Kaycee did her best to brush off the comments Gina made. She knew that Gina was joking and wouldn't actually say that about her... But still, it bothered Kaycee, perhaps because of the unexpected sass or the fact that she could practically hear the coffee barista laughing in her ears. "I didn't invite you to go on and on about some stupid guy, you know," she muttered under her breath letting Gina just barely hear what Kaycee said. Her friend rolled her eyes without giving an answer back. " why don't we go somewhere else?" gina said after the moment of silence between them. "somewhere different than this place. it smells awful," Gina's nose scrunched in an unflattering way and Kaycee nodded in agreement. " sure. but somewhere quick, i only have a little while." kaycee gestured to the book bag that was hanging from her shoulder. she watched as gina thought about it and then suggested the nearby children's playground. kaycee raised an eyebrow in question. "i'm pretty sure that's for ages like, ten and under. besides, it's pretty run down." the brunette pointed out. "well i'm ten anyways," gina joked and got up from the table. the two friends departed the coffee shop and made their way down to the plastic children's playground a few blocks away. "i'm impressed. it's not nearly as bad as i remember, they must have fixed it up." kaycee said as she admired it, standing on the mulch. "or it wasn't as bad as you remember. race you to the monkey bars!" gina sprinted to the monkey bars and immediately lept up to swing from the blue bars. kaycee ran after, not nearly as fast.

Jack kept chatting with Vincent about things that went on around town , that usually wouldn't matter in the long run . but he enjoyed it anyways . Vincent went quiet for a moment , then he whipped his head around to Jack , a glint in his eye like he does when he finally gets an idea , " hey we should practice football at the park . i need to touch up on my accuracy at throwing . at least that's what coach said . " Jack snorted at the jock's idea of a fun time , though he wasn't surprised since Vincent was the best football star in town . Jack wasn't much of a football guy , as he liked sports that required more thought and process with tricks , strategies , and tactics . such as soccer and basketball . his friend was staring at him waiting for a response . Jack took the bait ,
" oh alright . i'll meet you there . go get your stupid ball . " , he waved him away , a slight smirk present . Vincent nodded , a grin on his face as he excitedly ran towards his house in the opposite direction , like a big hyperactive puppy . Jack shook his head , then continued walking to the park .
he strolled through the entrance , not noticing the two brunettes on the sun faded , beat up , colored plastic playground not too far from across the field . out of the corner of his eye , they just passed as normal kids , which Jack usually ignored with ease . he jogged to the metal post where the touchdowns were made , and slouched against it , his back to the playground . a small breeze drifted along , the dark green football field's grass soft under his feet . it's white lines had been recently painted over again . they usually kept the field nicer than the playground . he was actually surprised that there weren't any kids running around on the field when he came . he pulled out his phone to check the time , then his text messages . still no answer from Jake , Michael was out doing something with his family , and of course Vincent rarely had his phone on him , and was running around town . Jack furrowed his brow a bit , concerned for Jake , as he usually responded rather quickly . it was quite odd that he hadn't gotten a text from him in days . their last conversation was just them passing a greeting . realizing how long it's been since he spoke with his old friend , he texted , " hey is everything okay ? " , and slipped it back in his pocket , sighing and preparing for his stocky blonde friend to come racing around the corner .

Kaycee and Gina swung around on the little playground, rushing down slides , climbing up spider-webs and swinging. surprisingly, kaycee had more fun than she thought she could have at a place like that. gina made it a lot more competitive, making everything a race, so by the time Kaycee announced that she had to go, she was sweating. "alright. see ya later, then." Gina broke off from Kaycee to go do who knows what, and Kaycee walked down the sidewalk back into the main part of town. she had left ten minutes to spare in order to race down to the library. The brunette speed walked down the side of the street, continuously checking the time on her watch. kaycee had discovered that even if she were literally only a minute late, the mother of this child would go nuts and start lecturing her about responsibility. of course, it was easy to tune her out, but the lady got on kaycee's nerves. like everyone did. nonetheless, it wasn't good to be late to something anyways. kaycee found herself a few blocks away from the library, and saw no sign of a crazy mother. however, kaycee usually didn't see them here anyways. she knew that she would recognize the mom because the mom had dyed her short hair blue. kaycee suspected it was something to do with keeping in touch with kids these days. however, kaycee almost wished she could pull off something like that. KC turned a corner and saw the library just ahead, casually checking the heads of people ahead of her. there was no blue in the sea of blondes, browns and everything in between, excluding blues.

