Gabrielle squealed with joy, quickly wrapping the birthday girl in a tight hug. "Hey, Marie! Happy birthday!" She giggled, noticing Abel. "Hi Abel," Gabry said, when she pulled away from Marie. She knew her little brother enough that she could say 'hi' without it being odd.

With a deep sigh, Halim trailed behind his little brother, who refused to go talk to the birthday girl without Halim's support. In truth, he hadn't wanted to come to the party in the first place. He could be at home right now eating some fruit or something and catching up on some reading.
"Gabrielle," Halim nodded politely, recognizing the girl from school, although he doubted she would remember his name [but to be fair, her name was all he remembered about her]. Like in any place, he tended to fade into a background. He turned his attention to Marie and said, "Happy birthday, Marie. Thank you for inviting me. Have you met my brother, Kareem?" He gave Kareem a little nudge in the back to speak to Marie. While he babbled something unintelligible that Halim assumed was supposed to be an introduction, Halim asked Gabrielle conversationally, "So that paper. Have you done anything on it yet?"

Gabrielle heard another voice. "Oh, hey Halim," she said. Gabrielle was blessed with a knack for names. But that's just about it.
She watched his brother, stepping away from Marie so he could talk to her better. But when Halim spoke again, she looked back at him. "Paper?" She asked, suddenly remembering the one he was talking about. "Oh. That one. Absolutely not. I plan on procrastinating -- as usual -- until the night before. That's usually when I get the highest grade," she said, shrugging.

Halim backed up a little himself to let Kareem humiliate himself with a bit more privacy. He smiled a little as he heard Gabrielle's reply and said to her, "Then I'm sure you'll receive a fine grade. You got his email saying the due date changed to tomorrow, right?" From the way she was speaking, it sounded like she thought it wasn't due for another day or two at least. As he waited for her response, Halim glanced around. There was a decent turnout, but so far the main source of entertainment that were trademark to parties was missing.

Gabrielle promptly swore. "I knew there was a catch. Oh well. I can always get a failure. There's that fine line between procrastination and idiocy. I think I crossed it."

Lake is a carnivore who devours life and breathes energy and vitality. He is a young man in a hurry, who walks fast and likes to take four stairs at a time. Impulsive and impatient, he waits for no one. He is an Aries, born to live in the present and in fast action. He charges headfirst like a ram, without taking time to think. This leaves Lake to have a tendency to learn the hard way. However, Lake is not afraid to fight and is committed to facing and overcoming his fears. His courage leads him to places other fear to tread and he is eager to take on any challenges. He has a daredevil influence and is always tempted by multiple adventures as his need for excitement pushes him into new territory. Lake dislikes rules and restrictions and has a difficult time being social. He is, however, well-mannered, kind, and even helpful when he is not in a bad mood. Lake is observant and incredibly tense, which is often reflected in his look.

History »
As a young child, Lake bubbled with life like the rebirth of nature in spring. He was, and still is, an adventurous young man who loves the outdoors. Growing up with great vast Canadian wilderness at his doorstep, Lake will always want to be outside in the fresh air and beneath the stars. Both his parents are in the military and that is what he has planned to do once he is old and mature enough. When his parents were away he would miss them but there was always neighbors, friends, or family around to look after him.

Current Situation »
Lake recently moved from Canada to live with his uncle since he decided to work for him and take better schooling. He misses Canada in just the few short weeks he left, but the barn his uncle runs does make up for it a bit, as Lake gets to take his horse out for rides when he doesn't have to work. For him, school is about a half an hour drive to the city, but he doesn't mind and he's already met several people at school who share the same interest for sports.

Power Details »
Lake is a dog shapeshifter. His wild side, as he likes to call it, is a grey Siberian husky. Lake has the ability to shift into his other half at any time. However, constant shifts between human form and dog form are dangerous because of the amount of energy the shifts require. With practice, the shifts will become faster, easier, and less painful. For now Lake must suffer a five minute, painful change from human to dog, and vice versa. Also, depending on how he shifts to dog, his clothes will either rip or fall off, and when shifting back to human he will be required to find clothing. Sometimes animal quirks can appear after a shift to human form. Lake may tend to have a craving for steak or any other sort of meat, along with an odd feeling to chase things and stick his head out of windows when travelling in a car. This too, in time can be controlled, along with a more rein on when he shifts, as sometimes Lake can instinctively shift to dog. In dog form, Lake may forget what he is doing and be easily distracted by a Frisbee. Being a shapeshifter allows Lake to have enhanced smell and hearing when in human form.

Belated, Danny wished he'd brought a present. Too late for that now, and what did Marie like anyway? He jerked his thumb through the door. "Je suppose que she's inside." He grinned and opened the door into the shop for her. "After you," he offered.

Marie, like a resonating bell, squealed along with Gabry. "Thanks!" She flicked her gaze towards Halim and turned marginally away from Gabry to speak with him. "Of course," she answered Halim, and put her hand out for his little brother to shake. "It's lovely to meet you, Kareem," she told him.

"You too!" the boy looked incredibly nervous to be shaking her hand, swallowing rapidly and adding. "I mean, I've seen you around, a lot - not that I was stalking you, but you're in my class and I um-" he slid into silence, still holding her hand.

Marie extricated it without much difficulty, due to Kareem's sweaty palms. "And now we've finally been introduced." She smiled, somewhat reluctantly, but still politely. "I hope you enjoy the entertainment. It's a blast, but very different from a movie or a video game." There it was again, that slightly overly-formal diction that she sometimes slipped into.

Lake finally found a parking spot for his small, dark blue pickup truck. Like usual, the mall was busy and so Lake had had to drive up and down quite a few rows.
He grabbed the small envelope on the passenger seat before getting out and locking his truck. The envelope had Happy Birthday Marie, scrolled across the front in blotchy black ink. Inside there was a gift card to a nice restaurant, as well as a free tour and ride at his uncle's barn.
Lake doubted Marie would use the tour as from what he had heard, she seemed to be one of those girly girls, who liked nail polish and whatnot. But his uncle had insisted, most likely hoping to get more people around his barn, since they didn't often had many visitors. Lake knew that kids these days would not want to waste their time at a barn with horses, when there was some new technological item out on the market.
As the young man made his way towards the birthday party, remembering the directions from the invitation in his pocket, he wondered why this girl Marie had invited him. He had only been here a few weeks and hadn't really made any friends, just students he saw as classmates.

Simulacrum. Some new invention/game they installed at the mall. Jamie figured she'd go to Marie's party just to check it out. Marie herself wasn't very bad, but Jay hardly knew the girl nor most of the people coming to the event. She wandered into the party with snug jeans and a bomber jacket on, a bored expression on her face. Marie seemed to be busy with a few other people, so Jay found a bench and pulled out her phone.

Aspen's gaze soon rested on Marie, the girl who had invited her. The name hadn't been familiar to her before, but now that she could see her face again, Aspen quickly recalled the memory of bumping into the blonde-headed girl just outside of one of her classes. Aspen hadn't necessarily been apologetic; she had said sorry in a rather curt tone, but after exchanging names and numbers- much to Aspen's surprise- they had parted ways. Now, she searched for someone she recognized. Most of these people were in her classes, but she knew none of them as more than an acquaintance. She sighed rather disdainfully, realizing the grim fact that she was indeed too withdrawn from the social life most teens lived for.
