Zoticus idly watched the cat, soon reaching up to pet it upon it's head, pleasantly surprised to see the cat allowed him to pet it. "Ten is pretty good for an age." He commented lightly. While he knew cats could very well live a good, long time, for some reason it usually had him surprised to see a cat that was a good, old age. Nevertheless, it was strange to pet something soft. He was so used to something scaley and smooth that something furry and soft had him mildly surprised. As she continued to elaborate on her cat, he continued to gently pet his head. "I've come to learn the best companions are usually found in animals." He murmured, soon glancing over to the small snake who's head had popped up from behind his shirt collar. Charlotte seemed to look to Avery and flick her tongue before beginning to make her way to the man's neck. Obviously, she wanted to rest around one of the warmest spots on his body. "Although I can imagine the hair is annoying."

He rose a brow at her next statement. "A girlfriend would be... interesting. But then you'd have kittens... either that or just very loud, angry cats." He had seen them in the city. They usually just screamed at each other by what he had seen. "Although I have a hard time finding him a nuisance, especially when he's usually in your room." Even now, with the cat on his bed, he didn't mind the creature's company. However, her last comment soon had him looking to her, a smaller frown upon his own face. "You don't sound like you're okay with that."

"Yeah, he's getting up there, that's for sure." Avery nodded as she watched the orange tabby. He had been her childhood friend. The one who was always there for her, no matter the circumstances. The one who had always lain atop of her homework at the most inconvienant times. "I agree. People tend to cheat, lie, decieve me. Animals don't even do that. At all. They're innocent, sweet creatures who enjoy affection." She murmured. "the hair is annoying, but it's something I get over, as long as I brush him up everyday. Or it gets everywhere."

The girl ran a hand over the cat's back and up his tail. "I don't have anything against kittens. And he really isn't a nuisance, but everyone else that lives here overruled me, saying I wouldn't take care of another cat. That was a few years ago, but I gave up trying to ask for things I genuinely want."

Zoticus quietly watched the cat as well, as he settled down on one side of the bed, his snake gently wrapped around his neck now with a content look in her eye. A nod was the reward for her next comment, and he couldn’t help but huff afterwards. “Good thing you’re not allergic. That fur would only be worse, then.”

Her comment on her family, however, had him frowning. It was still unfair, the treatment she spoke of when it came to them, and yet there really wasn’t much he could do about it. As a man, he wanted to fix it, make it better, stop the problem. But… this was still only his first day, and he still had to get to know how things were going to be in this house… and still play his part, for as long as he needed. “I’m sorry to hear of your plight.” He murmured and shook his head, only to rise to his feet. He walked over to the tank that he had cleaned up for his snake, and soon put her inside, flicking a nearby lamp on as he did so. A heat lamp, to keep her warm. Only afterwards did he glance at his watch. “When was that party to start again? I wouldn’t want you to be late.” He would take no time at all, for he was already rather well dressed.

"If I was allergic, that would mean the entire house would have to be cleaned, and we'd have to get rid of Squeakers." Avery said as she played with one of her curls. the girl went quiet for a moment, seeming to think, a sad expression on her face before she snapped back into reality. "Yeah no, I should stop sharing my personal problems with you. You're only my bodyguard, and within a few months you'l probably just leave." She shrugged.

"It starts in about an hour, formal attire. I guess I should start to get ready though it won't take me long. Dad wants us to be social apparently. So, that means I have to be there. Food, Dancing, talking, you know the basics of a party. I'll go get ready. See you in a bit."

The admission she gave, along with a shrug, only had him looking to her incredulously. He didn’t know what to say to that. She was right, though she didn’t really know it, in a way. “I don’t mind you sharing what you wish, it’s just a little difficult to relate, as my family background is vastly different than yours. That… and it’s just difficult to hear what you struggle with and I am here, unable to assist.” The more she spoke about her life, the more messed up it really seemed.

As the party was brought up, he glanced to his watch before nodding to her. “I can escort you to the party. If you become people weary, we can always come up with an excuse for you to leave.” He commented nonchalantly, soon just nodding to her before watching her go. In the meantime he freshened up a bit and slicked his fair hair back some to give it an extra edge of flair. Only afterwards would he settle upon his bed, quietly waiting for Avery to finish. He was intent on escorting her unless she did not want him to escort her.

