"Am I supposed to go with her?" Even now, Sleetfoot was uncomfortable with his position as deputy, and he shifted his paws awkwardly as he watched Sorrelstar and her entourage disappear. He probably was, backing their leader was something deputies did right? "Cedarslash, what do you think?" The tom nudged his mate who startled back into reality with a, "Hmm?" Sleetfoot searched her russet face as it turned to him, reading into the tired etched lines. "Are you okay? You seem pretty out of it." Cedarslash nodded haltingly. "Yeah," she breathed, "Just tired. I'll ask Skun- Asptail about it later." Sleetfoot's woory was far from assuaged but he pressed against her side and mewed, "Okay, well I think I'll stick with you then. Unless you don't want me to?" The she-cat snickered, "Oh no! Anything but Sleetfoot the feline burr!" She thwacked his side goodnaturedly and made as to push him off. He retaliated by leaning heavily against her. "Haha! You can't get rid of me that easily! You're stuck with me!" But Cedarslash gave a gasp and toppled over, dragging her mate down with her. But the grin on her muzzle said she was alright.

After a long journey in which Burntsoul was practically plastered to his side, chatting on about who knows what, Webwing was actually very relieved when she stalked off to go play witness. Immediately he felt guilty for the thought, Burntsoul didn't exactly have any friends besides him, and Malloweyes's didn't count. But sometimes even the nearly deaf tom couldn't hear himself think around her, and now she was pressing closer and closer and it was weird. The warrior found himself scanning the gathering for a sign of a familiar face in the crowd. With the spiders all hiding out for the winter Webwing had taken to frost fortune telling, and the cold swirls had told him that hanging out with Smoothpaw more wouldn't be a bad idea.

Barkknot wasn't sure why Sparksong was following her around, surely the chatty she-cat would have had better things to do, like stay back at camp with Claywhistle or something. For some reason through she had begged to come to the gathering and then decided to tail poor Barkknot who would really just like her to go away please. "So how do gatherings usually go? We're supposed to make friends yeah? Claywhistle told me all about the game but Sorrelstar doesn't seem to be playing it. o you have a lot of out of clan friends?" Ignoring everything that was spewing out of the orange tabby's mouth didn't seem to be an effective strategy, so Barkknot sighed and finally gave an answer. "No, just one." Just thinking about Tanglestep made her feel a little giddy, and the warrior began to actively search the clearing for any sign of the muscular tom.

Jaystar was in no rush to get to the gathering, nor did any of the cats joining her today. They all looked drained of life, darn I say it, they looked Soulless. Mudpaw's death had hit them hard, the leader and the deputy especially. Though it seemed as if the sister of the lost victim was taking it harder. No one said a word as they entered the clearing. Jaystar didn't even give her short briefing as she had always done. How could she tell her clan to 'make merry' when she couldn't even muster a smile? The Soulclan dispersed, hearts heavy and frowns upon their faces.

Jaystar finally mustered thethe strength to step forward, motivated by the pleading Sorrelstar. "Greetings everyone... I wish this could be a happy greeting but it is not. A moon ago my son, a beloved apprentice with a great mind and a gentle heart perished to the claws of nature, falling into the river and drowning. It has taken a toll on us for it was hard to lose some one with so much left to give." She took a pause, catching herself from crying by looking up to the moon. "As regards to you Sorrelstar, this war is not one we Soulclan cats will be joining. We may be allies, yes. You may have the other clans rapped around your paw, but I'm onto your sly ways. We will remain neutral, yes, but do not give me reason to fight alongside your enemy." She gave a slight hiss at the molly, catching her eye in a gaze of distrust and suspicion before looking to the crowd and bowing her head. "That is all." And with that she turned back to sit with Thrushclaw who she forced to stay on the Highrock with her and Squirrelstar.

Aspenleaf walked around, a million thoughts running through her head. The prophecy being the main one. Her eyes drifted around occasionally to give a cautious look to the Beechclan cats as well as her apprentice. Although she would much rather find the other clan guilt to Starclan's prophecy, she just couldn't shake the image of the cat of shadow's that looked so similar to her apprentice... It frightened her way too much..

Genuinely, Hearthflame felt like the weight of the world was crushing him out of spite. Aspenleaf, even during the clan's time of grief, seemed to avoid him completely, as if it was his fault poor Mudpaw died. If only that was the reason, at least he'd know why his mentor treated him this way. It hurt him more than words could explain.. He began to trudge over to the gathered medicine cats but then stopped. If Aspenleaf didn't want him around, why would anyone else? And so he turned and found a small area to sit down and hang his head sadly.

Cypressdawn sighed for what seemed like the dozenth time that night, making Amberstorm beside him nudge him a little, but say nothing. Both knew not what to say to comfort each other. Amberstorm knew Mudpaw well, the little tom always coming her way to complain about his sister. And despite the harsh way he spoke about her, there was clear adoration in his voice, caring and loving. As if they read each other's mind, both warriors found their eyes drifting over to a secluded corner of the clearing where Mistlepaw sat, her pink bow a loud contrast to the dark gloomy air around her..

