Arsenic's ears twitched back and forth as he waited for Valiant's response, he was listening for anything out of the ordinary. If Aries was here then nothing good would be coming for the herd, and Arsenic was definitely not looking forward to having to face his brutal sire again.
He vaguely registered that Valiant was replying positively to his petition for her to stay, and he felt enormously pleased at that, even though he did detect perhaps a trace of annoyance in her voice, no doubt because she didn't like the fact that his words had bordered on almost a command.
Arsenic fully clued in to here two things, first was that she liked it here for multiple reasons -and the suggestiveness of that statement pleased him enormously- and the second was her request to see his mother.
Arsenic nearly choked with shock at that casually tossed out request, if Valiant knew what was good for her she'd rescind that. Immediately. "Uhhh, I don't exactly recommend meeting my mother, Nightlock isn't exactly the sort of mare most want to be....associated with." Truth be told, if Arsenic could have left her out in the desert to her own devices he would have done so, but his granddam Calista had insisted on fetching Nightlock, plus he had been in need of a decent defender for the herd.
Turning his ruby eyes onto Valiant for a long moment he tried to find some other activity the two of them could do, anything to distract her from the idiotic notion of meeting his mother. "Instead why don't we...." He paused, still wracking his mind for a suitable alternative, it hit him soon after, "-go on a brief tour of the oasis, I'll show you where the herd tends to congregate." He'd kill two birds with one stone, distract Valiant from meeting his mother, and get to survey the territory to see what he could learn about their situation.

Nightlock rolled her eyes at Bander's reaction to her revelation about the banshee's, he was looking around like a frightened hare, as though a wailing horse spirit might spring forth from the dunes at any moment. "Haven't seen such a skittish foal since that colt I ran into in the desert." She muttered under her breath to herself, Bander did indeed almost resemble that colt. A panicky foal, who had jumped at the smallest things for no good reason. Such pathetic lifeforms should be terminated, rid the desert of their weak genes. Even though you did save him in the end. Her mind whispered traitorously at her, yet Nightlock brushed those thoughts away, her brief moment of pity had been a lapse in character and nothing more.
She could scarcely believe it when the cheeky colt suggested her joining him, and then had the brazen idiocy to attempt to blackmail her by promising not to pester her if she did as he said! On principle alone she should refuse him, no one told her what to do, let alone some colt who was barely breaching adulthood! Yet his next proposal of a race piqued her interest, there was no-horse swifter than her, of that she was certain. Besides, it would be good exercise for her perhaps. Weighing her options Nightlock decided it was a safe bet...now she just had to hope that she could find a deep pool of water in the area she had indicated.
Studying the colt she shrugged, "Alright young colt, I agree to your terms. Though be warned, I've been racing against the desert wind since I was a foal who could barely stand." Then without waiting for him to signal the start of the race she began to take off, racing at a full gallop towards the swiftly growing oasis.

Calista nipped a few mouthfuls of green grass as she walked at an easy pace through the oasis, she had a wonderful feeling of peace and relaxation filling her as she went along, it came with being part of an accepting herd, that was a truth that she had discovered almost too late. A pity it was really, that she hadn't had the love and acceptance of her foalhood herd, things would likely have been very different for her if they had been accepting.
Heaving a sigh Calista tossed her mane and pushed the unhappy memories of the past to their grave where the belonged. That part of her life was over, and thanks to her grandcolt Arsenic she would live out the rest of her days in relative peace. Now if only Nightlock could learn to enjoy life a little. She mused ruefully to herself, yet Nightlock was too much like her mother for that, nothing but a hot-blooded, foul tempered, and far too independent mare. One who refused to be aided or befriended by anyone.
Huffing slightly Calista shook her head and wondered what it would take to cure Nightlock of her boorish personality, "Well thats easy," She said to herself with an amused snort, "All that mare needs is a good stallion!" She snorted with a chortle, it was the simple truth, whether Nightlock liked it or not.
At that moment though a polite and friendly 'hello' greeted her ears, and swiveling her head Calista locked her eyes onto Phantom, a scout for the herd if she wasn't mistaken, nodding her head politely Calista offered him her own friendly smile. "Greetings, Phantom isn't it? Lovely day today, the grass seems to taste much sweeter for whatever reason." She said cheerfully, shooting the younger stallion another warm smile of friendship.
