benji nodded as well. "i prefer just.. staying home. i don't like talking to people," he told her. he sighed quietly and looked around again."i got rid of all of my memories from school after i graduated. so i don't like to remember things from it, if you can't tell," he informed sophia. "i always just- hated it, i guess. made me upset."

Sophie looked over at him again after a couple of minutes, watching him curiously. She tilted her head "Why didn't you like it?" she asked, looking back at her feet again. She didn't like high school much either, too many rules, too many teachers. Then again, she had a tendency to have a problem with authority figures. She was happier outside of school, more freedom, but she was sure that that wasn't why he disliked it. She was glad to be getting to know him now, it only took them multiple years to finally even have a conversation.

benji shrugged a little bit. "i don't like having to change myself to everyone else's expectations. i always wanted to seem like i was someone who fit in," he told sophia. "it's not as much as a problem now as it was before. i still hate changing for people, but i don't have to do it as much." why was he already telling her this? he shouldn't be this open to people. he never was before. why is he starting to now? he needed to stop talking about how he felt.

Sophie listened to him, and nodded to show she was listening. She understood how he felt and she often felt the same way, it was relatable. “I get that, I hate that people don’t like those that think differently.” she said as she looked away again. “That’s why I always had problems in school, I’m different, I don’t conform. And, people don’t like that.” she said with a shake of her head. She wondered why it seemed so easy to talk to him about this stuff, she wasn’t open to people unless it was Cassie. And he wasn’t Cassie.

benji sighed heavily. "i don't really wanna get too into it other than that, if that's okay," he finally mentioned, stopping himself from carrying on the conversation. he didn't want to spill all of his feelings to her already, he barely knew her. they'd known about each others presence, sure, but they hadn't really interacted. mainly because they weren't allowed to, probably. if they were allowed to talk to each other, would they have even talked? benji wasn't even sure.

Sophie nodded in understanding “Right, okay.” she murmured as she averted her gaze. Anywhere but on him. Her feelings were confusing, confusing to her. Really confusing. Why did it matter that he didn’t want to talk about it? She wasn’t sure, but it bothered her. And, that wasn’t okay. It wasn’t okay. She shouldn’t have been telling him anything to begin with, that’s how people get close. And, if he gets close, he’ll just leave. She bit her lip gently as her thoughts spiraled like they usually did, causing her to panic slightly. She shifted nervously “Uh, I’m going to go to the bathroom, I’ll be back.” she told him quietly before picking herself up off the ground and walking to find the bathroom. Well, it was more of a speed walk. Once she was alone in the bathroom, she looked at herself in the mirror. “Get a grip. What is the matter with you? Dumb stuff like that shouldn’t bother you.” she whispered to herself, trying to talk her heart rate down. Was that weird? It didn’t matter now.

benji nodded. "okay. i'll be here, probably," he informed her. he hugged his knees and looked around once more. he didn't think she was going to just leave him there, but maybe she would. maybe that was why his mother told him not to talk to her. but he didn't get that feel from her. it could still be a possibility, though, he was sure. he doubted it would happen, but what if it did? he just didn't want to be left here in an unfamiliar place all alone. who knows how bad he'd panic if that happened?

After a few minutes of Sophie talking herself down and taking deep breaths, she had decreased her heart rate again. She still had no idea what he deal was, but it needed to stop. She sighed softly at herself and rolled her eyes, she was ridiculous and she knew it. She walked back out of the bathroom and returned to pool, plopping herself back down beside Benji and took a sip of her tea. “I’m back,” she said, not like he hadn’t already seen her sit down. She mentally facepalmed, that was awkward. “Anything exciting happen out here while I was gone?” she asked, looking over at him with a little joking smile. She knew nothing had happened, this was probably one of the most docile parties she had been to in a while.

benji looked over at sohpia. "welcome back," he greeted, then internally groaned at himself. why did he have to say that, of all things? he could have chosen anything, but of all things, he said that. "nothing interesting. just the same stuff as before. people sitting around and talking, you know," he replied to her question. he gave a small sigh and looked back ahead.

Sophie smiled a little at his response before nodding along to his words. She had to admit that the party wasn’t as exciting as normal ones were, but it was probably a good one for him to come to. She glanced down at her watch to see what time it read; 11:00. It had already been an hour and a half. “We probably won’t stay too much longer, Cassie and I don’t particularly like to stay that long at these things,” she told him as she looked back over at him, hoping he was okay with it. He probably was, probably wasn’t enjoying the party much anyway.
