Caspian slid down the crumbly rocks on his feet, and landed at the riverside. "Hey, why haven't you tried this yourself?" He called up to the boy, turning to face him.
He was peering over the cliff, staring at the river. "I don't like the water."
That was quite different from Caspian. He loved the water, but he wasn't sure about this river. The currently was strong, and the drum looked like it was in deep. He inched towards the river, and decided to just go for it. He stepped into the water, and fought against the current to stay on his feet. He had no desire to drown, and no desire to be rolling down the river and look stupid in front of this random boy he was trying to help. Caspian rolled his eyes. Why was he doing this, anyways? Oh well. He was already in the river, soaking his black shoes.
He moved further into the river to where the drum was, and leaned down to pick it up. He grabbed the brim of the fancy drum and pulled. It was stuck tight in the rocks.

Váli caught sight of Pol and hurried down the stairs. They slipped on the worn tennis shoes that they had on earlier and stepped out of the house, heading straight for his front yard. They shoved their hands into the front pocket of their sweatshirt and quirked an eyebrow at Pol. "So, what were you buying all of that stuff for?" they asked. What a way to start a conversation.

Váli caught sight of Pol and hurried down the stairs. They slipped on the worn tennis shoes that they had on earlier and stepped out of the house, heading straight for his front yard. They shoved their hands into the front pocket of their sweatshirt and quirked an eyebrow at Pol. "So, what were you buying all of that stuff for?" they asked. What a way to start a conversation.

Pol hopped off the ground. He grinned. Váli had this really entertaining eyebrow that kept wiggling.
"Come on," Pol said, "let me show you."
He led Váli over to the side gate in his fence. Popping the latch, he slowly pushed it wide open. In the backyard, Pol had carefully sculpted rolling hills covered with various types of moss. Large, smooth stones sat among the hills, accenting trickling steams which wove through the garden. Simple gravel paths made serene patterns in the garden and led to Pol's back porch where a hammock hung.
Pol looked over at Váli to see their reaction. "I know I can be hyper and talkative," he said, "but I'm very introverted. This garden is one of my favorite places. It's also why I haven't met anyone here." Pol reached up to scratch his ear. "I've kinda spent all my time recreating my garden."

Caspian tried again, and pulled the drum. It didn't budge.
He knelt down into the water, cursing himself for what he was doing, and pulled the drum hard. It began to come unstuck. He sat down on his knees into the water and the water was rising halfway up to his shoulder he then sighed, before shoving his head underwater to see the drum, and wiggled it free. He pulled himself out out of the river, dragging the drum onto the shore. He walked back up the hill and sat down in front of the other boy, setting the drum down between them. He was breathing heavily and dripping with water, but he felt quite proud of himself.
The other boy was smiling, examining the drum. Then he looked up at Caspian and held out his hand. "I'm Orion." He said.
Caspian shook his hand. "Caspian." He said.

Váli allowed themself to be led into the garden. As soon as their gaze traveled to the ground, their breath hitched in their throat. They hadn't expected him to be able to something like this; not that they had doubted his abilities. All Váli could do was clamp their hands over their mouth and murmur, "It's beautiful," into their skin. After a few moments, they let their hands fall from their mouth and turned to look at Pol. "You're very talented." they complemented and tried to hide the faint flush on their cheeks. "Seriously, it's amazing." they murmured.

Váli allowed themself to be led into the garden. As soon as their gaze traveled to the ground, their breath hitched in their throat. Pol beamed. Váli's praise sent a warm glow rushing through his body. He'd secretly been a tad nervous sharing his garden. It was really comforting to know that he needn't have worried.
"Thank you! I'm really glad you like it." Pol reached down to pick up the tiny pot he'd brought with him. "Actually, since you said you do like moss, I made you this." He held out a miniature pot, planted with five different types of moss. In the center sat two complimentary pebbles, both intricately painted with a metallic black paint. "It's a mini zen garden. Just like mine."

Váli's hands twitched to move back to cover their mouth, but they kept them at their sides. "For me?" they asked, quirking an eyebrow at Pol. Was this his idea of meeting the neighbors? Of course, it was beautiful and Váli was captivated by what he was going them, but they felt that not everyone would appreciate the work. Though, they kept this to themself. He'd put so much work into it and they didn't want to crush his feelings.

"Yup!" Pol said. "I got a bunch of little pots and moss. Actually, I need to finish a spot here in the big garden, but I thought taking little missy pots door-to-door would be a good way to introduce myself to everyone. What do you think?" He stared at Váli expectantly.

They smiled softly and took the pot from his hands, moving their gaze to the moss,avoiding Pol's gaze. "I think they'll love it. You made a good impression on me, so I don't think it'll be too hard. Even just walking from door-to-door and introducing yourself would be nice." they replied, brushing their fingertips against the soft moss. Perhaps, they would visit Pol more often. He seemed like a trustworthy friend to them.
