Jonanthan attacked the fish ravenously, aware that Aurora was doing the same beside him. He liked that about her, that she wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty, that she was acted the same around everyone and anyone. He raised an eyebrow when he realised Roland was lying on what used to be attached to Serene's dress; it was a smart idea though, seeing as it would prevent her from dying of heatstroke, and give them some materials that they would surely be able to find a use for later. He took the petticoat part of it, laying it out on the other side of the fire as well; it was thinner than the actual fabric, but it would keep the sand out of his hair.

Glancing across the fire at Aurora, Jonathan saw that she wasn't asleep either; with a small smile, he followed her gaze to the sky, a sense of calm washing over him. He was clean and full, and for a moment he didn't feel like he was stranded on an uninhabited island. He could almost imagine that the captain had said something like, "Take a break here, lads! You deserve it, and we'll be back for you in a week. Have fun!" The thought brought a laugh to the surface, although the thought of the kind, dutiful captain sobered him too. Eventually, the stars above him blurred and he too fell asleep.

Serene blinked awake in the dead of the night, momentarily disoriented. She sat up quietly, running a hand through her sandy hair and looking around. After a few minutes, her eyes adjusted to the faint light of the moon and the stars, and she realised that the others were back. A waterskin lay in the sand beside the dying embers of the fire, and she drank what was left thirstily, figuring that they could get more the next morning. There was a rather funny smell in the air, but she didn't notice the dead tapir lying nearby in the dark. Shrugging it off, she lay back down, curling up slightly as she fell asleep again.

The next morning, Roland felt slightly stiff. He sat up, still aware of Serene laying across his bare chest. He gently lowered her onto the sand and looked around. It was going to be a great day, the sky was already bright blue and the sun hadn't yet come over the trees. He got to his knees and looked around for that tapir, since he was the first one awake he may as well make a start on those waterskins. He lifted the full weight of the tapir down from the tree, it was a big male and would probably provide meat for a few days. He found the piece of flint in his pocket and began tearing at the skin of the tapir, but gently enough so it didn't bleed.

A few minutes later, he noticed Aurora stirring and smiled as his friend stood up. But he soon went back to his skin making. After he had pulled all the skin away from the meat, he lifted the flesh and put it back up on the tree and set to work cutting the hyde into equal sectors. He discovered a thin vine wrapped around the trunk of their food tree, and pulled it off. After making tiny holes around the skin, he joined the sides together using the vine. Once satisfied, he gave a brief nod.

Aurora stirred from amongst the crusty skirts. Her skin felt slightly rough from a night inside the harsh sandy material. She looked around before getting to her feet. Roland was the first up as always, and she saw him making use of her tapir. She still couldn't believe she'd actually caught it, but she had and was thankful. She decided to make breakfast, so resting them on the edge of her, well Jonathan's tunic she began cutting up the berries using a small stone. She needed a bowl, but had to settle for a harmless looking leaf.

She spread the food out neatly, wanting to make Serene feel as welcomed and homely as possible. Splitting the remaining water between them into Roland's new waterskins, she sat down and awaited the others wakening. She didn't want to rush them, but it may be a while before they woke up. Aurora liked to constantly be busy, so she got to her feet and began lighting the fire again, but Roland soon stopped her, so she was forced to sit down and wait for the others. She assumed today was going to be busy, they had to build shelter and collect food, plus build weapons and just explore the island.

Jonanthan awoke soon after Aurora and Roland started skinning the tapir and making breakfast. Being a light sleeper, the smallest noises usually woke him quite easily. He stretched with a yawn, mumbling a bleary-eyed "morning" to his friends. Watching Roland cut up the hide of the tapir, Jonathan reached over to where he had left his waterlogged boots the previous night, reaching inside for the small knife strapped safely inside. He'd had the knife in his boot for a long time, but he never thought he would ever have to use it, much less after a shipwreck.

