Jonathan grinned apologetically when Aurora stumbled. "Too excited!" he exclaimed, turning to give Roland a dirty look when he heard the other boy call him Jonnie. What kind of name was Jonnie? Grabbing the remaining meat from his friend, Jonathan picked up another of Roland's spears and parried his blows quickly. They had mock-fought so many times like this he could do it with his eyes closed. Finally, they set off for real and Jonathan began biting on a piece of meat as they walked along the beach.
"A cave would be good," he mentioned through a mouthful of meat, "if there're no bears inside." He peered around; so far all he saw was sand and trees. They would have to go into the jungle at some point, and Jonathan smirked at that thought. It was awfully tedious and tiring to push through all the branches and bushes, but it gave a real sense of adventure. Now they were really exploring an uninhabited island and it was completely surreal. "Seems to be the same all they way, let's go through the jungle and see how big it is," he suggested. "If we get lost we'll just come out the other side." He laughed excitedly.

Serene giggled as Roland tried to speak with his mouth full, waving goodbye as the two men left. She raised an eyebrow at their 'swordfight', rolling her eyes fondly. Boys will always be boys, she thought, amused. It was something her mother had always told her. Serene took the packet from Aurora, thanking her before biting into the meat. It was tougher than what she was used to, but the flavour was strong and not bad at all. Between mouthfuls, she scraped at the wood with the stone, pleased to see a slightly sharper edge was emerging from the originally blunt tip. Looking over at the bones, she asked, "How're you going to grind those? We have rocks but no bowls. Will the leaves work?"
After a while, though, the heat got intolerable for Serene and she brought her tools over to the tent. She sat half in the tent, with her legs sticking out as she worked slowly on the spear. It was almost finished, sharpened to a point, and she figured she could start on another. "How's this?" she called, sticking her hand out of the tent and waving the spear around happily.