a few minutes later , Vincent came bolting around the corner , clearly over joyed . man was he pumped about football . Jack got up from his slouching , and stood up straight , expecting Vincent to throw the football at him . there it was sailing in the air , coming down fast in front of Jack . he bolted forward , and even jumped a little when he caught the ball in his arms , wincing at how much power his friend packed into it . he threw it back lightly as they transitioned to the field . Vincent was at the other side , stepping back , and throwing it again . the ball flew a few feet from Jack , on the left side of him . Vincent threw his arms up , a bit frustrated at his own mistake . Jack jogged over and scooped it up , feeling the rugged white laces under his fingertips slip as he thrust his arm forward in a powerful throw . Vincent caught it , and held a thumbs up .
after another hour of passing , tackling , and a few high fives , Jack glanced at the clock , and Vincent headed home . staying in the park a bit longer , he stepped off of the high class field , an onto the old and beat up playground's mulch and wood chips . he went over to the only working swing left , as one had a broken chain , and the other had been thrown over the top , hanging like a used parachute . he extended his legs as he kept swinging , his hands gripping the rusty chain as he glanced up at the sky . it was a palette of many colors of red , yellow , orange , pink , and purple . the clouds formed a wispy look as they curled and floated around perfectly . the sun was indeed setting , and it would be night fall soon . Jack began seeing tiny glowing flickers of warm familiar light , the fireflies dancing around in the cool night . a slight breeze passed through , making him shiver a bit . his muscles were a bit sore from his meaty friend tackling him , and throwing himself on top of him . he rubbed his bicep , certain there would be a purple bruise and a bit of pain to greet him in the morning .

Kaycee let herself into the library , her breaths short and hollow. She had thought she had seen the crazy mother and had instantly made a dash for the door. When Kaycee arrived in the library, the normal table was empty and there was no sign of Blue Hair, to KC's relief. She stood in the lobby of the library and took a moment to slow her nervous heart. No motherly lectures today. The brunette went to the table and immediately began unpacking her items and then heard the door of the library swing open. There walked in the little boy and his mother. The woman looked angry and the boy looked about ready to burst into tears. Kaycee drew her lips into an encouraging smile as the duo walked to Kaycee at the wooden table. The little boy instantly sat down and the woman frowned but refrained from saying any words. She turned on her heels after seeing her son situated and walked out. KC wondereded what had happened, but she didn't pry. The poor little nine year old was very shaken, so KC figured she would have to try and cheer him up a bit. "Before we begin, let's do a fun little game, okay?" Kaycee proceeded to explain their little game as a facial expression one. "When I say lion face, make your face as big and open and fierce as possible, and when I say lemon face, you make your face as small and tight as possible. Got it?" The student had a perplexed look on his face but obliged. She did it with him to encourage him to do it. The two of them sat in the library making the obscure faces until Kaycee announced that they finally had to work. Upon hearing a groan from the boy, she thought that perhaps she had cheered him up at least a little bit.

Jack swung on the swingset until the sun set fully , the moon replacing it's postition high in the sky . it was currently shining brightly down upon the earth , moonlight washing over everything . he inhaled and exhaled deeply as he leaped off of the squeaking swing high in the air , his feet planting firmly on the ground , gravity causing a small sting from the impact . he shoved his hands in his pockets , and smiled at the stars twinkling above , and the soft light from a full moon . he strolled out of the park and onto the sidewalk , his feet barely making a sound . the town was eerily quiet as usual , the streetlight , moonlight , neon lights , and a few fireflies serving as the only light . his shoulder bothered him , as the result of Vincent's impact was already affecting him with soreness . he ignored the pain and shrugged it off as he headed down his familiar route home . he breathed in the cool ocean waves as a breeze rolled softly throughout the town . it was refreshing , and it was one of the things that made this town truly special . gathering his thoughts , he rounded the corner , and began striding mindlessly towards Jake's house . perhaps he was a bit more worried than he thought he was . a bit of nervousness crept over his spine as he came around the street corner onward to his friend's house . a bit of relief washed over him like a tidal wave as he recognized his mother's banged up station wagon parked crookedly in the driveway . Jake and his family were a bit on the poor side , as their house was kinda beat up , same with their clothes and their car . Jack always was a bit sympathetic for them , especially when he first met Jake , which is when Jack felt he had to swing a punch for Jake as he was bullied quite a bit in the past by other kids in the school . he had an older brother that went to college not too long ago , and he always got stuck with his older sibling's previous clothes . he was tempted to knock on the paint chipped door , but it was starting to get late , and he didn't want to upset anyone . both of Jake's parents were sort of distant , and they snapped pretty quick , as they had a short temper . Jack learned this the hard way when he tore up the backyard when him and Jake were messing around as kids . never had he risked doing anything to upset them since then . the family lacked humor , and happiness in general . Jake once in a while would come to school with a black eye , or a couple of bruises . he always said it was just some guy that bullied him , or that he had ran into something . Jack had suspected abuse , but he always set it aside , knowing Jake never liked things being made a big deal . Jack almost said something a couple of weeks ago , but he kept it inside momentarily . Jake had been a great friend over the years and rarely snapped . when he did , man was it terrifying . Jake's first impression was laid back and quiet , but he could be loud if he really wanted to . Jack had a solid and true respect for his friend , a pang of guilt hitting him every time he saw his less fortunate friend . deciding to wait to make contact with them until tomorrow , he headed home , swinging open the door and passing a friendly greeting to his parents , a bit of gratefulness passing by his mind . stripping his grass and dirt stained clothes , he threw them in his hamper , and rolled into bed , falling asleep in the matter of seconds , knocked out like a light .

