Ruelle glanced around the wide, grassy clearing, her eyes bright. "This looks like a perfect camp to me," she said approvingly, glancing around at the rest of the pack, or at least those who weren't out exploring their potential new territory. The clearing was located snugly deep in the forest, safe as could be, and from what she had seen prey was aplenty.

"Quiet!" Averill hissed suddenly, his tone unusually sharp. His eyes were still fixed dead ahead, his head lowered and ears angled forward quizzically. Taking a careful pawstep forward, his nostrils flaring, his head abruptly shot upright and he turned to the rest of the patrol. "Strange wolves nearby." His growl was low and wary.

Kris trotted around the perimeter of the clearing Ruelle was inspecting, sniffing here and there curiously. All in all, it seemed like a good place, and he had already found a good-sized hollow tree for him to hide out in. Growing bored, he padded off into the undergrowth alone, hoping to find an unwary squirrel to munch on.

Kyiera had been satisfied with the their chosen resting spot at first, but upon hearing Averill's warning hiss, she immediately sniffed the air and found out he was right. She was outraged at herself - how had she been so ignorant of that? As the seconds ticked by, she quickly weighed her options - her pack was too tired to run to a new site, which meant that they could also possibly be too tired to fight. "Get into formation, and be ready to attack or retreat at my command." Worse comes to worse, she would sacrifice herself so that her pack would be able to get away.

Randir

Randir allowed a whined to escape him before grouping together with the others, his form poised and ready to attack. He wasn't built for brute strength, but for his pack, he would swallow up that fear and take it like a brute. Not to mention the fact that he had to protect Mirri as well.

Chaser

Chaser snarled in delight - he had been getting antsy the past few days, and finally his release came in the form of a rival pack. He already knew what their alpha was thinking, but if anywolf was going to sacrifice themself, he preferred that he be the one to lay his life down - he was old, and his life wasn't getting easier.

At Kyiera's sharp command, the small group shuffled into a tight circle, the fighters especially tense. Averill cast a quick look around nervously, knowing they couldn't spare a wolf to alert the others who were still back at the clearing with Ruelle. Just then, a large tawny-furred brute stalked menacingly out of the trees, his fangs bared and cruel amusement in his gaze. "What have we here?" he asked casually, as a few other wolves slipped into view after him. Averill bristled, holding back his snarl, one ear angled towards Kyiera.

It wasn't long before unfamiliar wolf scent caught his attention. Kris let out an involuntary whine as he sniffed the air; best to get out of there as fast as possible. Wolves didn't take captives, least of all a useless omega. Lowering his head, he turned back the way he had come, but a couple of familiar voices drifted faintly to him. Kyiera's scouting patrol? Crouching, the black wolf crawled towards the hostile-sounding growls, his heart pumping in his ears.

Mentally, Kyiera calculated the speed at which Randir traveled - he was the fastest one the had in their current party. "Randir - alert Ruelle and the others," she told him, her voice soft, but she knew that he had heard her anyways. "We have no wish to fight you," the alpha declared, her entire form emanating authority. If these wolves thought that her pack was going to be easy, they had another thing coming. "Now, Randir," she hissed before leveling her gaze with the tawny brute.

Quick as the wind, Randir fled to where the others were and quickly relayed the situation to Ruelle. He had no idea if the others were fighting right now, but he had to do what his alpha told him to. The decision of whether the rest of the pack fought or fled lied on their beta's shoulders - if she wanted to join their leader, then the rest of them had no choice but to follow.

Ruelle was debating the possibility of flooding in their new home with Lyall when Randir crashed into view, his eyes wide and pelt on end from all the bushes he seemed to have recklessly ran through. "Randir, what...?" She stiffened with alarm as he described the current situation between pants, seemingly more frantic than tired. Her gaze sweeping around the clearing, the fae's eyes narrowed and her growl was low but commanding. "Show me where they are. Perhaps we can reach a truce, or frighten them with a show of force. Come on, Lyall." Without hesitation, she plunged into the forest after the hunter.

Averill watched Randir dash off out of the corner of his eye, hardly daring to crane his neck around to look at the others. They weren't outnumbered by much, but it was enough to skew the fight in the other pack's favour. The large brute, probably the alpha, snorted derisively at Kyiera's words, his eyes bright with malice. "You think you can waltz into our forest and settle down without a fight?" he spat, lowering his head and fixing the the small circle with a cold glare. "Either leave now, or we'll make you." His words rung with finality, hanging tensely in the air between the two packs.

Kris' eyes widened as the other brute retorted something to Kyiera, his ears flattening nervously even though he was well-hidden in the bushes. He tail swept nervously from side to side, making the leaves rustle, mirroring his indecisive state of mind. Should he stand and fight with his pack? He didn't like them much, but he'd still grown up with most of them. Besides, Accalia was with them, and somehow worry filled him when he pictured her slender form wrestling with another wolf's.

"We were passing through - we didn't know that the territory had already been claimed." Her words were true - it had rained heavily the night before so any scent marks would have dulled by then. Kyiera had half a mind to lunge at the male and rip his head off, but she forced herself to remain calm and think about the good of the pack - if she were to do that, she could endanger her entire family, and she didn't want that. However, she could probably take the brute down by herself - she'd just be exhausted afterwards. 'But, considering the fact that he doesn't look like the type to simply allow wolves to just leave his territory, we might have to fight,' she thought to herself.

Randir nodded and ran ahead of Ruelle and the others, leading them to the rest of the pack. Upon catching sight of their alpha's distinct white coat, he sped up and returned to his former position. "I brought Ruelle," he whispered to Kyiera, and barely caught her nod of acknowledgement - he was so tense.

Chaser

Chaser held down a growl - if Kyiera wasn't willing to fight, then he had no right to do so. However, he felt that whatever course of action they took, the brute alpha would engage them in combat anyways. He wanted to tell their alpha this, but then realized how far he was from her and decided otherwise - she was smart, she could probably figure it out herself.

Ruelle found the rest of the pack facing off against a slightly larger pack led by a vicious-looking tan wolf. She halted by Kyiera's side, stiffening her legs and glaring at the enemy wolves with narrowed eyes. The other alpha seemed to be itching for a fight, and a confrontation seemed unavoidable. Even though their arrival had evened out the numbers a little, their pack was still tired from travelling and definitely in no shape to fight. We should back down, she thought uneasily, but she couldn't see them being allowed to leave so easily.

Averill breathed a sigh of relief when Randir returned with Lyall and Ruelle; it was always better when the pack was together as one. His attention returned to the enemy brute, who had sneered rather unpleasantly at Kyiera's words. "How about a proposition," he suggested, his tone snide. "Why don't you all join my pack, and we can all live happily?" There didn't seem to be the offered option of 'no', but Averill balked at his words, resisting the urge to snarl that he wouldn't join him even if his tail was bitten off. It wasn't his place to retort, and doing so would only make things worse.

When the other alpha mentioned a merger, Kyiera's guard immediately went up - he had nothing to gain from them, unless of course, he was looking for a mate. And she did NOT want to be on his list of potential mates (not when she had a very discrete crush on Averill, but that wasn't the point). Trying to keep her tone down, she turned down the offer. "You have nothing to gain from us, and we have nothing to gain from you - with your permission, we would like to depart," she replied, ever the diplomat. However, it was evident from her posture that she was not calm at all - only certain wolves would be able to detect the tenseness in her body, and the irritation she was radiating.