Walking over to the trees fringing the beach, he collected a few large-sized banana leaves before returning to Roland's side. He began to cut the tough meat up, wrapping them up in little packets in the leaves. "We need a way to make this last though, or it'll go bad in a few days," he said as he worked, "unless we smoke or preserve it." Looking over and seeing that Aurora was about done with the berries and Roland was swiftly threading the hide today, Jonathan suggested, "Aurora, you can bring Roland and Serene to the lake we found so they can wash up and fill the waterskins; I'll stay here and settle the meat." So saying, he reached around Roland to shake the sleeping Serene slightly.

Serene groaned, flipping over to face the other direction with her eyes firmly shut as something started to shake her shoulder. She felt like she had just fallen asleep minutes ago, and they were already waking her up? The person was relentless, though, and finally snapped irritably, "I'm up, I'm up!" She squinted in the pale morning sunlight and sat up, running her hand through her tangled locks. "What did you wake me up for?" she demanded, looking annoyed. Once Jonathan mentioned a bath and more water though, an eager grin crept onto her face.

"I'm up for that!" she announced. Raising an eyebrow at the thing Jonathan was cutting up, she shifted to Aurora's side, peeking over her shoulder at the berries. "Those look pretty good," she said hesitantly, wondering if the girl was almost done. Serene absolutely couldn't wait to wash the grime from her body; she hadn't quite noticed it yesterday with all the excitement, but her skin felt stiff an uncomfortable with a layer of dirt now.

Roland finished the last water skin and sighed, stretching upwards. As Jonathan mentioned about water, his eyes lit up: he needed a good wash and the thought of drinking more made him very excited. He grabbed a few of Aurora's berries and swallowed them down quickly. He watched Jonathan and muttered, "I'll go get some more leaves if you'd like?" he didn't wait for an answer and just wandered over to the trees, flint in hand. He shook the sand out of his hair and grumbled.

When he reached the trees, he cut a few leaves off the branches. He noticed a few monkeys staring at him, but he wasn't one to get bothered. He wandered back to Jonathan and dumped the leaves by the edge of the pile of ash, not waiting to be thanked. He sat next to Serene and smiled weakly at her, brushing back his hair with a hand. He wasn't really used to all this soppy stuff, but he liked it, and loved Serene and wanted her to feel wanted.

As Aurora watched Jonathan wrapping the meat, she cocked her head slightly, watching him with interest. She sighed as he mentioned about going back to the lake, but nodded. And after Serene was woken, she seemed more than keen to feel clean. Plus they'd need more water. So she nodded and said, "Alright, I can do that." she grinned as Serene mentioned about the berries and said, "You can have Some, I checked yesterday that they're not poisonous." she popped one into her mouth and sighed.

She sighed and lay back up the cloth, staring up at the bright blue sky. It was bound to be hot today, which was a shame, because Aurora had never really clicked with heat, her perfect temperature was neutral. But here she didn't have the choice. She got to her feet and ate a few more berries before getting to her feet and lifting her spear from the tree, and wandering down to the sea. She cleaned the tapir blood off it, sighing sadly.

Jonathan nodded as Roland dropped more leaves beside him. "Thanks," he said distractedly, carefully slicing the meat into a good size to fit in the leaf. "You guys can get going, I'll be fine here. Just leave some breakfast for me." He smirked, wiping at his forehead as a bead of swear trickled uncomfortably near his eye. If it was already this humid in the early morning, he dreaded to think what the temperatures would be like nearing noon.

Stopping what he was doing, Jonathan started to bury the ash remnants of the fire under the sand, before beginning to move the meat, carcass and berries nearer to the jungle. "I need the shade," he explained dryly, "before I get fried alive later. Roland, we can go round the island later to look for a good place for a permanent camp. Maybe a nice grove in the jungle." He sniggered at the thought of sitting on a mossy throne, being fanned with leaves and fed grapes.