Kaycee rolled her head around her neck to the right, willing it to relax. she had been sore and unbelievably tense and she often had to take on some yoga in order to loosen up her muscles. KC listened to the soft music coming from her stereo and concentrated on hearing the soft voice of the yoga instructor barely overpowering the music. kaycee adjusted her cross legged position to a push-up position. the soft sun crept through her windows of the early dawn. kc turned to look at the clock on her bedside table. it read five am. alaska inhaled , exhaled, relaxed for the next half hour until she turned the yoga track off and crawled into bed for a few extra hours of sleep. it would help her later on and was a good end to an hour of yoga. when kaycee awoke later that morning, the clock read nine oh-seven. she yawned and stretched, then proceeded to do all her morning chores. showering, dressing, the works. kaycee meandered down to the kitchen in a pair of shorts and a pale blue tank top, with her dark hair in a messy bun. kc didn't have anyone to tutor today, and she had decided to apply some makeup on her free day. kaycee milled around the kitchen making herself breakfast. she sat down with an egg and some bacon, scarfing it down with an accompanying glass of milk. the brunette finished and out pf habit, went down to the coffee shop to order some coffee. she made a mental decision to not order the black coffee as the ordeal from yesterday proved that black coffee was not her thing. kaycee strolled down the sidewalk and into the shop, jumping into the line which was short, to her surprise. her eyes trained forward, looking for the grumpy coffee barista she knew so well. the brunette made her way to the front of the line and let her eyes linger on the menu, looking for a new item to get accustomed to. "i'll have a hazelnut iced coffee," she decided afted a moment of silence. she adjusted her stance, feeling ready to counter his annoying glares.

Jack awoke again by the annoying alarm clock sitting on his nightstand along with coke cans and a couple candy wrappers . tossing the covers away in slight frustration , he dragged himself to his bathroom and took a quick shower , brushing his teeth , and fixing his hair as well . once he ate a muffin from the kitchen counter , and chugged a glass of milk , he headed out the front door , locking it behind him . he headed to work , rather at a normal pace , even though by the time he arrived , he would be a little late for his shift . Jack sighed as he exited his neighborhood , and onto the busy street . cars were buzzing around , and different sorts of people were walking , some running , along the streets , going about their daily business . a man in a freshly ironed suit , dark slicked back hair , and a pair of shades shoved past Jack , briefcase in hand , phone to the ear , chatting away at someone on the other line , ignoring him completely as he rammed his shoulder into Jack's sore one . he growled at the stuck up businessman , a scowl on his face as he jogged across the street to the cafe . it was one of the busier days , and there was definitely a low tolerance for employees for being even the slightest bit late . he already was shimmying his jacket from his broad shoulders along his arms as he pushed his body against the kitchen door . the girl that had the shift before him was piping hot , and said she had her cousin's play to get to . Jack shrugged it off , clearly not in the mood to make a smart remark . he threw on the apron , and made his way to the cash register in one fell swoop . every seat in the seating area was filled , and the place was filled from wall to wall with loud chatter , and the clinking of coffee cups . he quickly cleared the previous order , and flashed a scowl at the next customer , whoever it may be . he wrinkled his perfect nose in disgust as he recognized the snappy brunette . his dark green eyes hardened , as she told him her order . he shot the order at Eddie hastily , and turned his head to the cash register , completing her order . his eyes moved from the cash register , and to meet her brown ones , making a low comment , " no black coffee huh ? " he recalled her fit yesterday with the dark stain on her shirt , with her good looking friend checking him out . he snorted , still amused from her misfortune as a smirk crept along his face . he printed the receipt , and tore it with a swift motion , sliding it to her across the counter , along with her cold drink . he flashed a fake smile , " have a nice day . "

