"Ashes to Ashes"

[ Alright, this is the last post I can make until Sunday evening. I'm leaving for the vacation to Maryland and I need to finish packing and stuff, so sorry for the short reply. ]

His already rapid heartbeat grew faster as he sprinted forward in his vein attempt to escape the reach of the vile monsters. Both his lungs and his legs ached and his head pounded with a migraine, but he ignored the pain, determined to outrun the things. The only flaw with this plan was that he had absolutely no clue how fast these creatures were, or how strong. For a moment, he considered resting, only for a few seconds to regain his energy but ultimately decided against it, the sound of thudding feet far too heavy to be Ashton's already reaching his ears from behind.

[ ugh, sorry. I was super busy and wasn't even home Sunday & Monday. ]

• He swallowed hard as he heard the solid, heavy thumping of inhuman feet behind them. If he looked back or stopped, he had the gut feeling that it was game over for him, or maybe the both of them is Alexander stopped. Strangely, it reminded him of Orpheus, who had played his harp into the Underworld and had persuaded Hades to give him his love back. He was told to not look back on his way out of the Underworld, but did anyway. His love was then dragged back into the depths of hell.

• After thinking about what he had just done, he threw up anyway. After finishing, he wiped his mouth on his sleeve, the disgusting taste now lying in his mouth. Reece didn't hear anything nearby, so he decided that he was probably just going to stay here for the night.

As Alexander stood, rain pounding down on his weary body and his breathe coming in rapid, quick wheezes, he considered glancing back at Ashton.He of course knew this was a terrible idea, facing Ashton would also mean gazing upon his pursuers, something only a complete idiot would think of doing.

• Ashton shook his head to clear his eyes of the rain. His brother would probably kill the both of them by looking back. So then it would actually be game over. The creatures would get them, tear them to pieces, and leave nothing of who they once were behind. He shivered at the thought, his leg muscles screaming at him to stop running.

• It was a risky idea, but he was tired, and there seemed to be no danger here. He looked around the vast area where he was, and seeing no hiding place, knew he would have to keep moving. Reece sighed but continued on his way, averting his gaze to anything but the human remains on the bloodied ground.

Deciding that simply running wasn't going to be enough, Aexander searched the surrounding areas of swampy, muddied, grass soiled, puddles and water logged trees for some sort of sanctuary or hiding place. A large enough tree might be sufficient hiding ordinarilly, but he doubted the wet wood would prove strong enough to hold back the rampaging beasts from tearing them to shreds. There was a chance it could provide a small amount of hiding from the prying eyes of the monsters, but there was no telling if they had x-ray vision or something equally capable of rendering a hideout idle, and he wasn't willing to take that chance.
