Váli lifted their head to glance at him, eyes scanning his body for any specific features they needed to sketch on to the portrait. It was just going to be a shoulder-and-up portrait; they didn't want to burden him by having him stay the entire day for a full-body portrait. They quickly went back to painting the jawline, making sharp curves and frowning at their work. It's not like it wasn't how they wanted it to be, they just thought that they could do better than that. Well, they couldn't change it now. Váli had finished painting in his skin after about twenty long minutes, and now they started working on the hair, sparing quick glances up at him every few moments to catch the lightening.

Pol shifted, starting to feel uncomfortable. It was a little odd, sitting still while someone looked him up and down. His mind began to wander, and he took in his surrounding. He studied all Váli's paintings, starting at one side of the room and slowly making his way to the other. Pol found himself marveling at her work, not so much at what it encompassed, but more so at how much of herself Váli put into her work. The paintings appeared to be in cronological order, and Pol felt as if he were literally watching Váli's life unfold. He saw the dark bits, the warm, comfortable times, and the gloriously happy moments. Looking back at Váli, he suddenly felt incredibly lucky to be in her space. By letting him see her art, Pol realized that Váli had let him see her life and her heart. He didn't know how to feel. All he could grasp was how personal this was, all of it.

Váli heaved a loud sigh and carded paint-stained fingertips through their hair, not caring about the paint that was likely sticking to their forehead and such now. They held the brush on place and their gaze flickered up to Pol. "You okay there?" they asked as they finished the face. Well, it was just the skin color and the hair. There was still shading and lighting to be done, as well as the color of his eyes. They groaned. "Be glad this isn't a full-body portrait. I'd be throwing things." they chuckled and dipped a smaller brush into the mug of water, cleaning it before moving it to a different color.

Pol chuckled. "Yeah, I'm fine." In fact, Pol was starting to feel tired, and he worried that he might doze off. He quickly glanced around, trying to find something else to study as Váli painted. Nothing caught his attention and his gaze drifted back to Váli. He openly stared at her, knowing she was absorbed in her work.

Váli grumbled as they started shading his nose. They had mixed their lightest red together with white to add light to the tip of Pol's nose, which was rather hard because, for reasons unknown, noses were very difficult for them. They didn't know why, but they were. Also hands. And that was another reason they were thankful that he hadn't requested a specific pose. "'M almost done." they mumbled, holding the thicker paintbrush between their teeth. Strands of hair had fallen into their face through their frustration, but they couldn't care less about that.

Pol nodded absentmindedly. He slipped off his shoes and crossed his legs, still perched on the stool. He tried watching the colors the Váli was using in an attempt to guess what she was painting. Unfortunately, he had a feeling that he wasn't doing very well. Pol wiggled his toes peacefully.

Váli put up the two brushes and grabbed the thinnest brush they owned, dipping it in black paint. They signed the portrait with a large 'V' near the curve of Pol's clavicle and pulled back, frowning as they stared at the painting. With a sigh, they tossed the thin brush into the mug of water and moved to get off the seat. "I completely understand if you don't like it." they mumbled as they started to stretch their arms.

Instantly, Pol jumped up, eager to see the painting. He froze when he caught sight of it. "Wow," he whispered. The boy in the painting looked like him at first, but the more he stared, the more the person appeared different. The painting showed a confident, cheeky, and cute boy. Was that how Váli saw him? "This is incredible!" Pol turned to Váli, his face glowing. "Is this really how I look to you?" He stepped back to her work. "It's amazing, Váli. Thank you for painting me."

They nodded, and then paused, moving paint-stained fingers to the back of their head as they laughed awkwardly. "I-is that bad?" they asked, glancing from the painting to Pol. "I can always re-do it if you want." they offered, scratching at the nape of their neck.

Pol smiled gently, stepping closer to Váli. "No," he said softly. "It's not bad at all." He reached out and took her hands so that they were facing each other. "Seriously. Thank you. You're much better at this than you realize." He reached up and brushed back the stray, paint-stained hair that was still in her face.