Kaycee scowled and crossed her arms, slamming yet again another twenty dollar bill on the counter. he had probably seen her temper tantrum, which fueled her anger even more."You make me really want to punch your pretty face," she said through her own fake smile, getting fed up with his snarky attitude. for some reason, for the past two days now, this kid thought he could smack talk her, act like he was better than her and get away with it. she had been able to tolerate it for some time, but not anymore. kc was not known for having a very good temper , anyways. two days may seem like a short time for some people, but for kaycee, it was an eternity to let someone treat her like crap. kaycee wondered how this coffee server would react to her own snarky comment. he had never heard her say much directly to him and so kaycee was eager to get into a fight with someone new. new meat who had just happened to get on kaycee's nerves too often. she looked over her shoulder to see if there was a huge line sprawling out behind her. there was only a few people, five tops, but kaycee stepped out of the line as she took her drink. her dirty smile remained on her face and she kept her eyes on the boy as the orders came and went. kaycee was able to observe that he acted grumpy with everyone, never once flashing any of them a kind smile. his eyes were always angry and annoyed, and always seemed to shade happiness. jeez, this kid needed to get over himself.

Jack deposited the twenty , a brow raised in bubbling sensation to work her up made it's way to his mouth , " i'm sure you do , but you just might break a nail . thanks for the compliment though sweetheart . " putting her off to the side , he served the next line of customers with a blank expression upon his face . as he put away the last customer's payment , he glanced up at her , realizing that she was taking a standing position , " if you're waiting for me to come over there , it'll be a while . i got another hour left . " he flashed her a fake smile again , and took the order of the next person that walked in . Eddie stood still next to him , practically drooling all over the counter while staring at the brunette like a zombie . Jack smacked the back of his head to snap him out of the stupid trance . " get a hold of yourself . we got a customer waiting . whip up a large caramel frap and try not to knock over anything . " Eddie rubbed the back of his head , and cowered down , scurrying back to his original spot . the customer was a fairly built , good looking man in his early twenties , sunglasses propped up upon his head and nestled in his mouse colored hair , wearing a white t-shirt complete with life guard swim trunks . his skin was the color of the coffee he was ordering . Jack shot a comment , not phased by the older and more dominant male , " save anyone today ? " the lifeguard rolled his blue eyes , and tapped his foot , whistle bouncing against his chest as he waited for his coffee a bit impatiently . after a minute or so , Eddie had slid the coffee across the counter , and the man was exiting the cafe , his flip flops making a little sound as he walked . Jack snorted at the lifeguard , and began to wipe the counter down from any drippings left from people's coffee . his eyes shot back at the brunette as she was still standing there , coffee clasped in her little hand . wearing a frown , he glanced over at Eddie , who was drooling again . Jack let him drool , knowing a girl like her would never be into a guy like Eddie . really he had never seen a girl that had ever been into Eddie . he was just . . . creepy Eddie . Jack always thought he resembled a starved sewer rat . Eddie wasn't nice to people , but he wasn't mean either , just having a weird and creepy vibe coming from him along with the stench of a slice of moldy cheese baking on a hot slab of concrete . acne dotted his face , and his hair was never fixed . his skin was a pale white , and practically had noodles for arms . once in a while , he would feel a little bad for him , but it would quickly dissolve in the matter of seconds . Lacey , the younger girl that made the pastries came in with a tray of fresh scones , muffins , cookies , cake pops , and more delectable warm sugary treats . she arranged them carefully in the case , then disappeared back behind the curtain . she used to have a crush on Vincent until some other guy asked her out . she was just the average girl , and nothing stood out from her . only that she was the only one in the place who could cook something decent . only a few more customers came and went until the cafe went quiet . Jack frowned as he looked up and the girl was still there .
