"Don't think that," Marcel said gently. "If you wouldn't have told him, then perhaps it would have been your mother that would have died instead, and the army may have come anyway." He hated to think that she would blame herself for her father's death, as she had no reason to. It wasn't her fault at all. Though he wished he could say something more that could lighten her mood, or console her, he found himself for once at a loss for words. It was odd, for he always had something that he could say. But it's just her; I don't get this way with anyone else. Perhaps his presence alone would console her. He hoped it would, anyway.
As she rested her head on his shoulder, he smiled slightly, looking down at her to see that she was simply staring at the water, lost in thought. He enjoyed their closeness, though would never admit it to anyone. She was warm, and smelled nice - like flowers. He smiled slightly as she ruffled his hair, seeing the brightness returning to her eyes, replacing the depression that had worried him so much. "Well I do hope so. But Allegra, even if I look different, I'm still the same pirate you've always known." He was glad to have grown up, and gotten taller and everything, but he still liked to think that inside he was a pirate at heart. Always was, always would be. And furthermore, he would always be there for her, even if he had been absent the last few years from her life. As she rested her hand on his face, he felt his heart-rate excel slightly, and his suspicion that she was feeling the same way grew.
He watched, perplexed, as a fog appeared in front of them, showing the two of them hugging. It made him smile as he saw how red her cheeks were turning, and he knew that she hadn't wanted that to happen. Her magic, it seemed, got away from her at times. He laughed as she mumbled a few incoherent words into his shoulder, and reached down to ruffle her hair. "Don't feel embarrassed," he said lightly, his tone full of amusement. "I'm always here to give you a real hug, if you want," he offered, eyes twinkling as he waited for her to react to his joke.