Tears stained her face as she sat with her head in her paws. In it sat the dark blue ribbon that once belonged to Mudpaw. Mistlepaw had clung to it when they found his body and refused to let it go. She wished she did though for it didn't ease the aching she was feeling for losing her brother. They hated each other, probably the biggest rivals within Soulclan, but under all that hate, she loved him to death. They did everything together and now that would no longer happen. He was gone, he left her alone. "You idiot...who said you could die." She muttered through a cry to the blue ribbon.

Nettlefoot choose to skip the formalities through and simply press herself against the older molly, purring kindly. "Oh its great to see you again. Meet my apprentice Bouncepaw." "Oh my you look way better in person. Nettlefoot told me so much about you. Huge fan!" Thistlethorn could only roll her eyes in amusement, before her eyes narrowed a bit at what was said by Jaystar...

Robinstar's ears pricked. Sorrelstar has found the murderer! This is fantastic news--no more looking for me, she thought enthusiastically. When it was her turn for announcements, she stepped forward briskly. "AspenClan has been growing since the last Gathering. We recently acquired three young apprentices and a queen who happens to be a long-lost littermate of one of our exiting queens. Unfortunately, an apprentice, now Cricketleap, and our medicine cat apprentice, Speckledpaw, have perished in the last two moons. Our cats are dropping like flies," the leader hissed, her eyes flashing with anger rather than grief, "but we are anything but weak. AspenClan will not go down without a fight," she announced steadily. Below, her Clanmattes exchanged concerned glances-- all but Tanglestep, of course. Robinstar's gaze shifted toward Sorrelstar. "If you claim to have found a murderer, that very well may have been the cat who is killing our members. We will stand by BeechClan, even if it means battle," the tall she-cat meowed. Yowls of opposition rose up from members of her own Clan. "Robinstar, this is incredibly unwise. There is no proof that Speckledpaw or Cricketleap's deaths were anything but accidents," Sootpelt called from below. "Silence!" Robinstar ordered, her voice like a thorn. "You have no right to be speaking at this time. I have made my decision," she hissed, before padding back from the edge of the rock.

Tanglestep weaved through the cats, his eyes and nose searching each face and scent. BeechClan was definitely present, but he hadn't yet seen Barkknot. He paused to sniff the air, catching a wisp of her sweet scent amongst the dozens of cat-scents. The dark tom followed it readily, his pace increasing eagerly with each paw step. At last, he spotted her deep brown coat and padded forward eagerly. "Barkknot, there you are! I've been--" Tanglestep's voice cut off as he saw another cat standing beside Barkknot. He cleared his throat, the enthusiasm slowly draining from his face."Good evening," he meowed coolly, his face stoic.

Sootpelt sat contentedly with her tail curled around his paws, listening to the chatter of the other medicine cats when he saw Finchtuft and Ripplepaw approaching the group. He stood up at once, ready to greet his daughter, when Goosepaw and Pebblepaw bounded up to her, grinning wildly. "Ripplepaw, you're here!" "Where are Fennelpaw and Crowpaw? Did they come?" "We miss you guys." "Is the whole Clan freaking out that we're gone?" "What did you tell them?" Pebblepaw finally asked, his eyes widening just slightly in worry. Goosepaw gasped softly. "What if someone sees us here! Mousedung!" he exclaimed, peeking around.

"Sly ways?" Sorrelstar was offended. For once the she cat was being truthful, in her goal in the very least! "I am not making anyone fight, all those who choose are doing so because they know they will be safer without a murderer on the loose." She huffed and turned instead to the better news that came from Robinstar. Thank Starclan for yet another confidant ally! "Thank you Robinstar. I'm sorry for your loss but we will avenge Cricketleap and Speckledpaw. And we will make sure none of this happens again."

Malloweyes was having a hard time keeping Burntsoul from bursting out laughing, even her glares were now use against the wonderful amusing irony before them. Thankfully the arrival of familiar faces distracted them both. "Ah! Thistlethorn, Nettlefoot, great to see you again. And such a pleasure to meet you Bouncepaw, always nice to meet a fan." The elder smiled down at the little flatterer and remarked, "You certainly trained this one well. Oh and do pay no mind to Sorrelstar right now, she's digging herself deeper than I could hope."

"Tanglestep!" Barkknot's excitement was mangled halfway out of her mouth by the amused purring of the she-cat besides her. "So this is your friend? Handsome tom." Barkknot flushed at Sparksong's words. Secretly agree as she might she would like the other Beechclanner to go away now please. She was embarrassingly desperate to know what Tanglestep had been going to say. 'Looking for you?' 'Thinking of you?' 'Wondering if you are actually as stupid as you seem?' Okay so the last one wasn't very likely but still. "Yeah this is him. Umm, could you maybe..." Barkknot trailed off, Sparksong didn't look like she was ready to go anywhere! "Heya mysterious friend of the friendless! My name's Sparksong, nice to meet you!" Friendless? Barkknot shrank down to half her size. She had friends...right?