Serene took a few berries eagerly, popping them into her mouth carefully so none of the juice leaked out. "They're delicious!" she said happily, savoring the sweet, tangy fruit and its juice. She looked over when Roland sat next to her, giving her a charming smile; she couldn't help but stare as he brushed his hair back, looking effortlessly enticing. All of a sudden, it frightened her more than the island did. If this keeps up, I might actually fall for him, then what would happen when we're rescued?

Hurriedly, Serene scrambled to her feet. "Let's get moving," she suggested eagerly, trying to keep her mind of her confusing feelings. "I can't wait to bathe, especially in this heat!" She saw Jonathan shifting the things into the shade and nodded; he definitely had the right idea. Waiting for Aurora to return from the ocean, she shifted her feet in the sand, burying her toes and making them peek out repeatedly.

Roland gave an effortless grin as Jonathan moved into the shade and he joked, "Yum, fried Jonathan." rubbing his bare belly. He nodded as Jonathan spoke about exploring the island, it would be nice to spend some time with his mate. He chuckled at Serene's enthusiasm and called, "Come on Aurora!" he watched the girl come scampering up the beach and grinned at her, watching as she shot into the forest.

He looked at Serene before lifting her onto his back so she was riding him like a horse and he sped after Aurora, laughing as he watched her effortlessly speed through the forest. He made sure to follow her every move, to avoid loosing her from sight. He felt his feet drumming against the earth in an almost rythmic fashion and he found it oddly comforting. As they reached the open, he gasped and ran straight towards the lake.

Aurora ran up the beach as she heard Roland calling and she gave him a wide grin before running into the forest. She effortlessly tracked the path they had seen before, this time she made herself go fast enough so the rocky ground couldn't hurt her poor feet again like they did yesterday. She sighed happily, stopping as they reached the open ground of the lake and she fiddled with her plait, watching after Roland as he charged like an elephant towards the lake, sending the wild life running: there went her chance to catch more food. She missed Roland, they had been dating for a couple of months, but they soon realised they weren't for each other and split up. She sighed and ran after the happy couple.

Jonathan grinned, watching as Roland ran off after Aurora with Serene securely on his back. There was definitely something going on there. With an amused shake of his head, he went back to the what was left of the tapir, flipping the carcass over and starting on the other side after sweeping off most of the sand. It was actually relaxing to do such mindless tasks; the simple cutting and wrapping left him free to daydream about being back on the ship, surrounded by familiar faces.

Eventually, Jonathan stopped when he realised his knife was scraping bone, and looked down at the pile of food packets beside him with satisfaction. They wouldn't go hungry for a few days, at least. He stared back at the bones with a frown, wondering if they could be used in any way, perhaps weapons or just to prop something up. Shrugging, he carried a few to the ocean and dipped them in the seawater, cleaning off the remaining meat and blood, figuring he'd figure out their use later.

Serene gave a shriek of laughter as Roland swept her up on his back and lumbered away. Her arms were loosely clasped around his neck and she buried her face in his back after being whipped by branches a few times. She was amazed at the speed he was going, even with her on his back, and even more surprised at Aurora's similar swiftness through the trees. They were all incredibly fit, Jonathan as well, she realised wonderingly. Perhaps a few weeks of this jungle would train her up as well.

Serene peeked over Roland's shoulder nervously when the branches had ceased tugging at her hair, letting out a gasp of delight when she spotted the clear, sparkling lake. She'd expected Roland to stop and let her down, but he headed for the water unflinchingly, completely ignoring her cries to stop right now! She was half-laughing though, not being able to remember ever having so much fun in her life despite her pretty dresses and jewels.