"Well yeah, it's pretty different." Avery shrugged. "You get used to it. It's not too terrible as long as I stay away from specific people. I'm gonna go get ready, I'll be back in about ten minutes." She smiled, and stepped out of the room, across the hall towards her own room to get ready. After a bit, the sound of her bedroom door could be heard opening and closing. "Ready to go?" Avery asked as she knocked on the frame of his bedroom door. "Charlotte's not coming with us, is she?"

Ten minutes? Hm... a lot shorter than he would have originally thought. Nevertheless, Zoticus nodded and remained in his room to wait. By the time she was done, the bodyguard had his nose in a book; The Swamp Fox. The knock at his door frame only had him perking, soon blinking a moment at the dress the girl was wearing before closing his book with a 'wumph'. A pale hand placed the book onto the nearby before fixing his sunglasses, clearing his throat shortly after he fixed his tie and rose to his feet. He couldn't help but oggle her a little, that dress did fit her nicely, the blue color pleasantly complimenting her curly locks. The question of Charlotte didn't seem to register for a little longer than necessary, though, and all he could do was clear his throat again. "Ah, uh, no. She's in her tank currently." Goodness, Avery looked even more like her now. He had to keep his head in the game. Keep it together, Zoticus.

He was at her side within a couple strides, he soon shutting his door before offering her his arm. His suit still looked as pristine as it had the day, barely a creese or stain. "I must admit, I didn't think you'd be wearing that kind of dress." He idly commented, glancing her up and down. "You seem like you'd wear something a little more cozy. You might catch cold, are you sure you don't want a jacket?"

“Okay, didn’t know if she was a party snake or not.” Avery smiled cheekily as she took his arm. “Well normally I wouldn’t have to wear something so fancy, but I don’t get much of a choice of what I wear to parties. They’ve made me wear some pretty short, tight dresses. And I can’t really get out of it, can’t lose things I like to do and have.” She shrugged, looking down at her feet, as if she was worried to accidentally trip over her dress. “You’re looking nice and dapper, comfortable too. Wish I could wear a pantsuit or something else, you know, less revealing, that isn’t showing my collarbone and all.”

The girl muttered, pulling at the dress straps with one hand. “It’s fine, I’ll get over it. So uh, when the dancing stuff starts, would you dance with me? So I don’t have to dance with some rando guy that asks me himself? I don’t really wanna meet new people right now. I’ll be cold later, I’m fine for now. I don’t get sick very often, just get lots of bruises and stuff from tripping, and falling, and uh climbing on things..”

Her cheeky remark was rewarded with an amused huff from the man at her side. However, as she continued he could only frown at her comments. Goodness, her family was quite domineering, weren’t they? She sure made it out like they were. Nevertheless, glasses reflected her silhouette as he listened to her, giving her the attention, despite the fact his eyes were left unseen. A small smirk played on his lips as she mentioned his own clothing, he soon nodding shortly afterwards. “I can always borrow you my jacket.” He offered idly. It would keep her a little warmer then, and perhaps cover her a little bit more as well.

Her question had him glancing at Avery from the side as he lead her through the halls, the color of his eyes flickering in the light for only a moment, revealing the ridiculously light color before he looked ahead. “I’d be honored to dance with you.” He gave in response, a smaller smile remaining on his face. “If anyone asks, just tell them you’ve already a dance partner, or come to me if I am not already with you.” The mention of bruises however, he frowned. “Remain close to me. I will do my best to keep you from falling.” He didn’t want her hurt, nor making a fool of herself. Goodness knew that she didn’t need anything like that when her life already seemed rough. “Use me to your advantage, I am your bodyguard, your friend and your tool.”

“Okay, well the party room is typically pretty warm, but other times it’s freezing cold, that’s one things dads parties dont have. Temperature control.” Avery shrugged as the two neared the dining room, no the sound of guests and other partygoers could be heard from there. “Oh please, I naturally trip and stuff, almost like it’s a thing, now. I’ve learned to adapt to it, even taught myself to do a somersault when I do fall, to make it look a little less clumsy.”

She seemed to appear nervous, as they neared the hall. “You’re my friend, I don’t want to use you to advantage, you’re a human being, not a tool. And, you’ve got rights, so I’m not going to do that, no offense to you.”