Roland, whilst laughing hysterically, he didn't stop as they reached the lake and yelled, "Cannonball!" and leapt right into the lake, in mid air he spun Serene around so she was clutching his chest and spun so he would hit the water back first to avoid her getting injured. As he crashed into the water he was laughing hysterically. As he surfaced he grinned, staring at Serene with love in his eyes, Aurora seemed focused on filling the water skins so he gave Serene a quick kiss on the cheek before disappearing under the water. When under he smiled inside, he had finally plucked up the courage to do it, he didn't know what Serene would think of it, but he did fancy her and nothing she did could change that. He loved the way she stuck up for herself and just everything about her..

Aurora sighed sadly as she watched Roland and Serene crash into the water. She couldn't help but feel a bit jealous of them, she had always wanted to love like that. She slowly followed after them, clutching the water gourds close to her like her babies. When she reached the shore, she went straight to filling the several water gourds: she decided not to watch Roland and his 'girlfriend' to avoid leaping in there and yelling at them. But she couldn't stay mad at Serene for long, they had to live together, and she knew another ship wouldn't come anywhere near here for a good few years. Part of her didn't want to be rescued, she wanted to live here forever. Going back to the job of a maid after this would just be full of disappointment.

Jonathan shot a look at the pile of gleaming white bones lying in the sand, with the grinning skull above it, and shuddered a little. It didn't make him lose his appetite, though, and he wolfed down the few berries left on the small leaf. Still hungry, he looked around for Roland's flint and started another small fire, extracting some of the packed meat for cooking. Nothing like delicious meat to start the day, he thought happily, his mouth watering at the delicious scent wafting up from the meat turning slowly over the fire.

There was so much to be done today, with the priorities being setting up camp and shelter; it certainly wouldn't do to catch a cold if it rained and fall sick now. Food and water no longer seemed to be a problem, and Jonathan figured they could actually live here comfortably for quite a while. There was always the matter of clothes, but perhaps Serene could figure that out since she probably knew how to stitch or sew or something.

Serene froze, stunned, when Roland pressed a quick kiss to her cheek all of a sudden. A rosy blush came to her cheeks and she was far from displeased; when Roland surfaced, she gave him a shy, affectionate smile, unsure how to react to the kiss. It made her pleasantly warm and it was overall a situation she didn't object too, but she had no experience with this sort of thing. Watching him from the corner of her eye, she wondered, Do I...love him? It was frightening to think about, and she pushed it to the back of her mind.

Wading over to Aurora, Serene pulled herself onto the bank beside the other girl, hoping she didn't look too flustered. "Hurry up and get clean so we can as well!" she called, her tone light. Grinning at Aurora, she shifted and turned so she was facing the trees instead of the lake. It was kind of awkward hearing the splashing of water directly behind her though, so she got to her feet and dusted the grass off her skirt. "Let's go see those pigs and tapirs you saw yesterday!" she said excitedly to Aurora, eyes bright.

Roland sighed as Serene got out of the water, do he stripped down some was naked and began washing. It felt so good, he hadn't had a proper wash for weeks, his skin felt almost soft by the end of it. As Aurora reacted grumpily to Serene, he rolls his eyes, but then as she said they could go Roland grinned, not that they could see it, but it gave him some time to himself which he had missed not being on the ship. He fell backwards into the water, letting his body drift upwards like a starfish. He flipped over and washed himself properly before splashing about a bit, just giving himself quality time. He was pleased with how Serene acted to the kiss, but it could've been better. He just kept it in mind that this was all new to her...

Aurora Finished filling the water gourds, not looking up as Serene hopped onto,the bank beside her. As Aurora mentioned the pigs and tapir's, she muttered, "You'll have scared them all away with that racket you're making." but she soon felt guilty and smiled jokishly at the girl and said, "Sure, let's go!" she left the water gourds where there were, hoping Roland would have the sense to keep an eye on them. Her brown tunic was proving to be a very good item of clothing, it was comfy and fitted fairly well, but she still felt bad about taking Jonathan's top, she knew he wasn't as comfortable showing off his chest as Roland was. When they reached the top of the cliff, Aurora gestured to the grazing herds down bellow.
